    Dude, you are a life saver. I ordered a new shade screen months ago and have been struggling to find a DIY video. You did a great job of explaining each step. Audis are incredibly difficult cars to work on. Thanks a bunch bro.

    I've been dreading replacing mine because I've been told anything from the entire frame needs to be replaced, to the headliner needs to come out. Thanks for making this detailed video!!

    A simple solution on making the low cost non OEM sunshade work: We discovered during our installation, the two OEM parts that fit into the end of the aluminum bar (the parts that have the small ball on them, see 14:20 in video) are far superior to the non OEM sunshade parts. We simply removed those two parts from the old OEM sunshade and transferred them to the new non OEM sunshade. Once we made the transfer of the said parts, the sunshade was much easier to install.
    Side Note: Before making the transfer of the old OEM parts into the new sunshade, take those parts and practice installing them without the aluminum bar in the way. This will give you a clear picture of how they're installed into the brackets on the car. I hope our suggestion helps on the installation while saving you guy's some bank at the same time...
    Mike: Without your awesome video we wouldn't have attempted the install in the first place, Thanks Again!!!

    Good job. One of the more comprehensive guides I’ve come across. This worked for my 2013 A5. One tweak I would suggest is that removing the interior screw covers can be much easier to remove. Just reach under the tilted glass in the back of the roof and grab with a pair of pliers and pull straight back.

    You snapped bro. I just bought one of these and the shade was already completely messed up- couldn't even roll up or move really... n I don't like being "couped" in (pun, couldn't resist)... I ripped that fabric thing right outta there so fast and neatly folded it up and tucked it in over the aluminum piece... but that Georgia summer is lurking on this black leather soo... I will probably be giving this video a good hour+ of play time come February/March lol!! Anyway, video saved!

    Thanks a lot, Mike! Your video was a great tutorial to change the sunshade/screen on my 2013 A5; very well explained steps by steps.

    Great video. I just noticed this happening on my 2011 today. Do you think there's a way to glue the fabric back to the side rail? I am not sure I'd want to replace the entire assembly if there was a way to do that, thoughts?

    Thank you! Extraordinary effort. Two questions though - 1.) Did I miss the part where you reconnect that clip that was one of the first things you disconnected? 2.) With the glass out, can we see if there are sunroof tubes that may need a cleaning or flushing? Again, thank you - I was dreading this repair but you made it look easy!

    Hey Mike, your video is excellent. One thing that I couldn’t quite figure out was when putting the two pins back, how do you know where to align them? I couldn’t see a hole to align them to. Thanks

    • @MikeBedau
      @MikeBedau  3 месяца назад

      I recall placing the part in exactly the same position when the pin was removed. Putting the pin back in takes some finesse. Don’t use too much force. If the pin doesn’t go in with some minor taps with a hammer then readjust and try again. If the holes aren’t aligned and you hit the pin with a full swing of a hammer you run the risk of bending or smashing the pin. I think it is only made of aluminum.

    This video was great! Unfortunately the replacement part and the design itself is complete rubbish.
    My replacement part refused to unroll. Honestly, I have no earthly idea why Audi went with such a complicated design. Really I don't feel like a sunshade should be a complicated matter, especially at the price point that these originally sold for.

      same here, the roller doesnt retract in the middle, and the sliders were giving me hell (not fitting), finally got the sliders in and when it came to opening it, its gets all caught up in itself. really sucks so i guess i have no sunshade now.

    Question? Does the ball and shinny piece (15:02 mark) ride inside the same channel together? I think I just answered my own question. The ball rides in the lower ball channel and the metal spring piece and plastic piece rides in the upper rectangular channel... Great video BTW...
