@@james739123 so the genus which is Allosaurus the species being Maximus and the actual allosaurus being Allosaurus Fragilis etc.? The names usually go Genus then species, so is that what your saying or am I getting confused?
Allosaurs and Carcharodontosaurs didn't have weak bite forces but in fact average bite force ranges. The Study : 'Biomechanics of juvenile tyrannosaurid mandibles and their implications for bite force: Evolutionary biology' show that Allosaurus and its relatives (close and distant) had a bite force which did hit around 40% of their body weight, this is like an average range for most theropods. Its only really weak compared to specially adapted chompers like Tyrannosaurs who pretty much went all in for a bite and their bites alongside certain abelisaurids were exceptionally powerful among theropods. Felt like this misconception needed to be cleared.
They are meant for different things The Tyrannosaurus bite is meant for crushing bone, and and the Charcharadontasauridae bite forces are meant for ripping flesh.
they actually probably never lived together since saurophaganax was found in a WHOLE different bone bed (saurophaganax is a Oklahoma bushy basin member while torvosaurus and allosaurus and most of its species other than fragilis where current in other places. so did they meet? no is it likely? yes! there isn't any evidence for it as of now tho ) and more recent estimates on its weight put it at 6 to - 9 tons anyway with claws that could stab a bullet in someones chest larger than a shotgun wound
Dude, props for sharing the artists name for every image you provide. Paleoartists dont get enough credit and it would have been so easy just to take the art and run. Thanks for that!
Now thanks to the "Leviathan" specimen found among a large group of them (call the Snax Pack iirc) in the Morrison formation (which lets just say the naming convention have a mostly "Norse" theme to them), Saurophaganax Maximus got a really big size buff since this short was first released. For reference, the 2nd largest specimen "Fenris" (OMNH 1371~) was over 3 meters tall at the hips (9+ ft), around 11 metres long (36 ft) and weighed 5300 kg (5.8 US tons) meanwhile "Leviathan" (OMNH 1188) was (using reliable conservative estimates while upscaling from Fenris) at least 3.5 meters tall at the hips (11.5 ft), at least 12.8 meters long (41.11 ft) and weight at least 8300 kg (9.1 US tons). Yup Saurophaganax Maximus has (for the time being) become the emperor of the Jurassic period and would've possibly been the largest terrestrial predator to have ever lived in North America for tens of millions of years until the Tyrannosaurus Rex took that title in the late Cretaceous period. Also keep in mind for "Leviathan" these are still conservative estimates (the actual precise size has yet to be fully published) plus there is some well founded preliminary research that indicates Saurophaganax may have been a very early Carchardontosaur instead of an Allosaurinae (essentially Sauro and Allo would go from half-siblings to twice removed cousins) which would further buff Saurophaganax's size even more but this is still all speculation and current paleontology naturally doesn't want to repeat the mistakes of the past with the gross oversizing of extinct animals (from sauropod size Spinosaurus to the infamous Kaiju Liopleurodon). Tl;dr: thanks to Kenton specimens Saurophaganax Maximus went from being possibly a mega-theropod to arguably being in the upper echelons of the mega-theropod hierarchy only surpassed by the Giga and T.Rex (also keep in mind there isn't an agreed average size for the Saurophaganax Maximus).
King of the Jurassic? Potentially but King of the entire Mesozoic? Heck no I could literally name at least 10 Theropods that could beat Saurophaganx in a fight more often than not
Saurophaganax doesn't get nearly enough representation in Paleo media, but its few appearances have always been pretty special. In Planet Dinosaur its brief confrontation with the Allosaurus made it seem incredibly intimidating, and in Dinosaur King not only did it have a badass design, but it didn't just have a single episode dedicated to it like most dinosaurs and actually came back as the main villain's main dinosaur. An absolute badass of a dinosaur.
What the If the Jurassic era was a movie Allosaurus : bully Ceratosaurus: the main character Torvosaurus: that one kid who literally beats the bully in 1 minute Sauroxphagnax : boss music starts playing
Allosaurus's bite force isn't that weak anymore, according to the most recent method of estimating dinosaur's bite force, Allosaurus had a bite force of nearly a ton!
Compared with therapods their size or a little bigger that isn't much, t rex had around a 4 ton bite force and even majungasaurus which was smaller than allo had a stronger bite
Speaking for myself but it's scary but intriguing to know we have freedom just like dinosaurs. They could go wherever, whenever. The difference between them and us, they had to worry about if they would be able to sleep that night. It wasn't a guarantee such as us more commonly than not. Imagine the anxiety that prey animals live with daily. Not including the empty stomach as a predator that hasn't eaten in over a week. Us humans are so disconnected with mother nature compared to any "wild" animal
I feel like they were potentially an evolution of the allosaurus genus which potentially grew larger in order to take down the increasing larger herbivores and stay at the top of the therapod food chain at the time
Our source had a little maiden I believe in them to be related because they did this they have the little maid in arms like the allosaurus legs were built for charging T-Rex only charging straight on no turning back only charging screen on
