Jordan would have stayed if Jackson was the coach. And if Jordan stayed, most of his team would have wanted to stay as well. The blame for the dismantlement falls on management.
The only reason Jordan would have stayed if Jackson were the coach is because Jackson allowed Jordan to do whatever he pleased and Krause wasn't having that therefore Jordan left and it closed the chapter in the 90's Bulls Dyansty
they wouldn't have won another anyways. If they had replays Jazz would have won in two game they made threes before shot clock that they said they didnt
I think it goes to show how much of a 2 man show the bulls really were and how they still managed to dominate with all this drama going on shows how good they were..they were the warriors if the dubs had drama and ego and made mistakes...obviously rodman and grant helped but those teams were a bunch of average guys and had pippen and mj stayed they easily could of won again replacing a steve kerr or a jud buechelr or a bill weenington is pretty easy around mj and pippen ...heck finding a rodman replacement wouldn't have been that hard honestly...or a Longley harper or kucoh fill in....you cant replace a mj pippen duo...with anyone...its like trying to replace shaq and kobe or magic and kareem or curry and Durant d wade and LeBron..McHale and bird ...its just hard
Krause sure didn't seem to mind seeing the main 3 go. "Phil will not be back if we go 82-0." "I can't wait to build a championship team without Michael Jordan." He sure as hell didn't do anything to promote unity with Phil, MJ or Scottie.
damomand Rightfully so. Krause wanted too much credit. There was an incident during Jordan's second year where he sustained an injury. As you know, Jordan wanted to win and to play asap. Jerry didn't want Jordan to play. Michael asked why ? Jerry Krause said: "Because we own you." Krause is white and Jordan is black. Knowing the history between whites and blacks, to use that kind of word "own" is racially insensitive, ignorant and stupid. From that day on, Krause was blacklisted in Jordan's book. You dont have to find a reason to dislike Krause, he just gave you too many reasons to dislike him.
AgentJ2007 wow he really said that? never knew about it. while i don't think that was the singular reason why Jordan didn't like Krause, because there were plenty more, personally that would give me one more reason to dislike someone had they used that phrase towards me.
damomand Of course it's not just that one reason that would make Jordan dislike Krause. That was the one that struck the hardest and the one started it all. This happened very early in Jordan's career and it gave a bad impression to Jordan.
Yeah, that was a HUGE issue. They also failed to mention that Jerry Krause before the 97-98 season that it would be Phil's last year even if they won all 82 games. They are negating A LOT of additional information that help contribute to the demise of the team.
Had all the members of the 1998 Chicago Bull played together for one more season,I believe they would've won their seventh champion ship.Man that would've been exciting!
Malcolm X Lockout 50game schedule 1999season wit little to no training camp due to the collective bargaining Agreement, u right, it woulda been fun to watch the Bulls do what only the Celtics had accomplished in the late 1950s going into the 1960s interms of winning atleast 4straight championships
I don't think so. The cracks of the team was showing in the 1997-1998 season. Pippen was on the decline, Rodman was basically washed, and other teams like the Spurs and Lakers were building a young championship core. Sure MJ would definitely tried his best, but at age 36, the amount of baggage he would have to carry even to his ability was too much. I think the team broke up at the best time because we all wanted to see them go out on a high.
this is bullshit..earlier, they said..Jordan would have stayed, if Phil Jackson would have stayed..and now they blame Jordan, as the no.1 reason..they're running in circles. Jerry Reinsdorf is the one to blame..he should just put is foot down, for the sake of his franchise.
Paul Jason They (Krause , mgmt) sure didn't help by repeatedly saying "Phil will not be back next yr if we go 82-0". He should have begged Phil to stay, thus Jordan and Pippen stay as well.
If Jerry Krause was not one of the most insecure people I have ever read or studied, he would NOT be the most hated man in Chicago sports. No matter his accomplishments, he puts Jim Irsay and Jerry Jones to shame when it comes to saying "look at me look at me look at me and what I DID" Maybe I'm old-school (I'm only in my mid-thirties,) but when my Ma and Pop said "If you're attractive, if you're smart, if you're funny, etc, you don't have to tell anyone. They will know, I took that seriously. Make all the documentaries you want (and they are goood!!); Krause's insecurities and being needy for adulation made it 6 titles instead of 8 or 9. Period. Cars.
On the other hand there might not have been any titles without Krause. He did build two championship rosters around first Jordan and then Jordan and Pippen. Give the guy some credit for crying out loud.
I scrolled down looking for this comment. It is like watching someone else talk. SAS doesn’t know how to talk in front of a camera without yelling but I just watched him talk like a regular person.
Krauss ran Jackson out of town and always talked about how the team would only be kept together as long as they were winning titles. Meanwhile the Spurs have shown how a real front office keeps a team competitive by complementing a core group of aging star players with new talent instead of just scrapping the whole team when they appear to be on a downhill slide and by holding onto their hall of fame coach
The difference though is with the bulls is that Jordan's competitive and egocentric nature would never allow bulls to become spurs. I loved bulls, loved jordan and that team but i think they all had their share of letting the team fall.
they would still be winning today. Plus Shaq & Kobe would have won nothing without Phil Jackson to play referee. And LeFlop would have had to join the Bulls if he wanted to win a championship.
