- Welcome back to Next-Gen Console Watch! This week Daemon is joined by Ryan McCaffrey, host of IGN's Xbox podcast, Podcast Unlocked, and Seth Macy, from IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat podcast. Now that Nintendo finally had their big summer showcase, all of the big three console makers have laid their cards on the table for the next 12 months. Who do we think will dominate for the next year? Will it be Xbox with their massive stable of first- and second-party games, Sony and their pivot to more family-friendly fare like LEGO Horizon and Astro Bot? Or will the Nintendo Switch go out with a bang with the one-two punch of a new Zelda and Metroid game?

But isn’t a majority of games shown at Xbox coming to ps5? Expedition 33 and doom for example. Plus smaller stuff than mentioned like mixtape and what not.

Xbox. Been a Nintendo gamer since 1987 but bought my first non Nintendo console last year - an Xbox series X. Bought it because of Game Pass which is just amazing.

You forgot Palworld. It got updates. Although, it's an early access it's still a game coming with updates next week

Weakest console this coming year is definitely PlayStation. Everyone complains about a lack of games on Xbox… but where the heck are the games on PS5?

Metroid restarted development and they actually announced and apologised for the delay. Unlike other companies, they would release a hyped up and half finished game (redfall)..

PS3 had great exclusives (games which were not available anywhere else) right from launch, way better lineup than the PS4 and PS5 combined. Absolutely false to refer just to the tail end of the PS3 gen when talking about the rise of PlayStation exclusives.
I'll say Xbox because it actually has games coming out.
Most of those games are coming to ps. Doom, call of duty, flintlock, mixtape, expedition 33 and more. All coming to ps too.
Am not saying game pass is useless but people like owning their games rather than playing on subscription bases

I'm mostly heart broken they didn't gimme anything on Outer Worlds 2 in the XBox presentation. But Doom was a highlight, even if that will end up being multi-plat.

Next year will be one of the best in the last 10 or 15 years. Not only there are a lot of great games, both from playstation and xbox first party studios, also Nintendo is launching a new console alongside a bunch of new games and GTA VI is coming out.

The great thing for me is Xbox simultaneously brings out its IPs for the pc and I’ve got a gaming laptop and a switch that can travel with me (my Xbox unfortunately wont fit in a rucksack) so I’ve got plenty to look forward to.

Showcase season onward Xbox has the kost games that apeal to me personally. Starting to look like theyll have enough for a rlease every month for the next couple years if you include games we know about that werent at this show ie Clockwork revolution

what strategy change??? They already have well running multiple online MMORPG games. Those games updates monthy...releases expansions yearly. What has changed here?
Xbox easy. PlayStation’s state of play was 26-30 min of a few decent games and of course another remake/re release of Until Dawn whereas Xbox gave us an hour and a half of new games, tons of gameplay, and best of all the majority of them are coming to game pass day 1 for free. Nintendo had a great showing for sure but Xbox showed the most potential with its lineup of games. Nintendo would be second and PlayStation last. New Gears of War, Fable Gameplay and release next year, etc. All exciting stuff

Xbox had an amazing showcase and I’m so happy they finally have a strong lineup of upcoming games.
That said, isn’t it a bit premature to be asking this question given Sony hasn’t had a showcase this year? Would it have been appropriate to ask this same question back in April or May when MS hadn’t had their showcase? IGN knows exactly what they’re doing 😅

Nintendo. Nintendo has not only been dominating this gen with units sold, attach rate, library, etc... but Sony and Microsoft have kind of freely admitted they have no major releases until the middle of next year.
Ps5 has, what, five exclusives? Nearly four years in? Same with the Xbox. Meanwhile, the Switch is just building their library with more exclusives, and the Switch will cross 150 million units sold by years end.
It's going to be the biggest selling system ever made... and with a straight face, y'all ask, "So, who's winning?"

Ball is in Xbox's court with the strong showcase they just put out. Xbox has been slow going in recent years for exclusives, but looks stacked through 2026! Nintendo is likely to release the 'Switch 2' in the next 12 months which would have an impact. Playstation exclusive wise is light onin comparison to what fans have come to expect.
However, depends on how you define 'winning'. Are we talking sales or games? (IGN speaks towards games, however, companies speak dollars) PS5 has a large sales lead and console lead over Xbox Series to date. Even with the Xbox lineup is stronger in what we know, what sales will the next 12 months bring to Xbox in comparison to PS or Nintendo? Nintendo has a chance to ramp sales up with new console drop. Plus, Nintendo has over 140 Million consoles in the environment.
Hopefully the real winner is the people! Great games and experiences to come
