I TRANSFORMED this ABANDONED house and the NEIGHBORS thought I was CRAZY

  • This house makes the neighborhood look horrible. It's the 2nd house right when you drive in and the yard hadn't been mowed in quite some time. I knocked on the door hoping someone would answer, but after speaking with the neighbor, I found out that it was abandoned. I pulled out all the stops trying to contact the owner with no luck. After about 2 weeks, I decided to take it into my own hands...

I remember during the recession of '08-'09, we had three foreclosures on our block. In the Spring, summer, and fall, my neighbors and I took turns caring for the landscaping to keep it clean. We even cleared the driveways and walkways when it snowed. Seems like a "lost art" these days. Thanks for bringing it back SB Mowing! Great job!

@@Robdutton91 yes I agree Rob. I may have worded it wrong. I guess most of my experience with hard workers comes from my daughter's (25) generation. She is a very hard worker but when I see most of her friends and classmate's doing the same thing they did in high school its kind of hard to look at the whole picture. They are either doing drugs or still riding their bicycles around town. By this time in their life they should have at least 8 years of work or training or going to college. I just wonder how they are gonna ever going to move forward. Some of them still live with mom and dad and don't have to work. I do still have faith for the generations to come but it's wearing pretty thin. JS

Hey Spencer: thank you for your kindness & generosity. Not only did you make the property look better, you also minimized the likelihhood of vermin infestation. Years ago I moved in with my sister in Dallas, TX in a house situated next to an untended corner lot. Before I got there my sister had recurring problems with intruders & ENORMOUS rats getting into the house. The grass & weeds had grown to 5+ feet high, which provided cover for both types of pests. I bought a used lawn mower & started keeping the lot mowed which eliminated the problems. Again, thank you for your loving service. You did MUCH more than just make the property look pretty; you literally made the neighborhood safer.

This reminds me of an experience I had in the late 1980’s. We bought a house in a new subdivision and there were a few lots left vacant. Most of the neighbors took decent care of their yards but the sidewalk was ignored and started growing monster weeds. I went around the whole subdivision (60 houses) spraying Roundup on the weeds in the sidewalk, and a couple of days later I went out and pulled or dug them all out. Even the vacant lots looked better! The neighbors all thought I was nuts but eventually I noticed that several sections of sidewalk were now being kept up by someone other than me. So even though some people didn’t like what I was doing, others were inspired by it. That was a big win!

I'd love to live in that old house. They don't make them like that any more 🤗❤👍🏾🌼🌻👏🏾