Not blaming Krause "because Krause built the Bulls" is like saying you can't blame a mother for killing her child because she gave birth to it. It's not all of Krause's fault, but he, and he appointee, had the most power to really the troops and keep things thing going. He wanted to build a championship team from scratch so he could say he did it all by himself. He brought everyone in for those 6 championships except Jordan, and that got to his ego.
Comparing an NBA executive to a murderer is one of the wildest things I've ever heard. Jerry Krause was not liked by a lot of people but he was a high-up businessman. It was his job to make decisions that were not popular but successful. What he wasn't was a criminal and he almost certainly never even thought about wanting to kill anybody.
I remembered Reinsdorf making a statement that "Organizations wins championship, not players" and that drove MJ crazy having felt that he never got the fullest respect from Reinsdorf .....or else the Bulls would've gotten a four-peat.
Krause's was insecure and had self-esteem issues. He wanted to be a part of the NBA culture, but he didn't fit in. His people skills were awful. He wanted to proved to everyone that he could see talent where other's could not. He passed on Karl Malone in order to "discover" Charles Oakley. He took Brad Sellers, Will Purdue and Jeff Sanders rather than the obvious choices that the fans and media wanted. He still kicks himself for passing on Shawn Kemp, Tim Hardaway, V Divac and Michael Finley
Actually most reports had Krause already hiring Floyd regardless of what happens in 1998. Floyd was at a wedding with Krause and it was well known that he was gonna be new coach after the seasons end.
This just strengthens the reasons to blame him. They didn't like him, didn't trust him & didn't respect him & it definitely was felt the same way by Krause towards them. A little humility & respect on his part could have kept them together but he wasn't capable of that.
If you're Phil Jackson, even though Jerry Krause gave him his first real NBA job, it's kinda hard to EVER trust a man who intentionally and spitefully doesn't invite you to his daughter's wedding party and then goes OUT OF HIS WAY to tell the media he invited Tim Floyd, his man-crush coach. He went so far as to give pictures to the media! They shit on the greatest player who ever played the game, and now they publicly humiliated one of the 3 best coaches in NBA history. How can you work in a billion dollar business for someone you have ZERO trust in? Cars.
I think they may have been able to win one more in 99. It was a lockout year, but I don't think most people liked fact that he had already had decided Floyd was going be coach regardless of what happened in 98. Most fans wanted Phil to stay and if Phil had stayed Jordan would have probably not retired. Even if Bulls failed in 1999, we would have liked to see if they could do it again.I agree he was the one who built the Bulls and deserves credit. At the same time he did alienate a lot of people.
Had the Bulls lost the last two years I can see it being time to make changes. However, they were winning championships and still competitive. No one is discrediting Krause ability to bring in the right pieces. They questioned why would he break up a dynasty that proved themselves to be competitors. Effectively it was his ego and small man complex that drove him to try and prove a point that "organizations" wins championships. Ironically I'm willing to bet no one would ever question that statement. However, the players and coaching staff are at the fore front with all the hard work and games played through the years.
Ultimately this all falls on Reinsdorf. He's the owner. Bottom line. He could've stopped all of it. He's an enabler where his loyalty is concerned. John Paxson is still GM and Kenny Williams is still VP of the Pale Hose. Enough said.
Reinsdorf & Krause were obviously to be blamed. They knew from the start that there were two possible things to happen: 1) The coach and players will eat their pride and stay because they are winning titles, 2) Coach and players were gonna give up and walk away. They thought that the second scenario was very less likely to happen. They thought they got the coach and the players necks on the salary cap issues for 2 reasons: 1) Bulls is the only sanctuary for them to win titles they couldn't have whenever they leave to join other teams. 2) 10 Players had their contracts ending in the same period, so they may get terminated if they refuse to accept the salary cap. Turns out that Reinsdorf & Krause were wrong, and Jackson, Jordan, and the majority of the bulls left.
rowejam072000 Hard to say. Today, they have opt out options after a yr or two. He certainly wouldn't have to sign it today or if he did, he would still have flexibility.
Of course he had a choice. He could have signed a shorter contract but he didn't want to gamble on himself because he had back problems that could have ended his career, so he wanted the guaranteed money. He made a choice and he got what he wanted, guaranteed money and life long financial security EVEN THOUGH THE OWNERS TOLD HIM IT WAS A BAD CONTRACT! I have no sympathy for a person signing a contract worth millions of dollars and then bitching year after year that they aren't paid enough. I love Pippen but on this issue I think his bitching was childish and irresponsible.
In recent Last Dance documentary, Pippen himself states that he needed the security of a long term contract. He gambled and lost then blamed everyone else.
