They are not drifting... Powersliding. Drifting is artistic, points given for hitting the right line through the corners. Powersliding is all about momentum and keeping as much speed as possible through the corner.
During "Rally Finland 2016" a average speed of 78.68mph (126.62km/h) was clocked by driver Kris Meeke driving a Citroën DS3 WRC. Average is however a bit lower then this. 3:39 Freeze frame it on this timestamp, you will see they nearly hit 2 camera's placed by the fans (no fans there luckily) And a 3rd camera if you freeze it on 3:40. This driver is so good that he manages to leave all camera's where they are and zoom straight trough the middle. In the Netherlands we have a saying: "Gas is alles" (gas is everything) which pretty much means, floor it and don't stop unless you really have no other choice. For rally drivers, this is pretty much a life motto, DO NOT STOP haha. Got something else for you that you might enjoy to watch. In America this isn't a thing, but in Europe very much so. It's European Truck Racing Championship. The difference is that today there are more safety precautions and far more support systems for the drivers. Also the layouts of the tracks changed to support the faster cars. Remember: group b was canceled because it went too fast and too dangerous. As Walter Röhrl said: "Compared to what we have done, todays rallye is a childs birtday party." I still enjoy Rallye today but it's very tame compared to the 80s. Sorry lad, but i'm just an old guy from a time where sex was safe and motorsports was dangerous. 😉

Some events had 50+ fast stages compared to around 20 per event today. Death trap cars and as much cheating in the grey zones as possible and then some. Crowd standing ON the road and so on. And on top of it all stood FIA and didn't give a rats ass about the drivers. I have seen it live in Sweden and Finland between 1982-86 til it ended with to many lives lost to stupidity. It was more then awesome to see them cars but it had to stop cos it had gone to far already.

In America we have only few rally adjacent cars. Focus R instead of Fiesta R. Corolla GR not Yaris GR. It might be tough to find but Mitsubishi EVO’s are fastest out of box. My personal favorite is Subaru WRX STI. Unless you have $ for transmissions & internal engine parts keep HP under 400. 325-350 won’t cause too many issues. Fun thing is depending on set up with turbo you can select HP levels. Had hot hatch but could select 155,170, 195, 205 or 225 hp in 2500 lbs car.
If you think the spectators are to close in this, you should watch Group B from the 80's. The crowds were literally in the road and run to get out of the way. It was banned when too many drivers and spectators got killed.
a gr yaris is the closest thing you can get to a rally car for the road, if you want it to look like a real rally car though you're gonna need a rally wing, bucket seats, a roll cage, and a rally widebody kit, and some performance upgrades

just saying, F1 drivers aren't allowed to this in their contracts, this is beyond professional level, its insanity, and not everyone can be Ken Block, but if you're passionate about this, there are rally schools which teach this style of driving, there's nothing you cant do but you gotta put in work.. Dirt 2.0 and WRC 2023 are the the goats sim racing, plenty of players and competition, its allot of fun
Thanks for a good reaction. If your kid started doing this from age 2-3 and had he/his first “fall” from a few inches, they would gain experience in assessing dangers/strong and weak branches. By age 5 they will instinctively know safe from unsafe.

You can try rallying through a Sim. Try EA WRC, Dirt Rally 2.0 or Richard Burns Rally. They're the best ones out there, and RBR is free and the most realistic when it comes to driving, but the graphics are somewhat outdated.
You can theoretically build your own rally car for less money than buying one that's already been built/used, but it would still take a lot of time & money to do so. It also probably wouldn't be to as high a spec as these professionally built cars.

formula one ex driver david coulthard did a practice run with the current wrc champ. he lasted two runs one up and one down a hill before he tapped out. his team mate lasted 7.5 km up the hill. Davids comments afterwards were that these guys make F1 drivers look like amateurs.

@@craydust7240 They don't have to be hard to drive. My rally car is a club level one, so most of it is pretty standard. You can stop and start it the same as any other car. It just handles so much better at speed on gravel!

OK,let me say this, NASCAR in compair to RALLY, its boring to watch Nascar going round and round, and takes to long time wasting the EMOTIONS you get in compair to Rally, you get your own adrenaline skyhigh at same time watching rally. So in the end NASCAR sucks bigg time. You who watch NASCAR come watch rally and get yourself the experience in what rally is and your hear rate goes nuts.

It was because the Saab 96 didn't had much power, so they had to flick it around to keep the engine revved up and in the powerband.
