Rich Homie Quan on Rich Gang, PNB Rock, 1st Deal Worth $19K (Full Interview)

- In this full-length interview, Rich Homie Quan harkens back to his previous interviews with DJ Vlad before he became a household name. From there, Rich Homie Quan talks about growing up in Atlanta as the oldest of 3 on his mom’s side and the oldest of 2 on his dad’s side. Rich Homie Quan added that his brother is his road manager, and he explained that he likes to keep his family around him. From there, Rich Homie Quan spoke about graduating high school with a 3.2 GPA and getting a scholarship to go to Fort Valley State University on a baseball scholarship. He explained that his mind was always focused on music, and Rich Homie Quan weighed his options on getting into the MLB, which led to him focusing on music. Rich Homie Quan then revealed that he really got into music when his mom bought him a karaoke machine at 8, and he added that he started writing his own music a few years later.
As the discussion moves along, Rich Homie Quan spoke about his stepfather encouraging him as a performer when he was a young kid, and he explained that his favorite movies were “The Five Heartbeats” and “The Jacksons: An American Dream.” When asked about being arrested in 2009 for burglary, Rich Homie Quan explained that after leaving college, he was broke, which led him to steal. He then spoke about getting caught the first time his friends took him on a robbery, but he explained how he learned from his friend's mistakes. From there, Rich Homie Quan detailed what he learned in jail for his 15-month bid,
Moving along, Rich Homie Quan talks about his biggest hit to date, "Type of Way," and the accolades that came with it. From there, talks about another mega-hit that he's known for, "My N*gga," and how that ended up being YG's song, even though he was the first person to lay down vocals on the track for DJ Mustard before he knew anyone else was going to be featured. The Atlanta native then talks about how the success of "Type of Way" and "My N*gga" back in 2013 went to his head because the success happened too fast. Lastly, Rich Homie Quan declares that he was his generation's YoungBoy.
Later in the interview, Rich Homie Quan talks about making his best hits before the "streaming era" in the music industry, his working relationship with Young Thug and Birdman, and their iconic Rich Gang Collaboration. This prompts Rich Homie Quan to relive the backstory behind "Lifestyle." Lastly, he shares his thoughts on the passing of PnB Rock.