Krause should get credit for spotting Pippen, and the trades he made to get him. And also for padding out teams around Jordan. Without Krause’s player acquisitions, Jordan wouldn’t have won 6 championships (probably would’ve won a couple still). However, Krause’s terrible people management from day one meant that he’d created a ticking time bomb. If he’d had the humility to realise how lucky he was to have started with Jordan in the team, to have found the greatest coach of all time, and to have found one of the best defenders of all time, the Bulls could’ve continued into old age. But for the faults of all the actors in this drama, it did result in six championships in eight years, and we got to see, perhaps, the greatest team ever. Despite how it ended, I wouldn’t change a thing if it would risk the greatness of the 90’s Bulls.
I feel like I will always be in the minority when it comes to my views on Krause and on Bulls management. I think he Krause has become a convenient scapegoat (which isn't to say he wasn't flawed and didn't have some role in the break up). The team was old as hell, they couldn't afford to sign all of these players to contracts so they would have had an inferior team in '99. Nonetheless, Phil Jackson was still offered a contract by Reinsdorf in '99 and he declined through his own free will. Krause never should have treated Phil the way he did, but if Phil really wanted to come back he could have since Reinsdorf offered him a contract, and had he come back MJ would have come back. Once MJ retired then of course the front office dismantled the team and tried to rebuild. Phil Jackson had the power to come back and let MJ come back and he declined. It was a really tricky situation for all parties involved and I thin it dissolved for many reasons. It was meant to dissolve. The last moment we have of MJ in a Bulls uniform is also the greatest moment he had in a Bulls uniform. It ended beautifully but it was bound to end at some point and it did. Jackson, Reinsdorf, Krause, Pippen, and MJ all could have behaved more maturely at times but they all have big Ego's which is just the nature of competitive sports. I thank Jerry Krause for helping the Bulls win six championship's way more then I blame him for potentially stopping another from taking place, and regardless of all his flaws may he RIP.
Jerry Krause did Chicago a great service by providing 6 championships for the city, but if he wanted to, he could have just as easily made it 7, that's a truth no one can avoid..
He made decisions but he was not being true to himself that he still wanted to play. It doesn't matter about the staff, the coach or whatever, if he's heart tells him to play then he should play. He can't just walk away from the game that made him and he revolutionized in such an abrupt decision. He's the greatest player of all time. If someone has to stay in the team, that's him.
@Trey Indica Yeah he let that mask slip alright. No wonder Jordan ended up the way he did. If you had to deal with someone like that all the time you'd become even more determined to be independent of their control.
Jordan's hatred toward Krause went back to the 1986 season when Krause limited Jordan's minutes after Jordan came back from a foot injury. How Krause handled that situation irked Jordan because there was the perception that the Bulls were trying to get a high enough draft pick when all Jordan wanted (and rightfully so) was to help lead the Bulls into the playoffs. Jordan saw in Krause was someone who was ready to throw in the towel and that forever changed their relationship for the worse.
How can u not pay Scottie pippen what he wanted when he was the best player after Michael ????? Scottie maybe the best all time one on one defender and a power house!!!!! How can u not blame Krause ?? This video is stupid !!! Smh
Jordan has made most of his money with endorsement deals. Yes Pippen deserved to get payed, he could do anything Jordan could do, score, block shots, steals, etc but Pip didn't have endorsements like Jordan, Jordan shoes, hanes, wheaties, nike, etc. He was all over everything getting the big bucks, Pippen was not, his main income came from whatever his contract was, so I do believe they could have taken care of him better, a lot better. 6 championships, that organization had to be the richest in the 90's. Everyone on the planet was a Bulls or Jordan fan, better believe that organization got their money from anything sold Chicago Bulls.
Corey Kennedy yea that's true but Michael only got paid well his last 3 years 96-98 before that he wasn't making much . endorsements helps him a lot .. But yea sucks for Scottie
That was partly Scottie s fault cuz as said on the doc he wanted security by signing a multiyear contract. He didnt know tv rights would be renegociated the very next year he signed making salaries increase. other reason the bulls wanted Kukoc and wanted to keep some money saved for the salary cap. these r the reasons he was underpaid before and during the 1st 3 peat
He signedthe fucking contract! I can't stand crap like this. If Scottie underachieved would he have given the money back? Only in sports would anyone think of bitching about this.
Wow. I can't believe the front office didn't renegotiate Pippen's 18 million 5 year contract. What a slap on the face to be the 5th highest earning player on your own team, all while being one of the greatest players of all time. Since the owner didn't do shit then this solely smells like Krause's shit.
I can't, either. Pippen was clearly the 2nd-best player on the team and the Bulls don't win any of their 6 titles w/o him. You don't find explosive scorers w/the ability to defend 4 positions out on the street. I still can't believe how underappreciated he is.
marcus813 The Bulls has always been cheap its nothing new. They didn't want to pay Ben Gordon his money and he could go for 50 if he wanted too. It took them a long time to get a contract with Coach Thibodeau. although MJ was loyal to The Bulls but they has always took the cheap route. That's why The Bulls hasn't won a title in 16 freaking years):
they told him not to sign that contract and to wait for a better one, but pippen was impatient and did it anyway. but then, when he wanted a new contract, all the money was already going to other players like rodman, longley, steve kerr, etc. so the gm had no money to pay pippen.
