@@mgrib3594 in America, the only "pilots" are operating a racing boat or airplane pilots! The fact that C.M. had a license to fly a 🚁 helicopter, but that doesn't mean that he was a good pilot. LQQk at how many jack-ass's have a driver's license and crash vehicles daily! Helo's are especially dangerous because you don't have the airspeed of an airplane to create lift, vs the blades alone!

During "Rally Finland 2016" a average speed of 78.68mph (126.62km/h) was clocked by driver Kris Meeke driving a Citroën DS3 WRC. Average is however a bit lower then this.
3:39 Freeze frame it on this timestamp, you will see they nearly hit 2 camera's placed by the fans (no fans there luckily) And a 3rd camera if you freeze it on 3:40. This driver is so good that he manages to leave all camera's where they are and zoom straight trough the middle.
In the Netherlands we have a saying: "Gas is alles" (gas is everything) which pretty much means, floor it and don't stop unless you really have no other choice. For rally drivers, this is pretty much a life motto, DO NOT STOP haha.
Got something else for you that you might enjoy to watch. In America this isn't a thing, but in Europe very much so. It's European Truck Racing Championship.
These things have so much power that a rally car is left in the dust, up to 160 km/h (about 100 MPH) which is the maximum speed limit with engines limited to a maximum cubic capacity of 13000cm3.

I was chatting with a Finnish colleague and she said “There are only three things the rest of the world know about my country: metal bands; sauna; and rally.” I added “It’s dark six months of the year and you have a language where every third consonant is a k.” She had a laugh at that. The perpetual night, ice and snow, 24x7 metal music, and diet of pickled herrings have led to the average Finn being amongst the finest drivers in the world. The Swedes are up there too, only their preference for ABBA to Sabaton holds them back.

@@VoidCosmonaut Beautiful? That's a matter of taste. I prefer cars like the Quattro or the Lancia 037
It's partly true, todays cars are faster and more agile than those of group b, but not by much. The difference is that today there are more safety precautions and far more support systems for the drivers. Also the layouts of the tracks changed to support the faster cars.
Remember: group b was canceled because it went too fast and too dangerous. As Walter Röhrl said: "Compared to what we have done, todays rallye is a childs birtday party."
I still enjoy Rallye today but it's very tame compared to the 80s. Sorry lad, but i'm just an old guy from a time where sex was safe and motorsports was dangerous. 😉

Some events had 50+ fast stages compared to around 20 per event today. Death trap cars and as much cheating in the grey zones as possible and then some. Crowd standing ON the road and so on. And on top of it all stood FIA and didn't give a rats ass about the drivers. I have seen it live in Sweden and Finland between 1982-86 til it ended with to many lives lost to stupidity. In America we have only few rally adjacent cars. Focus R instead of Fiesta R. Corolla GR not Yaris GR. It might be tough to find but Mitsubishi EVO’s are fastest out of box. My personal favorite is Subaru WRX STI. Unless you have $ for transmissions & internal engine parts keep HP under 400. 325-350 won’t cause too many issues. Fun thing is depending on set up with turbo you can select HP levels. Had hot hatch but could select 155,170, 195, 205 or 225 hp in 2500 lbs car.
