Night Ranger's drummer, Kelly Keagy, wrote this song about his sister Kristy (this is the correct spelling), who is 10 years younger than him and was growing up fast. "It's the big brother looking after his little sister when she's growing up".
Finally the true story behind the song.
Truth
My favorite band in the world. Actually they were not considered a hairband not that there’s anything wrong with that but they were not a hairband. They were power rock
true
This song was written about a member's younger sister, Kristy coming for a visit from College and about how quickly she was growing up.
"Motoring" was a term used for cruising the main strip to pick up girls.
Night Ranger is one of the most underrated bands ever. They have so many great songs 🎵
This song since i was a teen...still gives me goosebumps. & a lump in my throat..😳🥴🔥💞🌻
Wife here..Me too!!
Me too 😥🥰
They are so awesome! The Guitarist filled in with Ozzy when Randy Rhodes passed away.
Brad gillis
This is one of their softer songs. Next Night Ranger reactions: "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" "You Can Still Rock in America" "Sing Me Away" "When You Close Your Eyes"
Sing me Away....Yes!
The ballads drove death spikes into rock and roll.
Also Four in the Morning
@@allenwhitmer8192 Yes, and "Goodbye"
@@Tesses0927 Yes, two of my favorites right there
as others have said, drummer kelly keagy wrote this song for his 10 years younger sister, kristy, whom he thought was growing up too fast. it was titled "sister kristy" originally but the band either misheard it or thought it sounded/flowed better as "christian", which it does. the rest is history and a great song ❤
Yes, he's telling his sister not to give it up to soon. But also back in the day teenagers would cruise through town at night. It was a thing back then. Great reaction guys. 👍
In my small town on Fri and Sat nights we would drag the main street, yelling and laughing at the other cars. Stop at the grocery store parking lot to talk if wanted to. 1973 was a good year for cruising the strip.
@@MsAmericanMaid that still happens 🙃
Iconic 80's song. LOVE this one :)
This song was played in the movie “Boogie Nights” staring Mark Wahlberg, and the scene became iconic.
I saw these guys in concert at Carowinds in the late 80s.
They were great!!
These guys played a concert at a venue where I worked on the stage crew. 1985. During the show, they gave out about 75 back stage, after show passes, to the 75 best looking women their road crew could locate. I got assigned to guard the dressing room door from the hoard of ladies in an adjacent common room. Lort. I got five phone numbers.
I’m SO LOVING THIS!!! Yet another favorite 80’s anthem! It’s on my playlist today!! Thanks! You’re both killin’ it with these reactions lately. Mad love from NC! 💜💙
Drummer and vocalist Kelly Keagy wrote the song after visiting his teenage sister Christy in Eugene, Oregon, and was amazed at how fast she had grown up
First time? You gotta try “you can still rock in America” and “don’t tell me you love me”. Jamming songs!!
Great songs..Also, When you close your eyes👍🏼
God, I love this song reminds me of someone who's gone now! Being Sister Christi! I was growing up when this came up. No longer a baby! I can't hear it without crying 😢 😭!
This song was my high school graduation song! I sure feel old now.
I saw them in concert January 29 1984. They opened for ZZ Top. Awesome concert, 2 awesome bands. The bassist Jack Blades later joined the super group Damn Yankees.
“Don’t tell me you love me” is their most popular song & put them on the map & is a scorching BANGER !
PROPS should also be given for the Drums and Vocals too... and the piano was a great touch as well.
Nice reaction, so many songs to react to with this band, so many great hits, talented musicians! Try Don't Tell Me You Love Me next.
I've Loved night ranger since the mid 80s and I was blessed to see him 2 weeks ago at the California State Fair featuring Sister Christian. One of the best rock and roll ballots I've heard in a while, love seeing both of you break it down and getting other perspectives on it, keep up the good work I'll be a new subscriber following your channel!!🤘
the drummer of the band wrote this song about his sister who was growing up too fast and getting ready to leave home and go to college and he was very sad about it, he was telling her wait for Mr. right, not mr. right now
Y'all find all the good stuff. An absolute classic 👍👍 love the song 👍. 🇺🇸. ❤️🌎✌️
This song was in the movie Boogie Nights. Great reaction, you finally played this classic.