So it was not Jerry Krause fault? He knows about MJ's ginormous ego yet he created tension with MJ knowing the owner would side with him. So what happened after? Where is the genius of Krause? What happened to his Bulls? Phil however went to the Lakers who then turned them from a good team to a great team and added 5 rings to his fingers. So yeah Krause was a genius right? It was Krause's wanting for credit so much that broke up the Bulls. If only he remained in the background supporting the team and not crave for the spotlight too much they would have stayed.
Yep. If the idea didn't give Jerry the proper credit his fragile ego needed then he would eschew the idea altogether. Tex was probably the only one who could tell Jerry not to do that and not seem disloyal. He got teased a lot as a kid I guess due to his not so imposing looks. Not his fault I suppose but a good psychiatrist might have helped.
devilarch u right, except for not putting Dr. Jerry Buss and Jerry West And the Legendary Red Auerbach who were players friendly owner and Gm and coach and Genius businessmen wit no ego interms of who gets the credit into the discussion, the owners sided wit the executive VP, GM verses the player because Management put together teams back in the earlier days, now in the 2010s decade and 2020, the players keep up wit each other free agency and Link up in the off-season and decide what team they together go signed wit, u can credit that to Oscar Robertson and some greats of the 1960s for players having more control and big contracts nowadays
Yes, he helped build the team, He also tore it down when he had enough of what he perceived a lack of credit. But that's the way it often goes in front office.
Not necessarily, if you're a fan of a certain team who has an owner or GM who's very media-ready, very outspoken, comes up with clever, marketable quotes, maxims, who are also perceived as bit of maverick, outlaw types. People like Al Davis, Mark Cuban, Jerry Jones to a certain extent before he started buying into his own created hype, larger-than-life personalities who aren't afraid to speak their minds or buck the accepted or unspoken rules about etiquette, preconceived notions of how sports owners mentality should be or how their going to be different from the herd mentality.
I remember an interview Jordan did pertaining to the Bulls breakup in which the interviewer asked him if they were broke up due to winning too much and Jordan actually agreed somewhat with that. Doesn't really make sense to break up a dynasty due to that reason...
Killer one for me is at 12.00 when Pippen is narrating the fishing tale. Lol @ Micheal said from the back of the bus "Jerry, you can go fish tomorrow, there's a lot of lakes out here. Don't worry about if you don't catch anything, you can always eat the bait!!"
Let's put this as simple like this, who is the Boss of the Bulls?! Well, of course it's the Owner- A person who owns something. So He should always be the first to be More Responsible than anyone
6:30 “...drove a stake into the heart of the bulls?” Is someone a bit desperate to use that sort of language to blame Jackson and defend Krause? The blame is on everyone in some measure, but if it’s one person’s fault, it’s Krause.
Steve yes u right, they all share in the blame, but if go point the finger in the Breakup of the Bulls Dynasty, it's on the overseer, the owner of the Bulls and Whitesox franchise Jerry Reinsorf
He came back in 2001 to get out of his ownership agreement with the Wizards. Players can not own any part of team, it's an NBA rule/bylaw. The only way for him to get out of being the Wizards owner without any penalties was to return as a player.
Who drafted Pippen? Who brought Phil (and Tex Winters and Johny Bach) on the staff and then hired Phil Jackson to be head coach? And no, you can't win with just Jackson, Jordan, and Pippen. They lost in '95 in large part because the didn't have a defensive/rebounding power forward. Grant (who Krause drafted the same year as Pippen) played that crucial role in the first three peat and then Dennis Rodman who Krause got for Will freaking Purdue played that crucial role in the 2nd three peat. Krause did an incredible job with the Bulls and is rightfully in the Hall of Fame.
Ok people. I lived in Chicago all my life. There is no doubt Krause was a huge part of these championships. What outside observers dont understand is he had an ego bigger then Jordans. He used to seek media for attention. He brought the players other then Jordan in here to help win. But he also dismantled this team. He knew he would never get the proper recognition unless he dismantled and started over. Does anyone remember how that turned out?
Blaming anything else but the management for the broke of the Bulls dynasty, is a very comfort attitude. Maybe part of the players and coaching were responsible in some degree, but the main decisions came from above. At the end, nothing last forever.
Case n point...the front office didn't want to get off the money. Krause may have built the team but he wasn't expecting that result. As good as Scottie was, he should have been getting paid like a superstar. Luc Longley, Ron Harper, Dennis Rodman, and Toni Kukoc all made more money then Scottie. All they had to do was fork up the paper. They didn't so that's why it ended.
Jackson and Krause had a lot of bad blood. The two of them AGREED that they had enough of each other, so Jackson left the team because Krause LET him leave.
Personally i think that during the times that he retired, there's always been a burning desire in him to play again because cut his career that fast. I think that's why he came back in 2001. i'm glad he did anyway.
