    Today's video is a quick look through all the art materials I use when I sketch outside! I've been asked a few times to film one of these, and I always love knowing what other artists use in their kit. It's always a great source of inspo, and interest. I hope you like the video!

    New subscriber. Thanks for sharing your kit. I love seeing what others use. I often get great ideas. I have the fude pen based on online recommendations and find it a pain to use. I love my reliable Microns.

      Oh gosh same here. People rave about it, and i've always found it cloggy and annoying to use. But I have seen a couple artists that use it well. Thank you for subscribing!

      The sailor fude? Oh I love it but its certainly (imo) not for drawing everything.

    Hi Kate - great video! I love seeing what other artists carry in their travel kits, and this was fun. I'm definitely going to check out those Posca white paint pens; I've been looking for something to use instead of gouache. 😊♥️😻

      I really like them, and they come with different nib sizes. Not as fine as the ballpoints, but they don't dry out as quickly in my experience. Let me know how you find using them if you do!

      @@KateBauerArt Thanks for writing! I ordered the paint pens on Amazon right after watching the video; I'll let you know how I like them. You should consider setting up links to amazon, or wherever items are found, so you can earn some money for your suggestions. Thanks again, and have a blessed day! Donna P.S. I ordered a three pack of various size nibs for only $6.99, which seemed pretty reasonable.

      @@KateBauerArt Hi Kate! I received the Posca Pens from amazon, and they won't work. I shook them thoroughly, and could hear a ball-bearing like thing inside, but all three are absolutely dry. Is there something I need to do that I'm not aware of? They were sealed, but amazon probably sent me old stock. Thanks for any advice. I will be calling them. Still hope to try them!

    Nice sketching kit. Which brand makes the lilac watercolor? And the peacock blue?

    • @KateBauerArt
      @KateBauerArt  Год назад

      Lilac is Holbein, and I think the peacock blue is Mijello Mission Gold. I rarely ,if ever use it. But i love the colour

    Hey! Thanks for sharing your art supplies! I have the bigger etchr bag and to be honest I find it pretty bulky and way too heavy to carry around. The inner organization feels like an overkill. I am curious what is your opinion on the etchr slate and does it worth the money?

    • @KateBauerArt
      @KateBauerArt  3 года назад +1

      Hi, thank you!! i've been using it almost 4yrs. It's still held up. I really like it, it's great quality, and back when I bought it there was nothing else out there like it. My favourite thing about it, is the hard backing so you can use it as a surface to sketch on, instead of balancing everything on your lap when outdoors. The one thing I do wish it had, was that the larger pocket (when you open up the flap at the front) extended out a bit more in case i'm carrying more. But that's just a personal preference, as I know they were going for a sleeker look - which i love. I did contemplate buying the bigger one at the start, but it seemed like it would be too much for my style of outdoor sketching. I would say, if you sketch outdoors often, and and would love a surface to lean on that doubles as a bag, it's worth it. Hope this helps!

    I've just realized that these folding thumb palettes don't work as well for lefties. Grrrr.

    • @KateBauerArt
      @KateBauerArt  2 года назад

      Oh no. I always thought it would be the same! Is it because of how the wells are situated?

    • @marionsutcliffe1119
      @marionsutcliffe1119 2 года назад

      @@KateBauerArt It's because the wells are slanted to align with a brush held in the right hand. For lefties, the brush will stab in over the deep end wall.

    • @KateBauerArt
      @KateBauerArt  2 года назад

      @@marionsutcliffe1119 Hmmm. I've never given this any thought before, so I found 2 palette's I use to try it out, I hold my palette in my left hand, and brush in my right. But with mine, the wells are angled to align with the brush in LEFT hand, which is opposite to your issue. I've never noticed this before, but I think because most of the time I fill the wells up with lots of paint, so that I've never realized, and never hand to stab my brush to the deep side of the well.

    • @marionsutcliffe1119
      @marionsutcliffe1119 2 года назад

      @@KateBauerArt It depends how you place your thumb in the hole. Ideally the palette is supported your forearm (i.e. the hole is further away from you). But you could also have the hole closer to you and the palette extending out past your hand (unsupported, so more tiring for your hand). Links to true lefty palettes would be awesome!

    • @KateBauerArt
      @KateBauerArt  2 года назад

      @@marionsutcliffe1119 Ah, that explains it. I rarely have it rested on my forearm. I usually hold it in the hand tiring way (lol), or have it rested on a surface or sketchbook if possible. I'll definitely keep a look out if I come across a decent palette for lefties, but since I'm right handed, not sure if it will come my way! I do think that filling the wells to a decent amount can counter the issue to some degree. Hopefully this comment thread may be of help to other lefties in the future
