Looks like one of those 20 minute jobs that winds up taking all afternoon.

Haha exactly! It's always the small things. Sometimes it's just that 1 screw from Hell that is the hardest part of the day just to get off🤣 Thanks for watching & stay safe out there!🔧

Literally, there was one job I had where I had to take a motor out of a make up air unit and I spent the entire day taking the bearings off which were rusty as hell.

Appreciate the candid video - happens to us all! I’ve taken these off before and some additional tips that helped:
-leave the front allen screw alone so as to avoid changing pitch, loosen only the rear
-heat around the pulley to expand it slightly, using a heat gun or propane torch
-slide a short iron pipe over the shaft protrusion to tap on the pulley hub using a hammer or brass mallet. this breaks the pulley free from the shaft by first sliding it backwards slightly.
Short Impact impulses are almost always a safer way of freeing something versus a large static force (aka the puller).

you suppose to take out that metal wedge first. that’s why you were not able to slide it off pretty sure you figured it out after the fact .. good video

@@justbeingreal5839yeah he forgot to say that. Maybe try to tap out like from behind with some little rod and the hammer?

Get yourself a blunt drill bit , spray the pulley with penetration fluid(WD40 is not that great) and then start to drill the end of the shaft until it gets hot or you see smoke. This should help to unseize the pulley. Also when using that type of pulley best to use a brace between the claws and pulley. i.e flat piece of wood. Keep the videos coming :)

Put a nut on the end of the shaft and put your puller into the nut. Helps keep it from getting off center or falling off. Good video

Great video. I'm glad you showed the way it really is sometimes 😅 Just did almost exactly the same job yesterday but got lucky though no rust came right off without needing the puller.

Use a paint stripper and make it hot, doctor heat works always good, wd 40 not that is a teflon spray , we use "imal" rust spray let it works 1 day and spray more again in that day, you see that works better.

OH I RECOMMEND first heating up the Allen screws with a torch in case the maker used a lock tite glue on their threads and then also wd40 the screws before removal.

You could have applied heat to the pulley with small propane torch and put a round Metal Disk that slipped behind the pulley and pulled on that instead of the
Pulley itself because the pulley is made of an inferior metal.

I pulled mine back and fourth then sanded the shaft . because i was replacing the motor too. It was stuck on the marks from thr retaining screws. I think someone put on one of the allen screws with a impact. It scores the pulley shaft and locked up my pulley. I showed that thing who the boss was though

Next Time use a Proper Penetrating Lubricant Not WD 40.. Spray good and leave overnight. Much better results...

Did the end of the pully screw all the way off or are you trying to pull through the threading? Lol

should of removed the keyway, and then put a drill to the puller. momentum is your friend, plus cranking on shit sideways means youll never get it straight.

I recently bought a new motor and replaced the small pulley and it started up fine but within 5 minutes or so it over heats and shuts down. Can you tell me how to fix this? Thank you.

Pipe Wrench Spanner . turn it and remove . pully remover tools is not good.it breaks soft metals pully

  • @josh6979

Good video but used the wrong type of puller. There is a puller that looks like a disc that cam be separated in half. That would fit behind the pulley and around the entire base of the pulley rather than having the force focused on 3 points. Great job though.

If you would have bulled the pin out the front first it would have worked first try lmao

  • @chiil034

You should back off the backside of the pulley, the threaded end... and put the pulley on the back of the front side. Maybe less of a chance to destroy the pulley.
