This is an absolutely brilliant show. Every episode is a gem. The dialogue is perfect, the screenplay plausible and characterisations utterly believable. This is exactly how the Australian sense of humour works. Understatement, sarcasm and irony.
I have had people comment to me how they thought they actually had a Motor Neuron Disease actor playing Bruce, and shocked to hear that it was just acting by Nicholas.
As 60yo Aussie Male, Mr Inbetween is THE Best thing I have seen come out of Australia ever. I've seen all of it 4 times just so I can pick up on the things I missed before. It had me glued to the screen. By the way, Lacey all the way LOL
Mr. Inbetween really describes Ray's character to a T. He is almost a truly decent bloke, loves his kid, loves his mates, will help out anyone who needs it. He is almost a total psychopath, has no qualms shooting someone or bashing them if he believes they deserve it or if he is being paid to do it. He truly is stuck in between. As you continue to watch the show, you will see how this dichotomy plays out in his life. It really is a superbly written and acted series. As for the love interest between the two characters, totally understandable. Many girls like bad boys, and while he hasn't done anything in her presence to directly show her he is a bad boy, there is a certain menace in the way he carries himself. As for him, he is craving someone that can help tip him back to the decent side of the ledger. Love the reactions so far, genuine and heartfelt. Well done.
Ray is decent. What he's not is a self censor. He's thoughtful, and he is deliberate with his actions after having made a decision that lines up with his values.
I watched Justified after watching this and have a whole new appreciation for the acting talents of Damon Herriman (Ray's boss in this). Couldn't believe it was the same guy.
Love that people are getting into this show and the dry Aussie humour that goes with it. It's an absolute rollercoaster of a show. Possibly the best Australian show ever made.

Freddie aka Damon Herriman played Charles Manson in both Mindhunter and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He serious actor with big cred . Brooke Satchwell is well known soap actor and celebrity . The match up with Ray was a big ask but she could pull it off as she very natural looking and very down to earth person.
Just realised Freddie is the same actor who played Dewey in Justified!😄 And kudos for spotting the bad pool shot, that always annoys me as well, a pool scene in a bar and the players are rubbish I'm always like WTF?😅

I’m both surprised and very impressed that you seemed to have no trouble understanding the Aussie Accent. Especially as Ray has working class accent which perhaps some find hard to interpret. Most Americans seem to struggle with it, sometimes more than a little. The irony is that the accent is quite similar to a sort of US Southern drawl at times. Anyway what a fantastic series. Kath and Kim is a comfort show of mine that I've rewatched too many times to count - so that probably is why I don't struggle with the accent :) And not to burst the bubble of hope that the show is gaining a following in the U.S., but I'm sorry to say I'm from the consistently forgotten about country that is Canada. So I'm probably not the best source on that one lol ;)
So, just watched all 3 season in a day or so off the basis of this (cheers). Damon Herriman (club boss) is worth watching in almost anything he's in - although, all the actors in this are great.
Ray is a complex character, and his relationships with the people he loves is even more so! This show is funny, dramatic, and a little sad at times! The series is based on a 2005 film called The Magician. There is a reference to this in season 3! 😆