In my opinion Krause rebuilding was shockingly bad. Krause decision to gut the team was crap. He's rebuilding program was terrible and took the Bulls a long time to recover from his decisions. He's genius is a myth. Donnie Walsh however did a masterful job rebuilding Indiana. Traded Dale Davis for Jermaine O'neal. Traded Jalen Rose for Ron Artest and Brad Miller. Let Mark Jackson go. He's only mistake was trading Antonio Davis for Jonathan Bender. Walsh is genius, Krause is not.
interesting they onlky did the Last Dance doc when Krause passed away, like he couldnt defend himself.... we dont really know Krauses version of the story. Remember that.
Krause had built 6 NBA Championships, you can't blame it !!! One mistake, he didn't sign Pippen as his good value.... Jackson was tired by 8 years of coaching, and wanted a break...
Once they started turning on Jerry Krause. Then Jerry turned on them... Never bite the hands that feed you. They were disrespectful and verbally abusive to him.
This goes almost completely against the much-publicized account that early on in the ‘97 - ‘98 campaign Krause had supposedly told Jackson that he was determined to tear down and start over, even if they “went 82 - 0”
Morey, Presti, and R.C. Buford are pretty good. Being a GM is a difficult thing. Also Red made his fair share of mistakes, one was passing on Tony Parker. That was Red's call according to Bill Simmons. With Advanced analytics, it will make the GM job easier to do, as more accurate projections can be made of players. Part of Krause's problem is that he burned bridges. He does work in MLB now.
All these reasons "why you can't blame Jerry for the Bulls demise" are derived from the mistakes and steps that Jerry and the management board took. 1. Scottie was underpayed - Management should try to keep his employees motivation on the highest level - they should have considered paying more to Pip 2. Jerry had some personal issues with Phil - said that he wasn't going to bring him back even if they went 82-0 in the 97-98 season 3. Michael would never leave if Jerry retained Phil as a coach
That's not true, Jordan had hinted he would have loved to comeback if management kept the same nucleus. The two sticking points were Jackson and Pippen, had Krauss and Jackson put aside their differences for one more year, the Pippen issue would have been easier to resolve. Jordan had a great influence on Pippen and would have done his part had management tried to go one more year.
Not only were The Bulls aging, sure, they would have maybe won it in 1999,but Krause, Reinsdorf made bussines with David Stern. The plan - We need a new franchise for The 2000s, we have The Lakers, maybe Celtics so we can revive The dynasties, let The Bulls split, The Nba needs new dynasties, now we have Kobe and Shaq, so lets make that happen Ita all bussines.
100.0% it's all business. I do think the Bulls would have won in 1999 _especially_ given that Chicago's veterans would've benefited from a strike shortened season. THAT SAID, you couldn't be more correct. This was all about business -- the long term business health of the NBA. And the Bulls had already had a perfect send off. It was time to wrap things up and make way for the LakeShow
@@AnHebrewChild plus, they were afraid People would get TIRED of nba because of the Bulls. This was perfectly cymetric, People dont see this, but winning 91,92,93 96,97,98 its perfectly cymetrically, winning that 99 would t have been so cymetric on papper, you have 2x tjree peat, excellent👍
The way MJ has always talked about and treated Krause tells you everything about who MJ really is. Krause definetly deserves alot of credit for this Bulls dynasty and its sad how MJ and Pippen dont give him his deserved credit. He traded for Pippen and put together that first 3 peat squad by drafting and smart trades and of course having the greatest player ever. He told pippen to not sign that contract and got Kukoc who is a very underrated player. He built around MJ perfectly and put up with huge ego's and insults. Winning a title in the NBA is very difficult even with a great player like MJ. The Bulls were so so clutch from Kerr to Paxson and Kukoc and played excellent defense. MJ and his tough leadership,Pippen, great defense and coaching and having a great GM is what made this dynasty so special.
All of us who have rooted for teams like I have for the Bulls over these years want to believe that those teams could just go on and on. I will always give a team with Michael Jordan, Pippen and Jackson a chance to win, especially since MJ would not have taken a break after '98. The inevitable end to the run would have come in '99 or '00 or even '01. We can always want more but at least in my mind the Bulls dynasty ended without leaving a stain of broken down players like the Celtics did.
I've always said It wasn't just Jerry Krause, it was Jerry Krause & Jerry Reinsdorf! Sure MJ's retirement hurt it a lil' bit along w/Phil & Scottie Pippen but to me-The people to put the most blame on-Krause & Reinsdorf!
What they don't tell you is that both Jordan and Pippen played for way less money than they were valued. Jordan only cracked open the bank in his final year with the Bulls. He made more money in that one year than he did in his entire career with the organization. Krause was stingy with the money. And do you know what that led to? It veered off any future players from coming to the Bulls. That and what he did with Pippen which is really to consider him expendable. You can say what you want about Krause. Yes he did build that team; and he did get the right guys on board. But because if his rather shady ways he's left a lasting impact on Chicago to this day. Name one All--Star player that came to Chicago as a free agent and played after '98? Zero. Not counting Wade who was over the hill by then. The Bulls have been cursed as a result of what Krause did. Don't forget that.