Oh the 80’s, so much memories with this song. 🤩😀😁
Wife here..Wow..BJ..."You have officially been hairsprayed"..That line was incredibly clever BJ..!! This song is about an older Brother warning his Sster about things in life as she grows up..I still crank this iconic song !!..Yes.., Ms.Asia.."Don't be a fast girl"..Great Reaction U2!!
I saw them back in October and they are still rockin'. Gonna see them again next month.
Every time I hear this song I think of the movie Boogie nights 😁
Yeah, together with "99 Luftballons" by Nena
Alfred Molina!👍😂🧨
@@michaelfletcher9640 Yeesss! I bet that dude in the film was high since 2 weeks lol!😄
This song and The search is over by Survivor always get me in the feels!!! 80’s ballads are the best!
Night Ranger is a great band! "Let Him Run" and "(You Can Still)Rock In America" are 2 of my favorites
I was happy to see this one come up for a reaction. I have requested it a few times, and it always just missed winning a poll. Thank you and thank you @jd! It's what I call one of the very top "quintessential" songs of the 80's, and I have so many different and great memories associated with it.
Night ranger is a great band from the '80s and they have major number one hits
This song was used in the movie Boogie Nights in a classic scene. The soundtrack too the movie is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend it. You Guy's are great.💙💙💜
"That's just Cosmo".....
@@warinsidemyhead8939 Alfred Molina should have won an Oscar for Supporting Actor!!👍
Takes me back to the early 80's! 7 Wishes is one of my favorite albums from that time, but Midnight Madness is special cause I listened outside the NMMI stadium because my parents wouldnt buy us tickets... we were like 11or 12...
Omg I use to see Night Ranger perform when they were known previously by the name " Rubicon" at the Hemet fairgrounds in Hemet California in late 70s. Always loved this song that he wrote for his sister. The term " Motorin" was used because kids would cruise around towns to have something to do. Boys would pick up girls this way back then. So he was telling his sister there's more to life than Motorin around looking for Mr. Right....Boy how times have changed since then. Great memories ❤️
I bet the 80s was fun
When Kelly played the demo of this song for the rest of the band...he was singing "Sister KRISTY oh the time has come" and the other band members mis-heard the name and thought it was "CHRISTIAN." After he corrected them...everyone just sort of agreed that "Christian" worked better...and an 80's classic was born. This was a 2-edged sword for Night Ranger, though. Yes, it was a HUGE hit and no band is gonna ever complain about having a hit song, but the success of this song pigeon holed Night Ranger into being thought of as a ballad band...when in fact they are an incredibly hard ROCKIN' band and still are SO great live to this day.
I still remember rocking out to this at my first real 'grown up' concert. Night Ranger opened up for Survivor. I was so happy! Thanks for the reaction and the reminder of happy memories.
This was one of their biggest hits. I saw them back in 2017, when they opened for "Boston". It was a great trip down '80s memory lane! 🔥🔥🔥
I was lucky enough to be in a band that opened for night ranger at a show here in Michigan. I got to say there a bunch of great guys awesome musicians and they treated my band like we were best friends with them.
The band is Night Ranger and the song is Sister Christian. This song or pieces of it has been in many movies. That’s probably where you heard it.
I seen Night Ranger on this tour in Jr high, takes me to an innocent place in my life. Good times and memories. A great coming of age song when I was coming of age.
"Don't Tell Me You Love Me" next please! A rocker that predates this ballad. Love that one.
this song was huge! MTV was just taking off! and it was played none stop! you guys were 100% right!
The guitarist in that solo was Brad gillis the lead vocals are Jack blades bassist, and Kelly keagy drummer,
For some reason this gives me nostalgia for hanging out at the arcade in the 80s.
