Me an my friends were about the same age as Gohan. It was an incredible moment for all of us. It really just is the fact that we admired him and it is a representation of all of us trying to break from our own fears and insecurities and become great in life and this Gohan's SS2 to his defeat of cell is a symbol of that.

This is what makes Gohan my favorite character in the series to date. From the first episode it was made abundantly clear Gohan was not a fighter. He was timid, afraid. Desired a peaceful end to any conflict. Time and time again he was pushed to his breaking point which revealed his strength of his Species, being a Hybrid. But deep down it killed him each time, Gohan has a gentle kind heart. Even more so than Goku, more akin to his Adoptive Grandpa he was named after. He hates fighting and violence. Outright despises it, could never think of killing another despite anything they do. But when the day came, when everyone has fallen, when it was made clear he was the sole hope for everything he held near. When he was pushed to his limits Physically, Morally, Mentally and Emotionally. He let out a scream and showed what his true power really was. Overwhelming to everyone else. Goku would be angry during a transformation such as this. Vegeta would be smug and cocky during a transformation like this. Gohan? neither. Some forget one simple thing. He's still a child. With tears flowing with his aura without words it's conveyed that his heart genuinely is breaking of the thought of what he's going to have to do. But as the tears to begin to fade. It's made more and more clear that even a gentle hearted child sometimes has to come to grips with reality.
If a scene has its own soundtrack which hasn't been played in any other scene ever, you know that scene is legendary, not even just legendary, super legendary 2.

This is something I wanted for the series. Gohan was one of if not the most interesting character in the series at this point. Making him the MC would’ve been great.

After watching the original, I can say that this scene just got a lot more impactful. I always thought that during the original dub, gohan was a badass warrior, my mind back then was, “wow!! He’s the coolest character, I love this moment!!” and for a long while I kept that mindset every once in a while. Then, I was contemplating about watching the original Japanese dub when I was watching the eng sub of DBS while it aired, but when I did, oh my goodness, i loved it. The music, the silence monologue, the powerful singer of this soundtrack, I’m not gonna explain everything about gohan (since others explained it in the top comments), but it just made me realize how important that music was, and what it was supposed to mean. I’ve heard that most people that watched the dub actually loved the original dub/music, and I can confirmed it now that I’m here.

The speech that the head of Android 16 gave to Gohan before Cell stepped on him and killing him. Then the scene with the bird flying away followed by a red beam that sounds like a gunshot, which signifies Gohans youth and childishness dying and him becoming a young adult and understanding what Android 16 told him "Use your rage for good and let go to protect those that you love, just as I loved birds and this planet".
Definitely one of the best and iconic moments in anime history and a great power up of Gohan not only physically but also mentally. A moment that I remembered for a long time and is in the top of the best and most memorable in the franchise. And song itself is very beautiful and conveys the mood of the scene.
This transformation is awesome on every level and of course iconic, but mentally powered up? I'm not so sure. He did dispose of the Cell Jr's quickly but when it came to finishing off Cell SSJ2 Gohan was torturing and playing with him instead because of the Saiyan traits awakening within. Even Goku had to remind him to finish Cell off, but eventually he got to his senses and the father-son kamehameha was a great redemption. Unfortunately Gohan as an adult was still showing this terrible habit when fighting Buu on his own which got him and others screwed, too bad.
People that are "Gohan fans" really dont know jackshit about his personality.Gohan is not a character that is 'Fight Hungry' like Vegeta or Goku are,He just is a person who wants to be a well educated guy.
I'm a Gohan fan for his personality and how he can actually be powerful when he needs to. The first I ever listened to was the English dubbed, and while the first thing you ever see or hear of it is with you forever, I cried when I heard the original music for them. The English side shows his conflicted emotions and power at that moment, this one shows how he's still just a child wanting to do the right thing and yet doesn't want to cause harm, but it also shows how much he empathized with 16 and how he wants to get revenge. I wouldn't mind an entire cd of solely the original sound tracks.

One of the greatest scenes in television history. The climax to a 4 year storyline where we saw the potential in young Gohan and knew there was something special about him. This is a young boy who has seen the horrors of the world in front of him and has realized that individuals like Cell can’t be reasoned with because all they know is fear, pain, misery and the joy of hurting others with no remorse. This is one of the most powerful scenes in TV history because this is a symbol of something more. It’s a symbol for those who have been abused standing up against their abusers. For victims saying they refuse to be victimized anymore. It’s not wrong to stand up for yourself and fight back. It’s not wrong to fight for what you believe in. At 0:06 the song says "Oh messiah, oh messiah", making a reference to the Biblical Messiah (Jesus Christ), cuz' Gohan is the last resort, the savior of the world at that moment, and was also meant to be the protagonist for the rest of the series.
This is something I wanted for the series. Gohan was one of if not the most interesting character in the series at this point. Making him the MC would’ve been great.

After watching the original, I can say that this scene just got a lot more impactful. I always thought that during the original dub, gohan was a badass warrior, my mind back then was, “wow!! He’s the coolest character, I love this moment!!” and for a long while I kept that mindset every once in a while. Then, I was contemplating about watching the original Japanese dub when I was watching the eng sub of DBS while it aired, but when I did, oh my goodness, i loved it. The music, the silence monologue, the powerful singer of this soundtrack, I’m not gonna explain everything about gohan (since others explained it in the top comments), but it just made me realize how important that music was, and what it was supposed to mean.
I’ve heard that most people that watched the dub actually loved the original dub/music, and I can confirmed it now that I’m here.

Definitely one of the best and iconic moments in anime history and a great power up of Gohan not only physically but also mentally. A moment that I remembered for a long time and is in the top of the best and most memorable in the franchise. And song itself is very beautiful and conveys the mood of the scene.
This transformation is awesome on every level and of course iconic, but mentally powered up? I'm not so sure. He did dispose of the Cell Jr's quickly but when it came to finishing off Cell SSJ2 Gohan was torturing and playing with him instead because of the Saiyan traits awakening within. Even Goku had to remind him to finish Cell off, but eventually he got to his senses and the father-son kamehameha was a great redemption. Unfortunately Gohan as an adult was still showing this terrible habit when fighting Buu on his own which got him and others screwed, too bad.

I'm a Gohan fan for his personality and how he can actually be powerful when he needs to. The first I ever listened to was the English dubbed, and while the first thing you ever see or hear of it is with you forever, I cried when I heard the original music for them. The English side shows his conflicted emotions and power at that moment, this one shows how he's still just a child wanting to do the right thing and yet doesn't want to cause harm, but it also shows how much he empathized with 16 and how he wants to get revenge. I wouldn't mind an entire cd of solely the original sound tracks.