No one said Jerry didn't put the teams together. His problem came when he started feeling like he was the sole reason for the chips. He felt that way and his ego got in the was so much, that he told them it didn't matter if they went 82-0. He killed that team and organization. They haven't won anything sense. So now that the guys who did the hard work are gone, and the franchise still remains. Why haven't they won yet?
The answer is management. Krause was done with Phil Jackson, Jordan wouldn't play without Jackson, and if Jordan goes then so does everyone else. The end.
Very true. Maybe more. There were very weak contenders between 1999-2002 especially in the eastern conference. Imagine Shaq & Kobe w/o Phil vs the bulls.
Jerry Reinsorf is the bulls owner and Jerry Krause was the GM, Michael Jordan was drafted in June of 1984 by Gm Rod Thorn and Krause replaced Thorn soon after the Bulls 1st round exit to the bucks in 1985, MJ was underpayed for years by Reinsorf up until his last 2seasons in a bulls uniform in1997 and 1998, MJ and Charles Oakley were great friends who coulda developed together, Krause coulda drafted a center outta college to develop behind veteran Dave Corzine instead of trading a young enforcer in Oakley for a Bill Cartwright who was coming off Multiple knee surgeries and injured in 1985 and 1986 and Cartwright was never the same player again that he was wit the Knicks when he came to the bulls, bulls management offered Pippen a lowball contract that was frontloaded and told him not to sign it and The 2 of them wanted Phil Jackson to coach a transition total rebuild project team after the 1997-1998 season oppose to bringing back the core players of a 2nd 3peat championship dynasty, Krause always wanted the bulls to be led by point/Forward #TheCroatianSensation Toni Kukoc who all bulls fans and I loved, look back at the entire 1993-1994season, u can blame players for the breakup of the bulls 1990s dynasty, but building a stable nondisfunctional foundation starts wit the owner and executive VP, GM, frontoffice executives
and the bulls were struggling early on in 95 season until jordan showed up. the team wasn't a championship team (was fighting for a playoff spot mid way) until jordan returned to the roster.
Whos here after watching The Last Dance
Stfu
Jerry was disrespectful of his players. Phil was more in touch with the players.
Who hired Phil?
Bottom line.
@@elitecoder955the same man who tried to ruin him.
Jordan would have stayed if Jackson was the coach. And if Jordan stayed, most of his team would have wanted to stay as well. The blame for the dismantlement falls on management.
Yeah but either way Jordan could've stayed and the rest of the team would of followed suit.
Forcum: you completely missed the point. Jordan made it clear: NO PHIL-NO JORDAN!
The only reason Jordan would have stayed if Jackson were the coach is because Jackson allowed Jordan to do whatever he pleased and Krause wasn't having that therefore Jordan left and it closed the chapter in the 90's Bulls Dyansty
I still think Pippen would have left.
they wouldn't have won another anyways. If they had replays Jazz would have won in two game they made threes before shot clock that they said they didnt
I wished that dynasty went on forever. Jordan and the Bulls, nothing brought me more joy then watching them in the 90's.
for real..I loved watching the bulls play in the 90s. I also liked collecting trading cards then.
they suck

And 2pac
Krause sure didn't seem to mind seeing the main 3 go. "Phil will not be back if we go 82-0." "I can't wait to build a championship team without Michael Jordan." He sure as hell didn't do anything to promote unity with Phil, MJ or Scottie.
Mick A exactly
And he didn't build the team either.
@@Hinshu85
But he did help build the team together. Didn't you see this video? Go and see it again..
Neither did Reinsdorf.
I'm still blaming Jerry Krause lol
Lol. I second that.
damomand Well, while they haven't reached finals since, they have rebounded quite nicely since Krause's departure.
damomand Rightfully so.
WTF JERRY KRAUSE TELLS JORDAN HE'S THE BULLS PROPERTY AND EVERYONE OVER LOOKS THAT COME ON BRA
You NEVER call a proud Black Man "property" !!! Krause is a clown. Smmfh
Yeah, that was a HUGE issue. They also failed to mention that Jerry Krause before the 97-98 season that it would be Phil's last year even if they won all 82 games. They are negating A LOT of additional information that help contribute to the demise of the team.
Yeah, even if he didn’t intend any racist implications... come on, that’s a terrible thing to say to a black man from the South at that time.
That was so disrespectful.
Had all the members of the 1998 Chicago Bull played together for one more season,I believe they would've won their seventh champion ship.Man that would've been exciting!
donald james For sure, even one year older, the fact that it was just a 50 game regular season would have helped their legs for the playoff run.
+Your Mother Jordan Would've Pwned The Spurs
Especially with the short season coming up for 98-99 Jordan n pippin will have killed everyone lol
I think the team broke up at the best time because we all wanted to see them go out on a high.
btw.. after watching this.. im certain.. this WAS made and PAID for by Krause.. lol.. i mean literally.
