- Episode 5: Hard Worker
People are not always who and what they appear to be, and a good, strong name is important. Also, it's important to always lock a car when leaving it.
Episode 6: Your Mum's Got a Strong Box
A nutritious breakfast is the key to good health, as is looking in the trunk before stealing a car; people say they like surprises, but that is debatable.
"Mr Inbetween" is a half-hour comedy series inspired by the cult film "The Magician" and centers around Ray Shoesmith. Juggling a relationship, parental responsibilities, friendships and a sick brother while earning a living would be difficult for anyone, but it's particularly difficult for Ray since he's a criminal for hire. Ray "takes care of people" -- collecting debts, relieving them of drugs and guns, and often taking care of them on a more permanent basis. Ray demands respect and does not tolerate it when someone disregards his very clear code of ethics.
Directed by Nash Edgerton
Starring: Scott Ryan, Damon Herriman, Brooke Satchwell and Justin Rosniak

You are so pretty, enjoy watching your reactions 👍
@@stevewonder9523 Thank you ☺
@@chrissiereacts Wait till you get to season 3 and the very last episode. Brilliant
its so good yaa.. and it actually end
You seem to be liking the Aussie crime dramas. You should also check out "Underbelly", specifically the first season. There are several seasons but the first season is spectacular, and all based on true stories.
The dialogue between the characters is so damn perfect. A lot of standard aussie TV shows on primetime don't feel like real conversations.. But this show does it perfectly, they all feel like regular people you would run into. Which is also what makes them scary characters.
yes! its why british and Australian films are so much better that american films, they speak more realistic. look for a film on youtube called dead mans shoes. its one of my favorite films. you will not be disappointed.
Exactly 💯 that's what makes this show so great imo. Regular joes having regular convos as it would be in real life here in Australia
spot on , why i love the show 🫡
The dialogue is absolutely perfect for Australia. Completely realistic.
Dont agree
@@chrisbuesnell3428 Care to explain? Or do you just prefer the laziest possible reply?
Dimmie is slang for Dim Sim which is such a good dumpling, they were super popular during the gold rush in Australias history and have stuck around since then!
Your incorrect!!! Celebrity chef Elizabeth Chong's dad came up with the creation of dim sims around mid 1940s in Melbourne
@@imGlobL Good to know man, learnt what I thought was the case decent while back on a school trip to Bathurst so must've mixed them up! cheers for the clarification mate!
@@imGlobL Yes this is true ...
Fried are good but I’d prefer boiled with soy sauce 😍 good snack
@@Julius.H23do you mean steamed? Never boiled one or heard of that being done
Season 2-3 just keep getting better and better
Lots of twists and turns to come yet.
I’m really enjoying watching this with you.
So thank you 😊
Me too 😄
One of my favourite shows. So rapt that you are really enjoying it. Seasons 2 and 3 are just as good
Ray was known as "The Magician" because he made people disappear. Mr. Inbetween is a masterpiece. The script writing and acting are second to none.
Yeah, the original character of Ray Shoesmith was created for the film "The Magician" which was made by the actor who plays Ray when he was a film student. It's a weird movie as it follows a documentary maker who is following and recording Ray as he carries out his business. Ray is too young in that movie though, so for me it doesn't really work that well. The character is much more believable in his forties with his military background and lived experiences.
Funnily enough he's only ever referred to as The Magician once in all three seasons of this show, and that's by another character from the shady underworld that we only see once towards the end of season 3.
@@nickmaclachlan5178 I can't remember which episode it was, but it was when Ray went to see the bloke who Freddie owed money to. His minder was reminded of the fact that Ray was "The Magician". Scott Ryan plays the role of Ray.
Also in the magician he was a Melbourne hitman so threw me a bit years later when this came out and all his ties are in Sydney suburbs.
@@fenderengland Especially as he dies at the end of the Magician too...
@@KevPage-Witkicker He kinda had to, what sort of hitman would allow a documentary of him killing people to be aired? It defeats the object of flying under the radar slightly eh? (was trying to avoid spoilers in my post, but that bird's flown now!) lol.
For context the chat they have about Quentin is THE funniest thing I have ever heard, The boy he references Quentin was a late Australian actor/director (mad max Fury road) who touched the hearts of every Australian when he was interviewed on our 60 mins(I think or similar) as a little boy living with a brittle bone condition. He did indeed make the interviewer cry. Oh and "Dimmies" are sort of like an asian wonton with a pork mince filling deep fried and sold in fast food fish n chip shops in Australia.
Agreed, and yeah we Aussies give shit to those we like (a good ribbing). It's a deep dive into our character. I also like to think he's having a bit of a dig at Tarantino for his "authentic dialogue" trope.
