I still remember watching Gohan turn SSJ2 for the first time when it premiered on Toonami over 2 decades ago. It was then that DBZ forever changed my life. DBZ brought so much joy and happiness to me and countless others across the world. Thank you for everything, Toriyama-sensei. Rest in peace 🕊️
Me an my friends were about the same age as Gohan. It was an incredible moment for all of us. It really just is the fact that we admired him and it is a representation of all of us trying to break from our own fears and insecurities and become great in life and this Gohan's SS2 to his defeat of cell is a symbol of that.

This is what makes Gohan my favorite character in the series to date. From the first episode it was made abundantly clear Gohan was not a fighter. He was timid, afraid. Desired a peaceful end to any conflict. Time and time again he was pushed to his breaking point which revealed his strength of his Species, being a Hybrid. But deep down it killed him each time, Gohan has a gentle kind heart. Even more so than Goku, more akin to his Adoptive Grandpa he was named after. He hates fighting and violence. Outright despises it, could never think of killing another despite anything they do. But when the day came, when everyone has fallen, when it was made clear he was the sole hope for everything he held near. When he was pushed to his limits Physically, Morally, Mentally and Emotionally. He let out a scream and showed what his true power really was. Overwhelming to everyone else. Goku would be angry during a transformation such as this. Vegeta would be smug and cocky during a transformation like this. Gohan? neither. Some forget one simple thing. He's still a child. With tears flowing with his aura without words it's conveyed that his heart genuinely is breaking of the thought of what he's going to have to do. But as the tears to begin to fade. It's made more and more clear that even a gentle hearted child sometimes has to come to grips with reality.
One of the greatest scenes in television history. The climax to a 4 year storyline where we saw the potential in young Gohan and knew there was something special about him. This is a young boy who has seen the horrors of the world in front of him and has realized that individuals like Cell can’t be reasoned with because all they know is fear, pain, misery and the joy of hurting others with no remorse. This is one of the most powerful scenes in TV history because this is a symbol of something more. It’s a symbol for those who have been abused standing up against their abusers. For victims saying they refuse to be victimized anymore. It’s not wrong to stand up for yourself and fight back. It’s not wrong to fight for what you believe in. Those tears that Gohan cried are the tears of every good person who has been pushed too far by evil people. Thank you for this incredible work of art Akira Toriyama.

After watching the original, I can say that this scene just got a lot more impactful. I always thought that during the original dub, gohan was a badass warrior, my mind back then was, “wow!! He’s the coolest character, I love this moment!!” and for a long while I kept that mindset every once in a while. Then, I was contemplating about watching the original Japanese dub when I was watching the eng sub of DBS while it aired, but when I did, oh my goodness, i loved it. The music, the silence monologue, the powerful singer of this soundtrack, I’m not gonna explain everything about gohan (since others explained it in the top comments), but it just made me realize how important that music was, and what it was supposed to mean. At 0:06 the song says "Oh messiah, oh messiah", making a reference to the Biblical Messiah (Jesus Christ), cuz' Gohan is the last resort, the savior of the world at that moment, and was also meant to be the protagonist for the rest of the series.
This is something I wanted for the series. Gohan was one of if not the most interesting character in the series at this point. Making him the MC would’ve been great.

HACE COMO 10 AÑOS atrás en una entrevista a Laura Torres le preguntaron como hizo para hacer ese grito. Y ella dijo que cuando leyo el guion y entendió lo que iba a pasar les pidió a todos que la dejen sola en la sala de grabación. After watching the original, I can say that this scene just got a lot more impactful. I always thought that during the original dub, gohan was a badass warrior, my mind back then was, “wow!! He’s the coolest character, I love this moment!!” and for a long while I kept that mindset every once in a while. Then, I was contemplating about watching the original Japanese dub when I was watching the eng sub of DBS while it aired, but when I did, oh my goodness, i loved it. The music, the silence monologue, the powerful singer of this soundtrack, I’m not gonna explain everything about gohan (since others explained it in the top comments), but it just made me realize how important that music was, and what it was supposed to mean.
I’ve heard that most people that watched the dub actually loved the original dub/music, and I can confirmed it now that I’m here.