Lol
Lol
And destroyed by Krause and Reinsdorf.
this is bullshit..earlier, they said..Jordan would have stayed, if Phil Jackson would have stayed..and now they blame Jordan, as the no.1 reason..they're running in circles.
Period. Cars.
Carson Zickefoose Very wise words.
Carson Zickefoose you speaking facts
On the other hand there might not have been any titles without Krause. He did build two championship rosters around first Jordan and then Jordan and Pippen. Give the guy some credit for crying out loud.
I guess his look, height, width, and volume were the major contributions for his insecurity.
Did Jerry Krause pay for this documentary?
Nice asked....#agreed
Agreed
Agreed too
Agreed..
😂😂 I’m thinking the same shit ... everyone knows Phil jacksonn picked those players ... same type of players he picked with the lakers
20+ years later and I'm watching vids on a 90s NBA team
John Rayne facts
Damn Skip was young is hell. and when SAS wasn't screaming for once.
I scrolled down looking for this comment. It is like watching someone else talk. SAS doesn’t know how to talk in front of a camera without yelling but I just watched him talk like a regular person.
Who's here after watching the first two episodes of the Last Dance on ESPN???
The Chicago Bulls were the 90's greatest basketball team. This isn't an opinion but a fact that can't be refuted.
And water is wet. Who's arguing otherwise?
No shit
Krauss ran Jackson out of town and always talked about how the team would only be kept together as long as they were winning titles. Meanwhile the Spurs have shown how a real front office keeps a team competitive by complementing a core group of aging star players with new talent instead of just scrapping the whole team when they appear to be on a downhill slide and by holding onto their hall of fame coach
The difference though is with the bulls is that Jordan's competitive and egocentric nature would never allow bulls to become spurs. I loved bulls, loved jordan and that team but i think they all had their share of letting the team fall.
farneyb And he sure seemed like he wanted everyone to know it as well. Couldn't wait to get rid of Phil.
Exactly GM's believe in draft for what sa proved experience wins
Had not Jordan's first resignation, Pippen's mistreatment, and Bulls disassembling, They could have won from 1991-1999 or even to 2000 as I believe
That is so true
they would still be winning today. Plus Shaq & Kobe would have won nothing without Phil Jackson to play referee. And LeFlop would have had to join the Bulls if he wanted to win a championship.
If he didn't retire the first time oh boi, 90-00 longest stretch since bill
Not blaming Krause "because Krause built the Bulls" is like saying you can't blame a mother for killing her child because she gave birth to it. It's not all of Krause's fault, but he, and he appointee, had the most power to really the troops and keep things thing going. He wanted to build a championship team from scratch so he could say he did it all by himself. He brought everyone in for those 6 championships except Jordan, and that got to his ego.
He Technically Drafted Jordan
Comparing an NBA executive to a murderer is one of the wildest things I've ever heard. Jerry Krause was not liked by a lot of people but he was a high-up businessman. It was his job to make decisions that were not popular but successful. What he wasn't was a criminal and he almost certainly never even thought about wanting to kill anybody.
I remembered Reinsdorf making a statement that "Organizations wins championship, not players" and that drove MJ crazy having felt that he never got the fullest respect from Reinsdorf .....or else the Bulls would've gotten a four-peat.
Right, I don't get why fans don't blame Reinsdorf for that moronic statement
Jerry Krause deserves some blame but Reinsdorf is the owner
Stephen A sounds different when he not yelling
Another thing. How much did Krause pay ESPN to do this documentary? That I want to know!
It's not a documentary it's a show ESPN used to do. I miss it.
Cars.
I Wonder How Shaquille O'Neal Felt About This Whole Thing
Exactly why they haven’t won shit since then
Now that the doc is out on Jordan these people saying something different now
I think they may have been able to win one more in 99.
Pippen didnt have a choice but to sign that contract. He was well worth more than what he was getting.
rowejam072000
Hard to say. Today, they have opt out options after a yr or two. He certainly wouldn't have to sign it today or if he did, he would still have flexibility.
I didn't know realize someone put a gun to Pippens head.
The Dynasty would it continue if Phil Jackson he wouldn't leave Chicago and to Win a 7th NBA Championship with Jordan and Pippen in 1999
Especially in the strike shortened 99 season. It was theirs for the taking.
Jerry Krause was definitely the reason the Bulls broke up.
13:03 Krause called MJ property so of course MJ didn't like Krause.
The Jerry who should get the blame is Reinsdorf not Krause
stephen a. at the end is classic. made watching that whole thing worth it.
+jesse Campos Scottie Did The Math And Realized That He Was Asking For Way Too Much
He signedthe fucking contract!
+Selymak Jones If Pippen Said "No Thanks I'll Just Wait For A Better Deal That Way I Can Assess My Interest In Signing It"
So it was not Jerry Krause fault?
Apparently, his bigger-than-his-dress-size ego got the best of him.
