This guy is a living legend. I recently reached out to him to help support and inspire my Dad to go through some important medical procedures that he was scared of and refusing. I didn't expect much but 2 days later he called Dad and managed to convince him. He has told me to call him anytime Dad needs anything. Completely blown away by his generosity of spirit. Furthermore he lives by the principals. Never miss the chance to inspire.

At almost the lowest point in my life ramdomly came across this speech. Not in a battlefield but my mine field was jobless, spouse very delicate brain sugery, son hit by a car, did not see how to move forward. Was going to have to give up our home but had to find a way to keep it. Had to fix the home by myself to get a loan. Took 2½ years to secure the loan. All repairs done by me. Got all done but the last step was repairing roof. I skitterred all over the roof repairing securing the tiles. Trimmed trees by standing on the roof. At last done & came down my ladder but............woke up on ground head bleeding ............. just stood up blood streaming my sides. Went inside washed the blood off & immediately continued sanding the house im prep for painting. My car blew the seals so only way to get groceries was walk. Did that made dinner. That night though was in pain like I never knew ~ my back was screaming ~ allowed myself tylenol ~ next day I knew had to keep painting ~ had to finish pullng all the weeds out of the yard & trim all the bushes prune all bushes. Got my inspection got my loan. Continued to walk 3-4 miles daily for groceries carried on my back til 2 years later but started to fall down a lot. Then in March too much lack of balance & pain. Well keep going. Do not have good medical care so tough it out. I do not like canes but finally gave in a month ago though with my momentum just start running without the cane. Keep moving. Keep moving. Keep moving. Yard is a mess again plumbing needs repair roof needs more repair ....... but McRaven's tinder resonates through my inner sanctum ~ keep moving keep moving keep moving ~ ride over pain like surfing a huge wave 🌊🏄‍♀️ keep moving keep moving keep moving ~ 🪜🧗‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏃‍♂️🦘

My father was a sergeant in the US Army before I was born. One of the things he taught me when I was very young was to make my bed. He wasn't mean about it, didn't yell at me when I did a bad job, but it stuck in my head. The Admiral is right, that simple task was the start of a disciplined, fulfilling life.

I was really struggling during those times. I needed help finding the courage deep down to refuse to let go of my visions, to see the light in the distance. When McRaven mentions that there was “no ambient light”, that really resonated with me.
I applied underqualified and out of state to UT Austin specifically mentioning my story listening this and how it kept me moving forward. To my surprise ended up getting in.

And you shall not be forgotten. The beds around the world will remember your deeds for generations to come.

Im pretty grown up and marrried, but i did start making my bed only a few months ago when i first saw this vid. Plus, it got me interested in the training he speaks about which i then studied. And while studying i learned, and i bought more books, and studied more, and got involved in the physiscs and psycology of it all.
And now, guess what, i have a completely new perception of my phisical and mental limits, or lack of thereofs.
In the end it is my credit, but this speech ultimately got me to become a better person.

I have no words to actually thanks Admiral McRaven for these speech. Neither I can describe how much he transform my life, because these video came to me in a "hell of a week". Five years ago, Puerto Rico was hit by "Hurricane María". My life as I knew it was shattered and I felt deeply in pain and lost. But somehow his speech inspired me to moved forward by taking care of others, in a way I never experienced before. Afterwards,
I had heard this speech over 20 times and I had shared it twice as much.
Last week, Hurricane #Fiona hits us in a way I didn't expected. Like a "mantra" I repeated to myself, "you must be calm, you must be composed". Every minute of last weekend, felted awful and disorienting, but I remembered McRaven's voice..."you must be calm, you must be composed", words that helped me to be focused and aware of my inner self. Right know, I don’t really know what's next. But I do know that " I need to be calm and composed". I also know, that it's time to summons all my strength, abilities and knowledge to swim through these "sharks" or be ready to "punch them in their snouts", metaphorically speaking. I honestly believe that McRavens experiences, change my mindset and world through all these years.
I respectfully salute the Admiral and I'm thankful for his service. Blessings 🙌
