Only 14 years after ww2. Amazes me. Some of my teachers and people in my neighborhood went to war. And I never knew. They never talked about it.

I was 6yrs old when this came out, and remember watching it on B&W TV in the early 1960s in London, Ontario. I too was curious about the triple-prop aircraft used, and found it was the de Havilland Australia DHA-3 Drover.

I'm a bit disappointed to learn that it wasn't made in Australia but anyway it seemed to depict life there fairly well. Being school age myself, it was particularly fascinating seeing ranch kids 'attending school' via short wave radio (wireless).

Had a Xmas present of the flying doctor annual book in Australia but had never seen the show.
    Wikipedia says in part :
The series was filmed at Elstree studios in London with location work done in Australia.
Not sure if it found an audience in Australia though. Perhaps too expensive or not authenticate enough.
More recent Australian made series have been much more successful in Australia like RFDS and The Flying Doctors.

I'm pretty sure there was a radio series of the same name back in the 50's

De Havilland Drover DH3 developed from the de Havilland dove.

Australia did change over to dollars and cents until 1966

They changed to their own version of dollars, not same as US

Why do they speak in USA accents?

Only some of them do. They, like the Flying Doctor, would be transplanted Americans.
