I must witnessing a different world, because what I experience is hostility and cancel culture from many Democrats when sides are revealed . They are in fact, the ones screaming and losing their minds when Trump won, literally having tantrums, crying and screaming.

I prefer the words and context, a calm discussion just happens to help smooth things over. If emotions run wild while getting trying to get a point across, and this applies to sobbing or flubbing words due to stress, then that is an important factor to consider. You can have a calm person just spewing lies or looping/misdirecting the discussion as well. We should consider both sides in either case

This is absolutely on point. I adore my coworkers. Throughout our MANY conversations about anything under the sun, I caught on that they ALL have bought into the ‘Trump is Hitler’ rhetoric. I would nonchalantly change the subject or just purposely not react and move on with my day. I don’t think a single one of them had a clue that I was FIRMLY on the Trump train. Until Wednesday morning. The instant they caught on that I wasn’t devastated and on the verge of hysteria like they were that morning, they started treating me very differently. The nature of our conversations has completely changed. I have never said one word about the election, the candidates, the results, nothing. I treated them as my best work friends for months upon months of this campaigning without them having any idea that I VEHEMENTLY disagreed with them. They can’t do the same.

I’m a black woman in my 40’s who always blindly voted democrat because I am black. I flipped red Jan 1st after doing months of deep dive into our true political and American history. Myself, my 19 year old and my retired veteran baby brother who passed away unexpectedly before the election, were the only ones who flipped Republican. I got a lot of hate from my family but considering our recent loss, they knew not to try me to hard. I haven’t heard from anyone since the election and to be honest, I’m loving the silence. It was her father who was tasked with the excommunication of his daughter by the church congregation. It hurt her so very much. She has never truly recovered. She told me she would have been faithful to the church, but they were unfaithful to her. To your point: I see that politics can be a religion for many.

There are SO many HUGE issues with this administration that it would take a long time to come up with an all inclusive list of how this administration has let this country down. These are not your normal political issues where both sides care about the country and each side just thinks a different way forward is what's best overall. I’m from the UK. My mum and dad voted for opposite parties. They would gently argue about different policies etc at general election time. One of the parties would win a majority and the other accepted the result, and carried on with life. There’s was no animosity or I’ll feeling. This is how a real civilised mature democracy works.

We have a daughter who went nuts that I had a Trump sign … THE LAST TIME! She has not spoken to us (same mom & dad) in two years now… yes, it makes me sad, though I can’t dwell on it. I gave her three times to speak with me AND a counselor that SHE CHOSE. I paid for it , I drove 3 hours to meet up, did this with 3 different counselors that SHE chose, and all three times she just SCREAMED at me for a about 2-5 minutes and RAN out of the room!!! Each counselor said ‘what do you want to do? You have paid for an hour.’ I stayed all 3 times and discussed this issue and every other one I could think of. I was completely honest every time, and walked out with the same suggestions; 1) Let her make her own way 2) She needs serious help 3) The narcissist leanings are strong with her. 4) I can’t ‘fix’ her Sadly she has destroyed relationships with her 3 siblings & 2 spouses as well… and only one sib & his wife are conservative. Obama did a great job with dividing our country, Biden and the Dems finished it off. I have several Dem friends, however they enjoy a good conversation, sadly most Dems are like my daughter…. Scream at the person & run away!
People elected to public office only care about their constituents when they need our votes and contributions. We matter nothing to them. My father and I argued very much over politics. For us, it was the other way around, with him voting Kamala and me voting Trump. He swallowed far too much of the MSM, and not enough independent media. It frustrated me to no end. But he never cut me off. As much as we yelled, that never happened. And when Trump won again, I didn't gloat about it. I didn't rub it in. My dad died in his sleep Sunday morning, and now I have to find a way to live without him, and the arguments, and the frustration. This is rough!

I have two trans daughters and they have both said if I vote for Trump, they will not speak to me again ever. Of course I did though, but I don’t talk politics to them at all. They were both very depressed after the election, but I sold them by telling them in Washington state the Democrats won everything so nothing will change Now they understand everything will be OK. I am 100% for individuals rights to choose what they want to do and how they wanna live as long as they are not hurting others. I disagree. As someone from a red state, this has been the opposite of my experience. Everyone is a trumper, and if you don't jump on the train they won't necessarily cut you off, but they'll treat you like an unhinged lunatic. I've been talked down to, told I'm stupid, that I can't "think critically." I think this depends a lot on geography and what the political climate is in your area. Mob mentality is a real thing.

@tylersays- First, I feel it is important to understand that the vice president is not able to enact any policy on their own. She has never been the president, she wasn't able to sign an executive order or have an agenda of her own. It's the same reason Mike Pence didn't enact any sweeping immigration reform. The vice president does not have the authority to do that. Second, immigrants actually commit crimes at lower rates than US citizens. The data just doesn't support the claim that immigrants are causing increases to crime. I think Trump's mass deportations will hurt American families and negatively impact the economy. Last but not least, I think that Trump lacks the moral character to be president. He has done nothing but promote fear and division. Also, sexual offenders just have no business being president.

I have lots of liberal acquaintances. They spout all the liberal memes. For example, let's ban guns to save kids. When you point out that more kids die on buses than from being shot by an AR15 and that installing seat belts on buses is easier than banning guns, they run away. They always want to know why people need an AR to hunt. When they do listen to guns protecting me from the government, they talk about how a rifle can't stop the military. Point out the military lost a war to goat herders who used rifles, and they get mad. They prize their emotions over logic.

I’ve lived in rural areas my whole life. I’ve honestly lost count of the pro-Trump Republican friends posting for any non-Trump supporter to un-friend them and never speak to them again. Also, if you were black or gay you already couldn’t be their friend. I agree it’s asymmetrical, just the opposite direction. Perhaps it’s different in cities, I wouldn’t know.

