  • My firewood stand was robbed and vandalized in broad daylight. I had a game camera that picked up most of the action including a nice picture of his face and his license plate. The police were not very interested in this petty case until they realized it was performed in a stolen vehicle. He was captured and eventually plead guilty to a few counts including auto theft and theft in the third degree. Firewood sales have gone well since then. Here is a link to a video with the footage of the theft.

You a nice man. I would've named that asshole. When someone stole my car it wasn't just the car and the value. What hit me the most was all the times I got up on cold wet mornings to go to work, the late nights, OT, doubles. Everything I had to do and sacrifice to earn that money. And someone just took it. I have no sympathy for thieves.

Understood. I have never had something as valuable as a truck stolen, but I have had a quad stolen the loss of value and the feeling of being violated is not good.

      Amen.
I honestly believe that they should have their hands removed or rendered useless. I'd like to imagine that theft would take a dramatic downfall if they knew that when they got caught, at the very least, they'd lose their hands.

I'm glad they got him, but the part that is aggravating is that the authorities weren't very worried about it until the stolen vehicle came up. Our law enforcement here is the same way, but it looks like to me if you stop the small problems, the big problems don't occur as often. Maybe that's just my logic.

I'm such an innocent that, from reading the video title, I thought he was stealing the bundles of firewood!!

@@FlanaganHomestead well said. And the footage of him destroying the cash box was unbelievable. He should have gotten community service after serving his jail term.

I have a similar roadside stand here in se Ohio. Most people are honest but have had a couple of problems. I just have a thin sheet metal locking mailbox for a cash box, and someone once pried it open, but I think it was empty so they did more damage than stole anything. This year around labor day, I had a couple who came back 4 times stealing wood. The would take 4 or 5 bundles and leave like a dollar in the cash box so it looked like they paid. But I empty the box every night, and do not sell that much so pretty easy to tell. I did put up game cams on poles and got images of them and their car the last couple of times, but never got a good image of the license plate. I did get a couple of road signs about turning in drug dealers to the sheriff while in their office and put up small sign that cameras were in use. They did not come back after that since even those idiots figured out they were now on camera, and I had talked to the sheriff. I would have pressed charges, but I am just as glad that they stopped stealing my wood. Seems stupid that people would risk going to jail for $60 worth of firewood.

I believe you are correct. Robbery I believe is done to a person with force or threat of that did not happen here.
