Watching Gohan turn into ssj2 for the first time back in the day on TV was so surreal, it was such a Heartfelt legendary moment that resonated with a lot of his fans and even non fans in general, especially when you were there with him at the beginning of his Journey, you cant deny the growth he went through from when he was kidnapped by radditz, to fighting nappa and vegeta, Going to namek, Getting involved in more life threatening fights, especially against frieza, as a child. And then the android saga came along with the cell arc, that's where he truly peaked, and let his true power thats been foreshadowed the whole time finally explode. Despite what many people say about him after the Cell arc, i personally think he is still the same awesome gohan we all knew and loved, especially when he is finally being given the spotlight nowdays. Too bad Akira died so soon... I really wanted to see all the way through the end with him, i hope he knows his legacy will live on for many decades to come, for eternity. I mean that's deff part of it...but he is also very sad. And gets even more sad when his dad dies. Also he lost his innocence a long time ago. This is merely him letting go of restraint and feeling his saiyan blood's full potential for more than five seconds.
it is a common misconception that gohan is crying due to the death of 16 and abandoning of his morals. the real reason gohan is crying is because he has read the manga and knows this is the last time he will ever be useful/ important.

@@dankerbell I think he's a warrior for peace rather than a martial individual like Goku or Vegeta. Goku still fights either way but Gohan fights because he has to. I think that's the root of his explosive power rather than being his weakness. Also Future Trunk's human heart doesn't hold him back.

Whilst the English translation for the lyrics got most of the it right, but it is missing out some subtle details due the not the best choice of words and some lyrics were missed out translation completely, otherwise it would have been better or more accurate reflect the details of what's basically summing up the state of emotion that Gohan was in at that moment.

***** Hi, I'm from Hungary too. No in our country was not exatly banned. It happened an accident, a young boy jumped out a windows and died, cause he thought he can fly, just like Goku. And later, the television company took the show at late night, and nobody viewed the anime and they took it off the program... Sad story, but true...

The others have been jumping out of the windows thinking the Nimbus is going to come save them. It didn't. But I remember there was a lot of petition for it to come back.. We just weren't lucky. And that's how I met all the other dubs. German, latinamerican, english, and my favorite the japanese.
Disservice to Gohan. He finally became the saviour the world needed him to become. The saviour Piccolo, Trunks and Goku always knew him to be. Not a ruthless killer but a hero with a will of iron.
Ah yes as the person who had never killed before murdered the monsters trying to wipe out the galaxy and were stronger than everyone else. The people of earth could only ask "why are you such a merciless killer", and "why are you so ruthless", as the child destroyed the things that literally only existed to kill people.
I'm still waiting to see something that comes close to the level of epicness of this momment. Everything in the scene work. The music with the bird flying, the expression of utter shock on Gohan's face. The AMAZING scream followed by one of the most hair raising power explosions i've ever seen. The expressions of friends and foes alike in awe by the raw power they are witnessing and how they all just stopped fighting just to watch what the hell just happened. Even Cell's expression of "oh shit..." is on point. Then the music rises and we approach the climax seeing Gohan's power and hair standing up from Cell's perspective and then the climax is here... the music and the scene arrive at their most epic momment and we see Gohan's tears of anger rising instead of falling on his face because of the power he's releasing. This is the coolest display of anger and power I"ve ever seen in anime until today. After a while, the music dies down and we see the tears dry up and Gohan puts an even angrier face as if he was saying: "Alright... crying time is over, time to fuck this guy up." Wow... I can see everything so clearly in my head... I've watched this scene countless times.