A Dimmy is a Dim Sim :) its kind of like a Dumpling. Very popular Take-out snack in Australia
Not sure you could say popular in New Zealand as I don’t ever recall seeing dim sims here, although you do find a lot of dumpling shops. Maybe similar to how New Zealanders don’t use the terms potato cake or potato scallop either, we have potato fritters.
@@skipintroux4444and you also have some very good meat pies, I’d say better than Aus. That volcanic soil really adds somethiny
@skipintroux4098 oh my mistake. I'm aussie and was just assuming you guys had dim sims aswell
@@FumeXEdits Why would you find it necessary to include New Zealand anyway??
I dont know 😅 I made an assumption on that, I will admit. I apologise
Correct on the "Jack or Dog" as Jack = Police and Dog = Informant
I need to work on my Aussie slang.
Started following after the chopper review, i love your reaction to our aussie humor
Matt Noble's 'Quentin' dialogue in the car was almost entirely improvised from what I read. So many real naturals in the cast. Australian drama often casts from a shallow group of regulars so it's refreshing to see other lesser known but talented actors getting a chance.Keep at it lady. It gets so much better.
You have good sense of humor, I'll give you Honorary Aussie Citizenship.
Top sort...
Good sheila 🎉
I'll take it! 😁
epicly underrated show
Knew this show would have it's hooks in you soon enough, Chrissie. Scott Ryan (Ray) has a great ear for Aussie banter, that Quentin convo is an absolute pearler. And yes, the show only gets better.
Hey man, I like your name
Ray wasn’t digging a grave but more like a bunker.
💯😄
This is the best comedy drama EVER! Done all 3 seasons a while ago in a binge , haven’t stopped telling people to watch it since & it gets sooooo good and has a brilliant ending. Also liking the reaction side, as a limey, seeing how you perceive the culture without messing with the flow. Keep going, you won’t regret it 😀
Our local mitre 10 hardware store on the telly. Haha on ya Ray... great show. 👍
Brit here, love this series, so accurate to Aussie talk. "Jack or Dog". "Dimme' and of course the brave "Quetin." Best to come out of Aus. in decades. Just going take the piss out my name--- you'll have to be original, heard them all!
Still season one, and you’re already on the side of the killer… 😂
Exactly what I was thinking, you can’t help but love Ray, you shouldn’t really but you do…
Every season is fantastic. Mr. Inbetween is a masterpiece and it's great to see you enjoying it. Regards, from a biased Aussie.
After watching the entire series. You'll want to go back and watch it all again. The seasons just get better.
I have watched it three times now. The episodes/slice of life format just makes it fly by like no time has passed at all.
Mr In between , one of the greatest serries i have seen.
The actor who played Dave, Matt Nable, At the time had a brother with Motor Neuron Disease, and it is my own personal suspicion that he also had a hand in guiding the Actor for Bruce with the effects of Motor Neuron Disease.
Here is an Interview with Matt going in to GREAT detail about the disease and what it did to his Brother. ruclips.net/video/Dvz4ThAQM1M/видео.html
"It's only business Raymond" and Ray judged it as such when it was time to drop bodies. Just another working man. 😆
Dimmies!! This is the most amazing show. The writing is amazing and the production really reflects Australia. Amazing writing.
Give Boy who swallowed a universe when you get a chance a really good little Aussie show
No it's not.
@@74allnitewhat? It’s a great Aussie show. What are you saying? it’s not a great show or it’s not an Aussie show
@@andywalker8645 both. I gave it a chance and was a lot of hype and some big favorite names but it just failed. After school special unrealistic only in for the shock aspect. Over the top and i don't think it was really made for Australian audience but more just for endless Netflix catalogue . Too mainstream and too much irrelevent from "the camera shouldn't be a character " moments.
nope. Was no The Boys or Animal Kingdom.
I hadn't been this dissapointed since The Postcard Bandit
I don't want to get binge, I've got too many streaming services. So this is where I get to watch the show, with a gorgeous gal too.
So happy you like this. Aussie drama makes US drama seem so unrealistic!
HOLY CRAP!! You're watching Mr Inbetween? Excellent. Legitimately one of THE greatest television shows EVER made. The writing, the acting, the directing, the cinematography, everything about it is top grade. The show is absolutely brilliant. Ray Shoesmith is an incredibly fascinating and well written character. Deep and complex in some ways, simple and straight forward in others. He's just a bloody interesting and entertaining bloke.
