    Loved catching glimpses of Singapore as you boarded around. Looks like you will never run out of interesting buildings to choose from.

    Here is another thing that I suggest for all those who want improve their urban sketching life and I personally can't do without.
    Do yourself the favor to buy a pair of sunglasses with polarized lenses. Don't be stingy on this matter and buy the best you can afford and ask for those with UV filters as well. These type of lenses don't change the environment colours, they are not either particularly dark, but they eliminate all the glares of sun light and protect your eyes from all sort of radiation and particularly UV light that in the long run can cause cataract. They also block the glare of the paper when you are sketching under the sun and help you sketch easier.
    I bought mine out of curiosity after the suggestion of an optician and I can't live now without this type of glasses. I even wear them when I have to work for several hours in front of a pc screen because they cut off blue light as well.

    Loved the update! Singapore is so beautiful and clean!!! You have always inspired me to travel light! My art kit is now down to the bare essentials tools as well. The Micro Portable Painter is a game changer for me. I own 2. One with six colors DS starter set. And one with 14 smaller pans for my floral/ nature painting. I found synthetic Prinston Aqua portable paintbrushes through watching The Mind of Watercolor. Omg these are so good!!! I bought the set and like them better than my natural brushes.

    You have pared down further than I have but there are times that I leave home for an extended period of time and find I need different supplies. Such is life. My portable chair has a zippered bad beneath the seat. This became an extra storage compartment for things like raincoats or sweaters, perhaps an extra sketch or watercolor book/pad. Also handy for carrying extra water. Been watching you for several years now and I still learn from and enjoy what you present. As a plus, I get to see places I probably will never get a chance to see otherwise.

    Great info as always! I especially appreciate that you advised to buy the sketchbooks with good watercolor paper! They are more expensive, but they are so worth it!! I love my micro portable painter box!🤩 Thank you!

    I have never seen a waterbottle like that! I wonder how it would fare as a surface for mixing paint on.

      The water will not puddle well, and if the surface is not completely flat, water will flow off

    What size sketchbooks do you like? Do you vary the size depending on where you go? What size is this one?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  10 месяцев назад +2

      I usually use A5 size. It's a compact portable size that's easy to bring around. And doesn't take too much time to fill.
      I've tried A4 and that's too big, but it's great for drawing lots of details which is not possible with smaller sketchbooks.
      The sketchbook in the video is A5 size

    Any idea where is the best place to get arches sketchbook like the one you have locally in Singapore? Most of the ones I see are from Etsy only.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  Год назад +2

      That is custom made. Arches does not make hardbound sketchbooks. I've seen spiral bound ones but even those are rare.

    Hi Teoh, sorry a bit late in viewing this video of yours. Could you kindly recommend a watercolor sensitive journal binding service here in SG? Thanks.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 месяцев назад

      It is very expensive to get such binding services. Below are the prices SPD quoted me in 2018
      S$36 for
      1. Hard cover casing
      2. Buckram book material
      3. Cutting and stitch binding the papers (by signatures so that the book opens flat)
      4. Hotstamping of cover titles in gold or silver foil (up to 150 text characters).
      The book binding quality is excellent though. However, you have to factor in the money you spent for watercolour paper. So each sketchbook (A5) can be S$60+ if I remember correctly.
      I custom made my sketchbooks years ago because there were limited variety of watercolour sketchbooks with 100% cotton content. Now there are many options so do compare prices

      @@teohyc Hey thanks much for the info and advice. Looks like I could make do with a few sheets of w/color paper (cut to fit) and slip them into my pocket/passport travel Midori cover. Hope it works. Ha

    I feel like technology has reached a point where we should have digital sketchpads for ~$50 or less, but the industry leaves gaps and flaws in the market on purpose to drive sales.
    Sorry, it's just something I've been thinking about. I'm more of a traditional artis, but I've been learning digital for years and the practical entry points are expensive. $200 for the cheapest tablets that allow you to draw , but come with so many things you don't need. One day I should pay someone to make an OS just for art