I wish you guys did the official video. It's kinda iconic being played on MTV almost every hour. It also gives you more information like, he's not singing about his sister. lol
I remember going for long drives and playing this song. Love this song.
The ozzy osbourne concert was in Irvine, California in 1982. Night Ranger has a great catalog of music. .they played sister christian in a lot of movies in the 1980's. Peace Out
I liked when Bj paused the song and said he was loving the guitar just before the solo. I was like, just wait! This is one of my favorite guitar solos. Brad Gillis is an amazing guitarist. Much like how David Gilmour from Pink Floyd, his guitars can speak to your soul and tell their own story.
Night Ranger loved them. Never considered them a Hair Band. Maybe because they were from the Bay Area and not LA. The dual guitars of Jeff Watson and Brad Gillis. Their first album Dawn Patrol was solid all the way through. The follow-up Midnight Madness is also a great album. Then Thrash took over the Bay Area, and LA was all about the Hair Bands. Night Ranger is just a great Hard Rock Band,. Y&T is another amazing Bay Area Band to check out. Dave Meneketti's guitar work.... out of this world.
Brings back memories of my high school days ! This was written for his little sister ❣️
Back in the early 70's we visited some cousins in Cody Wyoming. What this sing calls motorin and some call cruising, they called bugging main. It's all basically the same thing. Driving up and down the street to see and be seen.
Checkout Don't Tell Me You Love Me and You Can Still Rock In America. Also, check out the Damn Yankees- Bad Reputation and Don't Tread On Me. Jack Blades lead singer of this band, Ted Nugent, Tommy Shaw of Styx, Michael Cortellone current drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd were in Damn Yankees.
Another one of my favorites! As usual you guys rock!
First concert I went to in Chico California 1984. The band is Night Ranger.
"Motoring" is the same thing we did in Washington state called "Cruising" something we used to do in the 80s where you and your friends jump in a car and cruise up and down town or streets picking up on guys and girls or just meeting up with Friends. Good times.
How’d I miss this? 80’s…..tenors …..again- yep ! ❤️🎼🎶❤️
"Motorin" in the song ,means cruising. The song was used in the movie "BOOGIE NIGHTS" and 2009 "FRIDAY THE 13th"
Love me some Night Ranger! Don’t tell me you love me is a great tune!
A great song from a great band! Still touring!
Great song from 1984. I suggest Greg Kihn--Jeopardy, Weird Al Yankovic did a parody of this one too haha. BJ, the song is used in several films, including during the drug deal scene in Paul Thomas Anderson's film Boogie Nights, in the 2009 reboot of Friday the 13th, and in the 1999 comedy Superstar starring Molly Shannon. Night Ranger has other songs such as: "Sentimental Street" "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" "When You Close Your Eyes" "You Can Still Rock In America" "Sing Me Away" "Goodbye" "Four In The Morning (I Can't Take Anymore)" "Call My Name" "Seven Wishes" "The Secret Of My Success" "Don't Start Thinking" "Big Life" "Reason To Be" "Eddie's Coming Out Tonight" "Why Does Love Have To Change" "I Did It For Love" "Chippin' Away."
Don't tell me you love me, you can still rock in America and I need a touch of madness. These are great choices for future Night Ranger songs, to react to.
Actually Night Ranger does have a song called Night Ranger. Many great songs and great live. Still touring as we speak!!!
I literally went to their concert last night here in Alaska great show.
This song is forever tied to Mark Wahlberg Wahlberg and Julianne Moore in their first lm Boogie Knights. An 80s classic that is featured in a lot film and television as a beloved classic of the 80s era. Night Ranger is a great band. Check out Don't Tell Me You Love Me, You can still Rock in America, Send Me Away and other tunes. They were really popular when they came out and another San Francisco and California hit maker often receiving BAM awards like Journey and other bands from the San Francisco area.
Great track, one of the first songs I taught myself on the keyboard, it'll never get old. When I was a kid I'd always drop what I was doing on GTA: Vice City so I could listen to the whole thing, maybe that's where you've heard it before.