He finally came me around after he was homeless living in a car for a year. He came back and apologized so I let him come back. We still don’t agree on everything but at least he’s respectful now.

I’ve lived in rural areas my whole life. I’ve honestly lost count of the pro-Trump Republican friends posting for any non-Trump supporter to un-friend them and never speak to them again. After 2020 and after voicing my concerns about the future of our country with Biden, my step-mom said she didn’t feel safe talking to me (over the phone mind you) and said to cease all communication. It opened my eyes to the fact it appears one side wants to keep communication open and the other is willing to disown their own family based on their choice for President.

I explained to him the best and most neutral I could and then tried to contact my uncle and asked, not challenged him or anything, I only asked him: what policy did he think Trump put in place that ruined the economy and safety of our state and his city in particular - because he lives in one of the most wealthy cities in the US, I live in a tiny rural town. And: do you not think that the current state of the economy and safety in his city was caused by his own city officials? Or at the most, the governor of this state? He said: I don't have time to talk about this. And never answer my email anymore since but continued to post his opinions online and in the family group chat. To today, I haven't heard from him.

This is absolutely on point. I adore my coworkers. Throughout our MANY conversations about anything under the sun, I caught on that they ALL have bought into the ‘Trump is Hitler’ rhetoric. I would nonchalantly change the subject or just purposely not react and move on with my day. I don’t think a single one of them had a clue that I was FIRMLY on the Trump train. Until Wednesday morning. The instant they caught on that I wasn’t devastated and on the verge of hysteria like they were that morning, they started treating me very differently. The nature of our conversations has completely changed. I have never said one word about the election, the candidates, the results, nothing. Myself, my 19 year old and my retired veteran baby brother who passed away unexpectedly before the election, were the only ones who flipped Republican. I got a lot of hate from my family but considering our recent loss, they knew not to try me to hard. I haven’t heard from anyone since the election and to be honest, I’m loving the silence. I have a religious family. when my cousin married outside the church, she was excommunicated. It was her father who was tasked with the excommunication of his daughter by the church congregation. It hurt her so very much. She has never truly recovered.

I’m from the UK. My mum and dad voted for opposite parties. They would gently argue about different policies etc at general election time. One of the parties would win a majority and the other accepted the result, and carried on with life. There’s was no animosity or I’ll feeling. This is how a real civilised mature democracy works.

We have a daughter who went nuts that I had a Trump sign … THE LAST TIME!
She has not spoken to us (same mom & dad) in two years now… yes, it makes me sad, though I can’t dwell on it.
I gave her three times to speak with me AND a counselor that SHE CHOSE.
I paid for it , I drove 3 hours to meet up, did this with 3 different counselors that SHE chose, and all three times she just SCREAMED at me for a about 2-5 minutes and RAN out of the room!!!
Each counselor said ‘what do you want to do? You have paid for an hour.’
I stayed all 3 times and discussed this issue and every other one I could think of.
I was completely honest every time, and walked out with the same suggestions;
1) Let her make her own way
2) She needs serious help
3) The narcissist leanings are strong with her.
4) I can’t ‘fix’ her

She has never been the president, she wasn't able to sign an executive order or have an agenda of her own. It's the same reason Mike Pence didn't enact any sweeping immigration reform. The vice president does not have the authority to do that. Second, immigrants actually commit crimes at lower rates than US citizens. The data just doesn't support the claim that immigrants are causing increases to crime. I think Trump's mass deportations will hurt American families and negatively impact the economy. Last but not least, I think that Trump lacks the moral character to be president. He has done nothing but promote fear and division. Also, sexual offenders just have no business being president.

When you point out that more kids die on buses than from being shot by an AR15 and that installing seat belts on buses is easier than banning guns, they run away. They always want to know why people need an AR to hunt. When they do listen to guns protecting me from the government, they talk about how a rifle can't stop the military. Point out the military lost a war to goat herders who used rifles, and they get mad. They prize their emotions over logic.

I have witnessed this one-way moral superiority, exactly, typically from two camps - artists and those from prestigious schools. Both are either taught or convinced they are changing the world. I’ve lived in rural areas my whole life. I’ve honestly lost count of the pro-Trump Republican friends posting for any non-Trump supporter to un-friend them and never speak to them again. Also, if you were black or gay you already couldn’t be their friend.

After 2020 and after voicing my concerns about the future of our country with Biden, my step-mom said she didn’t feel safe talking to me (over the phone mind you) and said to cease all communication. It opened my eyes to the fact it appears one side wants to keep communication open and the other is willing to disown their own family based on their choice for President.
Your side doesn't know how to communicate because the propaganda destroyed its relevance to reality. That's why no one can have real conversations anymore. If you can't agree on reality, then there is no common ground from the start.

Same with me and my uncle and his family (the 3 of them: uncle, aunt and cousin, uncle is my late mother's younger brother) are the only family I have in the US - I'm an immigrant and just became a US citizen 3 yrs ago. Even before I was able to vote, my uncle was mad at me and the US when Trump became president in 2016. And he spewed all his anger in the family group chat. The families were/are not even in the US. It was my brother who told me about it and asked what's going on. I explained to him the best and most neutral I could and then tried to contact my uncle and asked, not challenged him or anything, I only asked him: what policy did he think Trump put in place that ruined the economy and safety of our state and his city in particular - because he lives in one of the most wealthy cities in the US, I live in a tiny rural town. And: do you not think that the current state of the economy and safety in his city was caused by his own city officials? Or at the most, the governor of this state? He said: I don't have time to talk about this. And never answer my email anymore since but continued to post his opinions online and in the family group chat. To today, I haven't heard from him.
