whenever my dad (a pittsburgh native) goes back for work, he always brings me smiley cookies when he gets home :) he even surprised me with the pittsburgh dad ones when they were out! truly the best. i'm glad i can still enjoy my pittsburgh culture as a Maryland gal.
Whenever we ate out at the end of the meal my dad would always take a wad of napkins, stuff it in his water glass to clean the ketchup off our faces.

As a Penn Hills kid in the 60's going to Eat 'N Park was a treat. Their strawberry pie is the best.

I grew up in the 'burgh and didn't speak the native tongue like Pittsburgh dad but I think it is hysterical! We all can relate to some of the quirky sayings and traditions! Please keep us laughing in NC!

Here in western Pennsylvania, Eat n Park is basically what Shoney's is down in the Southern United States. Think about it, both of them started out as Big Boy franchisees, they both have a breakfast buffet and salad bar, and the food offerings are very similar. The only major difference is that Eat n Park makes Smiley Cookies and uses that as their mascot, while Shoney's uses a bear as their mascot but doesn't have any food offerings named after him.

Oh my gosh! You do the straw thingy too! I call it turning into a caterpillar. My mom used to do the same thing for me when I was little, so now I do it for my little sister. It's our tradition whenever we eat at any restaurant.
I don't know why I just found out about this today! I caught this as something someone else posted and I just died laughing. I swear to God my dad has said some of the same things while dining at Eat n Park. I relocated to Cincinnati 7 years ago (yeah I take a ton of crap for my Black and Gold) and every time I visit home I have to go to Eat n Park with my family. I just cannot express how great it was to laugh at this, great job guys! Love it I can't wait to see what you do next!

I've asked that same question, for years. My friends and I used to go to the one in Sewickley and have gravy fries and iced tea. Now, I get the hot turkey sandwich. Love the sour dough bread. Wish there was one in Detroit!

The answer to this Pittsburgh mystery is actually quite ordinary. They were originally a diner/drive-in restaurant, "Park 'N Eat" would be a natural name,However MANY other drive-ins used this term, even if NOT as a name it was in general use as a slogan, So copyright/trademark of "park and eat" or even "Park 'N Eat" was out of the question. SO....Reverse it! BOOM, Trademark! PS: When I was a kid there was an "Eat 'N Park" in the "Eden Park" neighborhood of McKeesport,PA, along with the Downtown McKeesport one. It was funny to ask if one was meeting at the "McKeesport" (Downtown) or the "Eden Park Eat 'N Park"

I used to HATE Eat 'n Park... when I lived and grew up in Pittsburgh. Since I moved away, I want to go there whenever I'm home visiting. It has a familiar, Pittsburgh charm to it. I've made peace with Eat 'n Park, I suppose. :-)

Love Eat n Park it’s good place for any family and real good place for after Sunday mass at church cuz it’s a old go to place for my family to eat out at plus the super burgers look just like a Big Mac at McDonald’s just only difference is Eat n park put a Pickle Chip on top the bun and no Mac sauce! But the buffet is great at breakfast lunch and dinner

In Squirrel Hill, it's TECHNICALLY faster to EAT than PARK....You might have to park in Greenfield or Hazelwood and take a bus. But "Bus'n Eat" don't sound as good.....😜

I can't in any way prove this LEGALLY, but, It seems (to me) that the "Big Mac" is a knock off of the "Super Burger". The "inventor" of the "Big Mac" was from the Pittsburgh area! It doesn't really matter.... a "Super Burger" from Eat' n Park is 3x better tastewise.

The "Frownie Brownie" was a crude attempt by "competing" North Versailles based "King's" family restaurant against Eat 'N Park's Smiley cookie. Don't really see "King's" advertised today. They were never as "big" as Eat 'n Park.

They mean "trademarked", but yeah, same reason as Krispy Kreme: it's wrong, but it's DISTINCTIVELY wrong.

My hubby and worked at the Eat N Park together in New Ken in 1972 and been together ever since. Eat N Park obviously has a special meaning to me. I made plenty of those strawberry pies. Great memories. Thanks...