Cheers
Love the Blue Jays hat ! And the reactions to these great songs of the 80s
This is the song I dedicated to my niece Kylie ❤️ I actually have a video of me singing this to her on RUclips under "Baby loves sister christian "
Yes sir!! Sister Christian is a great band!!!
Night Ranger is a quasi super group formed in our birthplace, San Francisco 🌁 I remember when each member was in different bands before they formed Night Ranger.
Alan "Fitz" Gerald was in Montrose, the Bay Area group that had Sammy Hagar and Denny Carmassi, who later joined Heart ❤.
AG, Brad Gillis, Jeff Watson and Kelly Keagy were in Alameda All Stars with the late Gregg Allman.
BG and KK were also in Rubicon, where they met Jack Blades. These 3, AG and JW came together and formed Night Ranger 🌙
40 years ago 🎂, Randy Rhodes died in a plane accident 😢 Bernie Torme was hired but was a bad fit. BG played ▶ a few dates. But Ozzy and Sharon Osborne mistreated BG. Thus, he returned to Night Ranger 🌙
Sister Christian. Written and sung by Kelly Keagy. Drummer 🥁 This is about his sister Kristi.
I remember this. I played this on the piano 🎹 as a boy!👦 🤯 I still can! And I can sing while playing it! 🤯 Great 👍 song 🎵 of the 1980s.
Suggested song 🎵 Night Ranger plays Secret of My Success.
Song title matches the name of the movie 🎥
You might have heard this song in the movie Boogie Nights. Loved Night Ranger.
The drummer is also the singer on this song and probably half of their songs
This song was used in the movie Boogie nights
This band peformed for the Queen Elizabeth II in a close door concert at the Palace. I saw the special live on MTV in the 80's.
We loved that song back in the day. If you haven’t listened to “Magic Power” by Triumph yet- check it out. It’s a good one for sure!
One of the iconic songs of the 80s - but, four words: "watch the music video"
when you close your eyes by night ranger, it's a song that takes me back so many years to when i was a teen and had so much hope. i would like to see your reaction and watch it with you.
OMG! YOU GUYS MADE ME SOIL MY HUGGIES 😂 LOVE U TWO! ♥️
Don't Tell Me You Love Me and You Can Still Rock in America are two other great songs by Night Ranger
Their killer jam is Don't Tell Me You Love Me.
One of three songs used to masterful effect in the Boogie Nights drug deal scene. 👍
This was a huge song back in the day.
OMG! I love this song. It's being an MTV Kid!
Every bit of the band every member is super talented. Jack Blades of Night Ranger spent a time in a supergroup w Tommy Shaw of Styx (the legend),Ted Nugent known as Damn Yankees.Short lived but legendary.Night Ranger put out many hits but they're albums can be listened to front to back.Greatvreaction couldn't of picked a better band.
Nothin' like an 80's guitar solo is there. 🎸
Always think of the scene from boogie nights when i hear this song.
Takes me back , like I'm there for a minute. Heavy sigh! ❤️✌️
This song was on heavy rotation when it came out
The band is Night Ramger.
Forever a great classic.
the lead guitarist for this band took over for Ozzy Osbourne when Randy Rhoads was killed.
"I'm feeling like I have heard this somewhere, I can't figure out where I might have heard it"
How about any radio station for the last 35 years? 😀
Terrific song. Godspeed, Kelly
So what the song is about, it’s about an older brother worrying about his younger sister and when she comes into her teenage years and he says “don’t you give it up before your Time is to“ don’t you give yourself your body to just anybody is what the song is about And that she’s getting older and older and she’s soon going to be motoring out of the house motoring in life. Growing up 😢
This song is awesome, thanks for sharing
Short story - don't be in a rush to grow-up. Take your time Sister Christian (Kristy in RL)
You've GOT to do "Boogie Nights" for your movie channel. This song is used in the most epic scene in the whole movie.
Song was in BOOGIE NIGHTS
BRINGS BACK MEMORIES