Anyone here after watching some of The last dance episode
This is a good laugh when your in the bathroom taking a Krause lol
Killer one for me is at 12.00 when Pippen is narrating the fishing tale. Lol @ Micheal said from the back of the bus "Jerry, you can go fish tomorrow, there's a lot of lakes out here. Don't worry about if you don't catch anything, you can always eat the bait!!"
Let's put this as simple like this, who is the Boss of the Bulls?! Well, of course it's the Owner- A person who owns something.
So He should always be the first to be More Responsible than anyone
Echoes of Mars MoonDragon exactly, u damn right in yo philosophy, we been saying what u qouted for going on 22years now
Jerry Krause was a genius and needs his respect
No
What if Jerry wasn't the GM for the bulls?! 😳😲
@@kennyb1997 You can't take rationally to the irrational.
Amen, we all have flaws even the great MJ, but fair is fair. I agree 100%
Good balanced analysis
Since the last dance my notifications is telling me Jerry is a bad guy🤷🏿♂️
how is he a bad guy when he built the team?
I'm with you.
And even though he put the pieces together and Michael left and he was still there the bulls haven’t done shit since then
6:30 “...drove a stake into the heart of the bulls?”
Is someone a bit desperate to use that sort of language to blame Jackson and defend Krause?
The blame is on everyone in some measure, but if it’s one person’s fault, it’s Krause.
Steve yes u right, they all share in the blame, but if go point the finger in the Breakup of the Bulls Dynasty, it's on the overseer, the owner of the Bulls and Whitesox franchise Jerry Reinsorf
He came back in 2001 to get out of his ownership agreement with the Wizards. Players can not own any part of team, it's an NBA rule/bylaw. The only way for him to get out of being the Wizards owner without any penalties was to return as a player.
pippen wasnt immature to ask for that contract. he deserve that contract lol
after5 rings e deserves everything......
He signed the damned contract so imo he had no right to complain about it. If he didn't like the contract, then he shouldn't signed it.
He was immature to sign that initial contract
"Krause should get credit for putting players..."
Once you have Jordan, Pippen and Jackson - three 6th graders gives you a fair shot at a title...
22 years later "still rebuilding"
At the end, nothing last forever.
i missed this show
Case n point...the front office didn't want to get off the money.
Cant imagine that anyone would DESTROY a team like this
in hindsight, their friction and animosity towards each other led them to their successes
I agree with everything you said, but I am a Bulls Fan. You made some great points.
Yea how many championships did the Walsh the genius get
interesting they onlky did the Last Dance doc when Krause passed away, like he couldnt defend himself.... we dont really know Krauses version of the story. Remember that.
Krause had built 6 NBA Championships, you can't blame it !!! One mistake, he didn't sign Pippen as his good value.... Jackson was tired by 8 years of coaching, and wanted a break...
TheDignam Krause sure sounded like he couldn't wait to get rid of Phil. And Phil likely had had enough of Krause as well.
This video leaves a lot out that I’ve seen about Krause, snubbing Scottie and also Jordan early in his career.
1. Scottie was underpayed - Management should try to keep his employees motivation on the highest level - they should have considered paying more to Pip
2. Jerry had some personal issues with Phil - said that he wasn't going to bring him back even if they went 82-0 in the 97-98 season
This is the reason why the last dance docu was made
Not only were The Bulls aging, sure, they would have maybe won it in 1999,but Krause, Reinsdorf made bussines with David Stern.
The plan - We need a new franchise for The 2000s, we have The Lakers, maybe Celtics so we can revive The dynasties, let The Bulls split, The Nba needs new dynasties, now we have Kobe and Shaq, so lets make that happen
Ita all bussines.
Krause is most definitely the reason that the bulls didn’t continue on to see if they could continue on to grab 7 or 9.
Jerry Krause is maybe the greatest front office guy in nba history.
6 years of greatness, ends justify the means.
In all his great picks he was the death of the bulls like a genus on drugs they all overdose
I'm hearing front office want to fire Thibs off the head coach of the Chicago Bulls. We're 3-0 in the playoffs for gods sake.
The answer is management. Krause was done with Phil Jackson, Jordan wouldn't play without Jackson, and if Jordan goes then so does everyone else. The end.
give the man "JK" the applause he deserved. but the problem is he was not able to saw that there were people who is not replaceable.
Very true. Maybe more. There were very weak contenders between 1999-2002 especially in the eastern conference. Imagine Shaq & Kobe w/o Phil vs the bulls.
You go out on top...
Steve Kerr looking extra pasty in that thumbnail.
Jerry krause made a dream team......Jerry krause collapsed a dream team..point blank
Don't forget about Elton Brand and Ron Artest as well.
and the bulls were struggling early on in 95 season until jordan showed up. the team wasn't a championship team (was fighting for a playoff spot mid way) until jordan returned to the roster.
I do blame Jerry Krause.
They need to make a movie on this.
They did. ..I believe it's called the last dance. .the bulls dynasty
@@darrellwilliams2214 No it's a documentary. I mean a real movie with actors.
Doc vs movie. ...I rather the real deal. ..js
