When you consider the historical facts, the US is to blame for what has transpired in Ukraine. Ukraine should be neutral non-NATO.

Absolutely. The number of young men who lost their lives in this preventable war is grossly underreported. Ukrainian or Russian, all people with parents, children, wives and friends. Nearly a million are dead already, and tens of thousands are injured. Hospitals on both sides are filled with young men, mostly from low-income backgrounds, who have lost one or multiple limbs and are permanently disabled. What is the meaning of this war? What is the goal? What bigger purpose does it serve? Nothing, except bloodshed, creating generational trauma for decades to come, forcing misplacement of millions to flee, etc...

It's pure fantasy. Putin stated his conditions for even starting negotiations on the basis of Istanbul quite clearly. 1. Full Ukrainian withdrawal from the regions that are included in Russian constitution; 2. Recognition and acceptance from Ukraine that these regions are Russian; 3. Acceptance of Ukraine's neutral status. Istanbul also included restrictions on Ukrainian army armaments and a number of personal. Russians categorically rejected any freeze of the conflict Korea-style. These conditions can get only tougher by the time. Even Trump wouldn't be able to accept these conditions explicitly without a coup attempt against him, but he could do it implicitly by cutting Ukraine's sustenance and turning the page.

Put Ukraine on a timeline to become a NATO ally. Say 5 or 10 years. Russia is not "threatened" by NATO in any real sense; it's their rhetorical cudgel to get their way. Russia keeps the gains Obama ceded to them, and Ukraine gets deterrence, arms, and eventual NATO alliance privileges. These states of being already exist, and both are painful to the other side. Both sides will need to give dearly for an armistice.

  • @popmilic6007

The "facts" in this interview are quite short of facts:
Best independent estimates say during October attack Iran managed to hit Israeli Nevatim air base with 20-32 rockets, and Tel Nof base with a few rockets. This is far from ("5 or 6 that hit anything" as mentioned by Victor) Also during the Israeli attack on Iran they managed to hit directly one surface to air battery near Isfahan. Far from "taking the entire air defence system" (not even Israel claimed anything like that).
If this war escalates, it's definitely not going to be short and decisive victory of any side but rather a long and bloody conflict.

Iran is clearly not a real player in that war. They are playing a walk on part pretending to be the villain. I really don’t understand what is going on, my initial thought for the main supplier and enabler for Oct was Turkey. It seems to me that Irans faux attacks have been there to keep them in the frame. What deals are being done behind these scenes…who knows. All I am sure of is there is no way we are bing presented with the reality of the situation.

I'm with Kotkin in that the goal is to restore the sphere of influence of the old soviet union and is additionally fueled by resentment towards the west. Putin's body count is indicative of how far he is willing to go. To think Trump is going to stop Putin through a deal is an absolute joke. He'll just rearm and amass bodies during the four years Trump is president and the war will be even greater than it is now. It wouldn't surprise me if China invaded Taiwan to ensure mutually beneficial distractions.