Its incredibly hard to find, but you need to go back and watch "The Magician". Its the mocumentary film that formed the basis for Rays character. It was a film he made as a student and entered it into a film festival where it was received very well and gained a lot of praise. With a small budget, he reshot it and extended it. It also served as the pilot to get FX to pick it up and fund the show. It is really good. "The Magician" is Ray's moniker in the criminal underworld. He's named as such because he makes people disappear.
I had the exact same reactions when I watched these episodes. This show is brilliant all the way to the end. Even the very final scene is brilliant.
The thing with Ray is he lives life like a grandmaster playing chess...he's always two moves ahead of everyone else!
As good as it is, it also show how psycho he is. He has a normal conversation while burying 4 bodies like he was gardening. I love him, but he is a psycho.
I love the satisfying moments you get throughout Mr Inbetween. Love it and miss it. As a Scotsman we share a lot of humour
Every episode of every season is a banger! I binged watched every season in 3 nights! Had to! So good! 😂
Jack is a cop,a dog is an informant,so yes pretty smart!
Came here to let you know what a "Dimmie" is, but that is more than covered 😄
Loving you & your channel found this show. Interesting back story to this show. I remember seeing a short movie version of this (shot in / around Melbourne) at our short film festival many years before (2005). Still available on RUclips, called 'The Magician'.
Thinking about it, you may love to watch (the original) Underbelly series (dramatization about Melbourne Gangland crimes).
Great show hey,so glad you are enjoying more Australian gold. Thankyou
I have watched this series 3x still love it - has messages in it about life and how it affects us. Our actions and reactions etc. I am glad you still enjoying it. Australian classic.
Love your channel, reactions, personality... and all our Aussie stuff you watch :)
Thank you!!
Brilliant finale as you said... went out with a bang!

4:04 My workplace used to go to the Sefton Playhouse for lunch, back in the early 90's. Food was pretty rough, but that's not why they chose that place. ; )
This show hooked me by ep 2 and i binged the whole 2 seasons. So underrated
Dim sim with soy sauce or sweet Thai chilli sauce 🤤
First preference is a steamed dim sim over a fried one.
Scitt the main actor is actually the producer and writer .Ray is the best .We live in Sydney and the shots are all around us.
I really like your vibe Chrissie
you are amazing, you seem real, and down to earth! your reactions come across as genuine! not to mention that you are beautiful! subbed 100%
Great episode, by chance one of the stunt crew visited our farm!
It may be one of the best TV shows ever in my opinion. and Season 2 and 3 only get better!
Out of the three seasons these two episodes have to be the funniest .
Great Aussie series , nothing on Australian tv came this close for reality and humour for years before it .
I like how he was always digging their hole in the ground
It is excellently written and well acted, so glad you get it and enjoy it 🇭🇲
‘Dimmies’, not demmies. Dimmies are ‘dim sims’, a Chinese-style dumpling. Steamed or fried. Usually accompanied by soy sauce. And yes, ‘jack’ and ‘dog’ = cop and informant…

Arrow I believe he was in
I love your reaction I’ve watched this series about ten time since it came out, can’t believe it’s not better know, season two is good but three is just amazing.
It gets better. I loved the show came across it by accident a few years back.
Love your reactions. You laugh in all the right places. Plus you have such a beautiful smile 😊
he's like the Aussie version of Liam Neeson in Taken. completely unstoppable. so good
Season 1+2+3 is the best. The only sad thing is no Season 4 😢 the Ray character is the Actor/Director/Writer/Producer of the whole series and he said in a interview that he's done with this series because he achieved what he wanted to do with the series and he's working on other stuff so who knows what he gonna come up with next. He even won the highest award at 2 or 3 award ceremony and he wasn't there to receive the awards because he wasn't interested in that sort of stuff, basically he's like Eminem of the film industry if you get what I mean.
Nash Edgerton is the director and co producer.
Later I realized his ex-wife's husband's name is Quentin hahahaha!
Yes!! Haha, I noticed it while I was editing and it made this scene so much funnier lol
@@chrissiereacts yes this show heap of these little things you pick up second time. Gary ( Justin Rosniak ) character develops so well as a writer you can only dreamof creating something like him.

a lot of Americans cant understand the dialogue because they're actually talking like they really talk in Australia. Chrissie ,have you done Wentworth? holy cow, you will love that series?
When it came out bugger all people watched it, I couldn't believe it.....I loved it!
It's the best tv of the last 5 years.
"Dimmies" are dim sims. They either steam or deep fry them. You eat the steamed with soy sauce and the deep fried straight. Yes the next couple of seasons are as good if not better. I'm only spewing they haven't made a fourth.