In my opinion, I don't really feel that this song fits this moment. It feels more like an ending theme. But I will agree about The letting him talk to himself. Although, I don't really mind it, it just makes more sense that he snapped unlike the English version, that you already can tell his anger is building up.
Damn, since i heard the sad new, i'm listening all those legendary songs. I hope that Mr Toriyama can feel how much he counted for us, across the world. The hero he created inspire us until to this day, and our imagination is partially built thanks to the worlds he drawn with such passion. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Akira Toriyama. The tears... The loss of morals and all of the feelings that held him back, that kept him human... All dissapearing in the blink of an eye to do what he couldn't alone. All the fear and sorrow that chained him down replaced with rage and bitterness, he was no longer the child that would never hurt willingly. He became a monster fuled by rage and hate, all with the intent to bring about suffering upon any who would dare stand in his way. I can't imagine how much that must have terrified Gohan, knowing that he had that inside of him, that at any given moment he could return to that pit of dispair that is his loss of compassion. And yet... He never gave up on trying for the life he loved, he lost many things along the way, but his dream was never one of them. I can see why many hate the fact that he wished to stop fighting, but has anyone considered whether or not he ever wanted to, to begin with?
zekromfan1 gohan was an [everyman] growing to become a [paragon]. Acquiring morals and skills, values, virtues and principles along the way. It's not throwing away his moral, but maturing it. Like Aragorn who launched a desperate atk to Sauron just to give Frodo a chance to live long enough to fulfill his mission.
I meant in the sense that he had to disgard them to become something he always feared from Frieza and the Ginyu Force. The fear of an overwhelming power that was used only to hurt, a power he gained to protect but he could only see through a red mist. His anger overcame him as he digsrded his morals, toying and torturing Cell even as his friends and family shouted at him to end it. He may not have thrown them all away, but the morals that he had to protect and save got lost in his overwhelming desire to hurt. Thus the tears that rolled down his face may not have been the morals that he discarded in the blazing heat of his anger, but they may as well have been. It was scary even for him, but what overcame his fear was his rage. A rage that was amplifed by SSJ2 and Super Saiyan in general as it uses your anger to power the user. But you are right his morals weren't lost that day, they only matured and grew overtime and because of it. He never once threw away his morals or his goals for good, but he had to toss them to control or at least use the power that he gained. He changed for the betterment of himself and his family.
zekromfan1 loss of morals and disregard for them mean the same. He did not lose anything, he acquired more experience and evolved them, they are still there, but more complete and mature.
Yes but not at the time of the fight, are you refering to afterward or at the time before Goku died. Because the whole reason that Goku died was because Gohan didn't listen and because of his morals being as they were he only wanted to make Cell suffer rather than defeat him and ending the fight. His morals were never disgarded for good if anything what I should have said was they were clouded. His anger was what caused everything to become what they were, after Goku died he saw what he was doing thus he "beat himself up" and lost all faith in his own abilities. It was Goku who snapped him out of it and it was Gohan who regained what he had lost and learned from it. To paraphrase, his morals were never lost more rather they were only temporarily compromised.
zekromfan1 it wasn't the morals, he lacked the resolve. Which came after many traumatic experiences, and experience comes from suffering. Allow me to use Romans 5:4 to further explain the inner conflicts of the soul and our struggle with life and its predicaments: "we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that *suffering produces perseverance; perseverance,character; and character, hope*" We all suffer, but through experiencing it we have a chance to learn and grow. So it wasn't his morals, he was learning from his experiences until this moment. Moment he undestood he had to fight evil for the sake of good.
Here after the Sparking Zero trailer. It really gets you in the feels. I remember first watching this episode on the International Channel in Japanese and for me had a bigger impact than the English Dub.

Tamashii vs Tamashii, means "Spirit vs Spirit" or "Soul Vs Soul" which, in the game Dragon Ball Z dokkan battle, there is a link skill for the cell games Z fighters such as buff trunks and super saiyan 2 gohan, and Perfect Cell is weak to characters who have the Soul vs. Soul link skill, or "Tamashii vs Tamashii"

Gohan was also supposed to be the main character after the cell saga but fans got butthurt when Goku was killed off so they brought him back. It wasn't a bad decision but I don't think having Gohan as the mc was bad either. Matter of fact, it would've given this scene a LOT more purpose since it basically was his uprising. They missed golden opportunities with his arc. I haven't seen the newer movie, but I hope they do his arc justice.
for real, I love bruce but unmei no hi is one of best produced songs by Japanese along with Ultimate battle, UI theme, Beerus theme, SSB theme and more in Dragon Ball Super. Bruce just carried DB all the way to the end of Kai except for Gohan's SS2 awakening.

