- I live in a recreational area where firewood for campsites is always needed. I have decided to build a self server firewood stand which people can take wood and simply drop money in a payment box. I will be making my bundles larger and cheaper than the local stores. This will still be a greater income per cord for me, although more work bundling. The big question is will people pay and be honest or will they steal my wood. The stand is not located near any houses or viewing areas. It will be easy to steal if people are so inclined. This is kind of a social experiment. We will see if it works.

The stand looks great, especially the sign. I’ve been selling bundles and stacks for a number of years. Some have been stolen, and sometimes they short-pay, but most people are honest. I bet the same person took all your bundles. Two years ago, I had a couple bundles stolen, and I added a small sign that says “Please don’t steal” and the stealing stopped. I think it was the same person, and maybe the sign was all it took . Maybe get an old game camera or security camera and place in a nearby tree and then put up a sign that says “Smile, you’re on camera”. People won’t know that it’s not hooked up, and it may be just enough to stop them. Best of luck!

Maybe putting up a sign saying "Under Video Surveillance" would help.

I was sitting down at the computer to post an update video. It should be up within the hour. The best part of the update is I haven’t been stolen from since that first day and things are going well. I hope you have great success. In my next video I do the math on how many bundles you can get from a cord. I don’t think I will ever sell by the cord again.
Looking forward to your camp sites. One of my daughters use hip camp frequently and really like their experiences. Your place would be about halfway for both of us and a fun place to visit our one time home.

I’ve sold about 25 or so bundles out of my stand and no body ever stole any but I had one person sort my 5$ just once’s though
the trick is to put 2 out as display and keep the rest in the backyard
Out of the last 20 bundles I put on my stand I had 4 of them stolen and was shorted $1 on one I sell 12”x12 seasoned hardwood bundles for $5 which I felt was generous on my part and thought this might keep people honest but I guess not.
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it turns around for you. I was frustrated with the initial theft but it has turned around and been good.
People probably paying for the wood, thieves are stealing the money from the box most likely! It's sad but you most likely won't have much luck with the Honor system.
We had one guy Rob me multiple times. I put in a metal cash box. He brought an angle grinder and cut it open, but I got great video of him doing it. He has been arrested. Ever since then most of the bundles have been paid for.you can see the video of him stealing it on my channel.

Unfortunately I have seen a fair amount of theft.
I buy firewood for my campsite at a local firewood processing mill they have steel bins out front full of wood for 40 Dollars and it's the honor system after hours they have a oxygen bottle in concrete with a slit in it for money they also have cameras I have been there paid my money and watched scumbags pull up and take wood without paying and drive off and I am talking 4-5 yrs ago don't know what the situation is nowadays

@@FlanaganHomestead it's funny where I camp I can go from PA to across the river to NJ where both states have farm stands with produce and some selling honey and the honor system with cash so if needed you could make change never saw anyone steal from one of those but firewood is a different story

Somehow you should fix the volume on the video can't hear one minute & then maybe better the next minute.
Maybe you should do voiceovers until you learn how to have the right volume throughout the video??
I do appreciate your input. Audio has been an issue I am working on. When I do voice overs with the current microphone I have it sounds terrible. I will get it right some day.
I can't stand dishonest people I mean it just really irks me so bad. It gives me anxiety that people arnt just good people.