I've never heard a dim sim called a dimmie, so it'd be his personal slang for it. Like I call a lap top a lappy. You could basically add a y or ie onto a first syllable.
Dimmies have been part of Aussie lexicon since the 80's.
@@OttoMack1 Is that a Melbourne thing ? I feel like some dimmies now.
I guess is all over now due to the success of this series, well done to the creator.
@@BeamRider100 You're pulling my leg, mate. Nah "Dimmy/s" is the nomenclature Australia wide. If you're Aussie and you've been to a fish n chip shop you'd have seen em on the menu board. Hell, Marathon stocks dimmies at Coles/Woolies in all states.
Expand your horizons and increase your cholesterol, your patriotism demands it!
So well written.
Even the bit where he conveniently stumbles Into the dimmie shop the bogans are in.
In any Hollywood context it’s just a contrivance, but the narrative is so compelling it’s not something I even really considered the first time around.
Brilliant storytelling
Just found your channel Chrissie as this is one my fave shows of all time, even has a 97% rating on rotten tomatoes. Here is some useless trivia for you:
- Universally if you liked season 1, season 2 is a bit darker as he develops more as a character but it is better. Season 2 and 3 are better than 1.
- Without giving too much away you will see some characters develop more, It is a deeper darker season but it is still better. Monsters is my favourite episode of season 2, it is extremely dark and the main plot is clear in retrospect but watch it closely because the subplots with light moments I burst out laughing and reflected on how well that episode was written and how the title of the episode was clear for the main plot, all these sub plots in it referred to the title. But you will just have to wait til you get to that one :-) It is like how you spotted this last episode was a comedy of errors but so well done and the hiliarity of having a strong box with money, buying an oxy cutter to open it then purchasing that metal ruler to use on a car. And the episode title is Mum's got a strong box, so it references more than the strong box they get from his mum's house by a very cheeky reference to wife being in labour at the end of the episode. So cleverly ties in the titles of the episodes to multiple things within.
Onto a bunch of other random stuff about Series 1 and these episodes you watched and the series as a whole
- Dimi is a crumbed delicacy in the shape of a dumpling and is made up of all the bits, and I mean all the bits, of left over beef etc. It's a cheap and nasty thing to cook up, I am sure there is an american equivalent, fatty yucky but somehow culturally accepted piece of food
- Scott Ryan the main actor is the person who developed this series, his own project, writer, producer etc, a one man band. He has been living this life writing this type of character for 20 years to get this series to happen.
- His inspiration was the series Sopranos
- Character names and the dialogue was all meticulously developed by him, including the dark but believable hitman persona and all the dark humour the series has
- A 2005 indie film called the Magician, is like a film version of this series, it is indie quality and obviously a younger version of Scott. Pretty raw and certainly not the same production quality but when you watch all three Mr IB (inbetween) series I watched it, felt like a poor quality prequel but it was still quite engaging and you can see how Scott Ryan's film project back then has developed into this series
- Nash Edgerton is the Director of Mr IB, he is the brother of well known australian actor Joel Edgerton. So the duo of Scott and Nash are together for the whole three seasons which just makes it so much more cohesive from start to finish
- the banter in the car when Character Ray and (as you said his new founded buddy at the end of the season) Dave when they are talking about kids and which is better boy or girl was actually a short few words. But the actor who plays Dave (known to be a real life improviser in acting roles) decided to improvise the scene more on the first take, including the bit about Quentin. So that whole scene was never in the script, it was fully improvised and Scott's (as Ray) laughter at the name Quentin is real because he nearly lost it in the takes. It was so natural and funny they kept it in the film. And yes you will see Dave again.
PS: I love how you are watching this and can see how cleverly and well flowed this TV series is and how Scott has injected so much dry humour into his creation. It is not just about say burying a body but it is all the bit about how its done what goes on around him etc etc
Not me using the calculator cheeking if 160 000 divided by two was actually 80 000 to see if he was trying to fool his not so smart partner. I was pleasantly happy by the answer :) He is a bad guy, but a good guy rly XD

A Dimmie is a Dim Sim which is a steamed or fried chinese Dumpling.. A chinese immigrant who owned a Take Away (fish and chip shop) decided to introduce the chinese dumpling as a lunch time snack for workers but they didnt really prove very popular... Then one day he deep fried one and the working class loved them.. He named them Dim Sims... As you may have realised Aussies shorten everything so Dim Sims soon became Dimmys.. They are a staple Take Away meal here in Australia. A Jack is a cop but the word Jack for cops is usually a term used in Victoria or Melbourne.. Not as common in the northern states. . and a Dog is an informant and is a universal term used all over Australia.