In my opinion gohan and future trunks had the best transformation scenes in z because you can feel their sadness, anger and regrets. They burn for the justice and they faced grinning blood thirsty demons.

Jessica Klaus Because he was so badass here and then so useless in the Boo arc, even after he canonically became (for a long while) the strongest unfused character in the series. After this, the only use for his strength seemed to be to power up the villains, which he did during the Boo arc not once but twice. It just feels like - if you're going to make him that strong, give him something to do. And I always thought the message behind Gohan's massive potential was that mixing Saiyans and Humans gave you something that could be stronger than both - but in the end, pureblood Saiyans are still the only ones allowed to do anything important.

There was some accidents according to an urban legend. Some of them said the kids were actually thought they can stop the trains with their hands. The others have been jumping out of the windows thinking the Nimbus is going to come save them. It didn't. But I also heard it was banned due violence and stuff and try to play it at MIDNIGHT (retarded people). So all in all it didn't work out and there were the urban legends too. But I remember there was a lot of petition for it to come back.. We just weren't lucky. And that's how I met all the other dubs. German, latinamerican, english, and my favorite the japanese.
Gohan, the once sweet kid with a heart of gold, turned into a threatening, ruthless killer, thanks to Cell.
Disservice to Gohan. He finally became the saviour the world needed him to become. The saviour Piccolo, Trunks and Goku always knew him to be. Not a ruthless killer but a hero with a will of iron.
Ah yes as the person who had never killed before murdered the monsters trying to wipe out the galaxy and were stronger than everyone else. The people of earth could only ask "why are you such a merciless killer", and "why are you so ruthless", as the child destroyed the things that literally only existed to kill people.

I'm still waiting to see something that comes close to the level of epicness of this momment. Everything in the scene work. The music with the bird flying, the expression of utter shock on Gohan's face. The AMAZING scream followed by one of the most hair raising power explosions i've ever seen. The expressions of friends and foes alike in awe by the raw power they are witnessing and how they all just stopped fighting just to watch what the hell just happened. Even Cell's expression of "oh shit..." is on point. Then the music rises and we approach the climax seeing Gohan's power and hair standing up from Cell's perspective and then the climax is here... the music and the scene arrive at their most epic momment and we see Gohan's tears of anger rising instead of falling on his face because of the power he's releasing. This is the coolest display of anger and power I"ve ever seen in anime until today.
After a while, the music dies down and we see the tears dry up and Gohan puts an even angrier face as if he was saying: "Alright... crying time is over, time to fuck this guy up."
Wow... I can see everything so clearly in my head... I've watched this scene countless times.

In my opinion, I don't really feel that this song fits this moment. It feels more like an ending theme. But I will agree about The letting him talk to himself. Although, I don't really mind it, it just makes more sense that he snapped unlike the English version, that you already can tell his anger is building up.

