    Honestly had no idea he was that good when he played. The vast majority of his career is from before my time. Only knew he was a player from his tough side being mentioned by the Arizona commentators roughly every 3 seconds. So this was really enlightening.

    My favorite player growing up. My dad had a poster of him in our basement, and when I asked who was that (I was 5) he said "that is Rick Tocchet, you don't mess with Rick Tocchet" then he pulled out vhs tapes of some of his fights and that was my introduction to hockey. I've been a flyers fan ever since and wore the number 22 on every jersey in every sport I played.

    • @Rometiklan
      @Rometiklan 2 года назад +1

      I wasn't a Flyers fan but I liked Tocchet. I also had tapes of NHL fights and Tocchet was in a lot of those highlights. He wasn't a true heavyweight like Probert, but he was one of the fastest punchers I ever saw. Heard Tocchet beat up Lindros over some alleged shenanigans involving Brind'Amour's wife.

    Rick grew up just around the corner from me in Scarborough.
    His brand of hockey was the way we all played back then.
    Al Arbour lived on his street briefly in the early 60's
    And Tim Horton lived a few blocks away
    They were the ( O6 ) days.

As a player liked him as soon as he touched the ice. I wanted to play like him if I had played more. Liked him more than Cam. If Lindros had stayed with Quebec he would have been up there..He was the most dominant player I had ever seen. Rick took on everyone back in the day. Even head butted Probert a couple times. Was a great power forward. One of the bestever. In my opinion.

    Few things. #1, the only hockey jersey I(still) own is my Tocchet #22 Flyers jersey, the same one you're wearing in this video except I have the "A" on mine. #2, he is a vastly underrated player probably because it's easy to overlook his accomplishments because of the players around him. In Philly with the likes of Propp, Kerr, Howe, Zezel not to mention he was an enforcer of sorts. IMO one of the best fighters in NHL history. Then in Pittsburgh being overshadowed by Lemieux and Jagr. #3, I think the gambling scandal is what's keeping him out of the hall of fame. Even though he wasn't betting hockey(it was football) gambling is frowned upon in pro sports, at least it used to be. Now betting services are being advertised but I digress. IMO he has the numbers to be a hall of famer. He's certainly one of my favorite Flyers of all time. And Fun Fact: He had 72 penalty minutes during the 1987 NHL playoffs. Not one penalty minute came as a result of the pre-game brawl in game 6 against Montreal.

    I recall Tocchet's time in L.A. That was during the whole Gretzky-the-de facto-GM era. Robitaille had some choice words about Gretzky and lots of fans felt the Kings got short-changed, that Tocchet wasn't enough for a scorer like Robitaille. A year later, they went through the whole thing again when Gretzky insisted that the Kings had to acquire better players to "win now" or else he'd go to free agency, hence the trade of Tocchet for Kevin Stevens.
