- We would love Sony to make a successor to the PlayStation Portable and PS Vita, but does it make sense? On the one hand, portable consoles are all the rage, between Nintendo Switch’s record-breaking success and a Switch 2 (or whatever it’s called) waiting in the wings, Valve’s surprise entry into the gaming hardware race with the Steam Deck and now, Xbox head Phil Spencer talking about how he’d love a dedicated way to take Xbox on the go. So, there’s demand for new dedicated portable PlayStation device, but there’s also a lot of competition. Does it make sense for Sony to hop on the bandwagon, or rest on the PS5’s laurels and stick to home consoles, plus the occasional weirdo accessory. The PlayStation Portal was sort of portable, and it was technically a PSP, was Sony testing the waters? Hmm.
In other news, a new feature in the PS App is being beta-tested that would let you take in-game lore on the go, letting you access stuff like journal entries, character databases, and that sort of thing through your phone or mobile device. Not something we were demanding, but cool nonetheless, and definitely a fun way to supplement games we’re playing when we’re not actually playing them. Helldivers 2 got a patch that adds blizzards, sandstorms, and makes fire hurt more. Stellar Blade’s demo just dropped, and it’s undeniably a good-looking game, but the discourse around its protagonist’s appearance makes it hard to be remotely critical of any other aspects like the story, creature design, mechanics or combat.
Still, that won’t stop us from stumbling across this week’s most explosive minefield. In other news, Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League’s first DLC is here, and Jada and Akeem have strong feelings, good and bad, about how it handles DC’s clown prince of crime: Captain Boomerang. It's crazy that everybody forgets this, but the PSP was where remote play started and you could play your PS3 titles remotely. Also, some people don't realize this, but if you have a PS4 hooked up in the same network as your PS5 on another TV, you can remote play from your PS4. All of your PS5 games. Remote play is much more integrated into Sony's ecosystem everyone's giving credit
That’s true I definitely remember remote playing a bit on the vita, never tried it on psp though, but yeah the remote play is great all around!

Since having small kids my gaming habits have changed and my gaming is largely done portable format. Xcloud through phone, switch and meta quest 2. Id love to sit down and play more in front of tv but it just isnt practical, so any of these companies making a handheld is a big win for me.
Wrt a handheld, the moment you start asking developers - who are already stretched thin - to support multiple tiers of hardware on one platform you're asking for one of those tiers to die. A handheld from Sony should be the target platform with an accompanying console that takes advantage of AI upscaling, faster storage and memory to provide an enhanced experience without extra work from the developer.

People are not upset over the lack of sexy female characters in games. They are upset over the bogus IGN France article that paints the game's design as sexist and the creators not having interactions with real women. Back peddle Back peddle. Sigh.

Vita had the same problem as PSVR. Lack of support. Sony probably can't FULLY support more than one device. That's why PSVR is failing. That's why PS portal is a GREAT decision.

No one should be made to feel ashamed over wanting what they deem "sexy protagonists." The conversation surrounding Stellar Blade has to do with individuals within games media lambasting individuals for wanting characters to look a particular way. If mocked individuals voice thier disinterest in the more modern designs for certain character they are made to feel ashamed, yet characters (specifically male) that are overtly sexualized are never dismisseds in such a manner.
which male characters in modern games have been sexualized? they all have a full head of clothes and not just that clothes that actually work for the fighting they are doing. know one was shaming u until the majority of your internet friends starting making fun of average looking female characters and comparing them to eve. we dont give af that u like eve

It felt like Jada was just trying to overpower Hakeem's opinion of the new Joker. He's allowed to have his opinion and she's allowed to have hers, but it was off-putting to see her take 10 minutes to try to tell Hakeem that his opinion (that this was the worst iteration of Joker in video games) is wrong.
If that’s how it came across for you, then that just how it came across. The only thing I was trying to overpower him on was questioning my connection to the characters and then saying I can’t use other versions of the joker in my argument for why I think this iteration of him is fine. I’m totally fine with this being the worst joker for him. At the end of the day we are good friends and we’re just having fun with a spirited debate.

The last thing this and arguably subsequent gens need is more splinters in their division. That's one of the reasons why Nintendo is thriving with it's Switch. All it's efforts go in one concentrated direction.

People have been clamouring for Sony to make a new handheld but I’m personally not holding my breath for that.
Let's be honest. Even today you can make games for PS4 and they will look really great. Even Jedi Survivor could be released on PS4, they tell us they want to port it on the console. So Sony could make a portable console backwards compatible with PS4, this console could have 720p LCD screen and be able to remote play PS5 and PS6 games in the future using WiFi connection. What could be better?

Why would anyone want a console handheld over a Steam Deck? Restricted to what that console allows, no mods, no emulation, only allowed play games designed for that system instead of nearly every game ever made
Because the average gamer doesn’t want to tinker to enjoy their games, especially on a portable device. PC players are not the majority of the market.
Steam deck is lame compared to windows handhelds. No real launcher support and can’t use gamepass without mods. Steam games have “deck” settings built in so you can just use those presets on windows handhelds. ROG Ally and legion go clear the deck in my opinion.

7:30 - Nintendo Switch also ended the discussion of mobile gaming taking over console gaming, by bringing them together. Perhaps that's why Steam Deck and other "Switch clones" came along... 🤔

Your handheld ideas are not considering that the current machines out there, such as ROG Ally and Legion Go are capable of playing PS5 games at a lower graphical fidelity. Maybe they do like an Xbox series S/X style. Where you can get a PS6 and PS6P.

Jada is absolutely correct on Suicide Squad. Hakeem sounds like he's cribbing languagw from forums, especially on The Joker. Lots of pretenders attempting to gatekeep over these DC characters, as if DC hasn't been fluid with its interpretations of characters since the damned 60s.

They probably don't want to make a handheld cause it will canibilize their overpriced console which they value more.
Do these guys not understand technology or what people want with a handheld. They can release the full blown game and just lower resolution and use upscale tech to run the games similar to the xbox series s and x versions. You don’t need a 4k handheld and since the games are designed for that system it would be fine to run.
The handheld would need to be sold at a profit because you potentially would have people buying a game once and then having to recoup cost of both handheld and home device. It doesn’t make financial sense.