The tears... The loss of morals and all of the feelings that held him back, that kept him human... All dissapearing in the blink of an eye to do what he couldn't alone. All the fear and sorrow that chained him down replaced with rage and bitterness, he was no longer the child that would never hurt willingly. He became a monster fuled by rage and hate, all with the intent to bring about suffering upon any who would dare stand in his way. I can't imagine how much that must have terrified Gohan, knowing that he had that inside of him, that at any given moment he could return to that pit of dispair that is his loss of compassion. And yet... He never gave up on trying for the life he loved, he lost many things along the way, but his dream was never one of them. I can see why many hate the fact that he wished to stop fighting, but has anyone considered whether or not he ever wanted to, to begin with?
zekromfan1 gohan was an [everyman] growing to become a [paragon]. Acquiring morals and skills, values, virtues and principles along the way. It's not throwing away his moral, but maturing it. Like Aragorn who launched a desperate atk to Sauron just to give Frodo a chance to live long enough to fulfill his mission.
I meant in the sense that he had to disgard them to become something he always feared from Frieza and the Ginyu Force. The fear of an overwhelming power that was used only to hurt, a power he gained to protect but he could only see through a red mist. His anger overcame him as he digsrded his morals, toying and torturing Cell even as his friends and family shouted at him to end it. He may not have thrown them all away, but the morals that he had to protect and save got lost in his overwhelming desire to hurt. Thus the tears that rolled down his face may not have been the morals that he discarded in the blazing heat of his anger, but they may as well have been.
It was scary even for him, but what overcame his fear was his rage. A rage that was amplifed by SSJ2 and Super Saiyan in general as it uses your anger to power the user. But you are right his morals weren't lost that day, they only matured and grew overtime and because of it. He never once threw away his morals or his goals for good, but he had to toss them to control or at least use the power that he gained. He changed for the betterment of himself and his family.
zekromfan1 loss of morals and disregard for them mean the same. He did not lose anything, he acquired more experience and evolved them, they are still there, but more complete and mature.
Yes but not at the time of the fight, are you refering to afterward or at the time before Goku died. Because the whole reason that Goku died was because Gohan didn't listen and because of his morals being as they were he only wanted to make Cell suffer rather than defeat him and ending the fight. His morals were never disgarded for good if anything what I should have said was they were clouded. His anger was what caused everything to become what they were, after Goku died he saw what he was doing thus he "beat himself up" and lost all faith in his own abilities. It was Goku who snapped him out of it and it was Gohan who regained what he had lost and learned from it. To paraphrase, his morals were never lost more rather they were only temporarily compromised.
zekromfan1 it wasn't the morals, he lacked the resolve. Which came after many traumatic experiences, and experience comes from suffering.
Allow me to use Romans 5:4 to further explain the inner conflicts of the soul and our struggle with life and its predicaments:
"we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that *suffering produces perseverance;
perseverance,character; and character, hope*"
We all suffer, but through experiencing it we have a chance to learn and grow.
So it wasn't his morals, he was learning from his experiences until this moment. Moment he undestood he had to fight evil for the sake of good.
Here after the Sparking Zero trailer. It really gets you in the feels. I remember first watching this episode on the International Channel in Japanese and for me had a bigger impact than the English Dub.

I remember seeing this episode at 12 years old back in 1993 from a bootleg import VHS. (I was wondering why people had yellow hair, why a guys head got smashed in ) I was so confused but loved it. Crazy it wouldn't be until the year 2000 when I was 19 this episode would air in the US, and I was so disappointed this song wasn't included in it.

Tamashii vs Tamashii, means "Spirit vs Spirit" or "Soul Vs Soul" which, in the game Dragon Ball Z dokkan battle, there is a link skill for the cell games Z fighters such as buff trunks and super saiyan 2 gohan, and Perfect Cell is weak to characters who have the Soul vs. Soul link skill, or "Tamashii vs Tamashii"

Gohan was also supposed to be the main character after the cell saga but fans got butthurt when Goku was killed off so they brought him back. It wasn't a bad decision but I don't think having Gohan as the mc was bad either. Matter of fact, it would've given this scene a LOT more purpose since it basically was his uprising. They missed golden opportunities with his arc. I haven't seen the newer movie, but I hope they do his arc justice.

for real, I love bruce but unmei no hi is one of best produced songs by Japanese along with Ultimate battle, UI theme, Beerus theme, SSB theme and more in Dragon Ball Super. Bruce just carried DB all the way to the end of Kai except for Gohan's SS2 awakening.

1) Cell had saiyan blood in him meaning when he came back after near death he got a significant power boost. That coupled with gohan's injury made it worse.
2) No. Gohan would have won with the help of his father and called on some latent strength like he did before.

But what you said is right because the injury he had it was worse AND because Goku has died which made gohan in the worst state ever

Such a great line that. This whole song describes gohan perfectly. In my opinion gohan and future trunks had the best transformation scenes in z because you can feel their sadness, anger and regrets. They burn for the justice and they faced grinning blood thirsty demons.

Jessica Klaus Because he was so badass here and then so useless in the Boo arc, even after he canonically became (for a long while) the strongest unfused character in the series. After this, the only use for his strength seemed to be to power up the villains, which he did during the Boo arc not once but twice.
It just feels like - if you're going to make him that strong, give him something to do. And I always thought the message behind Gohan's massive potential was that mixing Saiyans and Humans gave you something that could be stronger than both - but in the end, pureblood Saiyans are still the only ones allowed to do anything important.
