Without a doubt, your step by step presentation is the most comprehensive tutorial on RUclips. Quotes to repair by my local Audi dealer and interior shops ranged anywhere from $2100 to $2300 PLUS tax. A $50.00 aftermarket screen from Amazon while utilizing the original Audi Q5 housing was key to everything lining up after the removal of the coiled up mess of old sunscreen. The process of lining up the screen's coil and metal tab in the track was much easier by temporarily reinstalling the screw in the hole that holds down each corner cover as an anchor point while aligning and installing the gray plastic end cap at the opposite side. I used a twist tie from a loaf of bread to secure the metal tab from the coil to the screw as roll back prevention from the screen wanting to roll back while setting the opposite corner Two angled pick tools from Harbor Freight is paramount to manipulate proper alignment of each tab that is attached to the coil. Check and recheck proper coil alignment because one time doing this pain in the arse task is enough for any one person to handle. Stay patient and refer back to the video as many times as you need to and all will be well along with saving 2k plus. Thank you for an excellent DIY video.
So there is actually the clearance to feed the coil with tab attached into the track? Visually it seems very, very tight.
Wow, Thank You for an outstanding tutorial on the procedure. I ordered a Chinese roll shade from eBay for ~$40 USD and replaced the shade in our 2013 VW TDI SportWagen. I watched the video a few times before starting and cued up the steps as I did the project. I took my time, and it took @ 4.5 hours. The biggest problem I had was hooking the clips onto the plastic guide clip that goes into the end of the support bar, I took my time and finally got it to work. Saved me 2500-3000 that I was quoted by dealers, local mechanics, and interior shops. This is a doable job for anyone with patience and this outstanding tutorial.

My blind failed yesterday night. After 10 years 1 coils broke turning it all into a mess. Thanks to your video I could already remove the blind. Now I am waiting for the spare to arrive. There were no other videos in the web compare to your comprehensive one. Muchas gracias from Mallorca island (Spain). You are a star!!! To all other sunroofers clean the 4 draining pipes regulary to avoid water inside the car. Tell you that by experience...After arrival of the spare i could manage to replace the blind successful. The most tricky part was fiddling the coils into the lane for it. But without your precise video I couldn't done the whole replacements on my own.

I just finished doing this job to my Q5 , like what everybody is saying the clip was the hardest part. Pay attention and watch this video over and over to understand how the clip works and where it’s suppose to go.
This video shows ( 6:00 ) it but you have to watch it a few times to understand .
This shade is an aftermarket that you have to remove the metal clip, the original one that I replaced does not have the metal clip. This is the part that confused me the most.

How did you get access to the sunshade from the back since thos is assembled differently vs the Tiguan, looks harder to access the rack where the sunshade is integrated

Thank you! I was stuck at 95%, couldn't figure out why the screen wasn't lined up in the rail. From the picture in your video I was able to determine that a coil unraveled once and was backwards. Your a life saver, it's workin like new. The other videos I've watched were not as detailed as yours and were missing some key parts for installation. A big thumbs up, Thanks again!

I just finished replacing my sunshade in my 2012 Tiguan. Thanks for the amazing tutorial. If you’re doing it by yourself you can pass a flexible wire through the eye of the metal clip and tie it to one of the rear sunroof glass screw holes. This way the metal coil will not retract when you try to pass the metal coil through the rail on the other side.
Great step by step guide I managed to successfully change my vw 2010 sunshade. Took me about 6 hours and help from wife when placing sunshade into rails.

hi was wondering how did you get the clips out of the plastic part? did you use a screwdriver like he said? I'm having problems with that part.
@@d.edwardsfreelanceeditorvi4212 Hi I broke them out of the plastics clips and fed through the slot along with metal springs. Then pushed plastic clips from top and into the sunshade aluminium bar.

Completed this job today in my VW Tiguan 2015 155TSI, although there was alot of sections that still wasn't covered perfectly and made it harder to figure out, this definately did help with the repair job. Thank you for uploading from Australia!

Now I have more confidence to do this job myself. Don’t think the body shop guy who has had the Audi for a month would not fuck it up. I just ordered all the parts I needed from a fender bender I was in off eBay since I’m repairing without insurance, gonna have him put the Intercooler/turbo tube that connects it, then drive it away and do the rest myself.

Hey there….i am going to replace the sunshade in my Tiguan and was wondering if you have to remove the rear portion of the sunroof glass for just the sunshade or if there is a way to work around this.

Can you remove the sunroof without the blind?
Excuse me good sir, I just have one question. I managed to replace sunshade on vw tiguan but I have a problem with those blue things that pull the sunshade. They are not aligned so one goes to the end when closed and the other side does not, it has a space of 1 cm aprox. Also when fully opened, I can see clearly that one is back on the spot where it should be, like in your video but the other one goes a bit further. Do you have any advice to what the problem could be?
i use your method this afternoon on my Skoda Yéti.The big difficulty is to put the spring into slide right and left. I use a wire to maintain spring in place while instaling finishing bar ! A🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣n assistant is required !!!!!!

Depende como y de donde se salió. Usualmente es mejor poner una nueva. Ya que puede ser que se haya despegado o doblado y eso sea la causa que se salga de los rieles. Saludos!
It is impossible to thread the coil into the rail. The headliner must be removed. Or is there another idea?
is it not possible to fix the metal clips and the sliding support BEFORE you build the shade into the car?

I have Tiguan 2014 Highline and for some reason the sunroof shade stopped working. I checked the shade and it looks ok also I ordered new one as well but the blue pins where shade is attached is not moving when I press those arrow buttons. What could possibly wrong ? Or may be fuse or something else ?

Is there a shade that actually blocks out the sun completely? Even with a shade the interior will get hot.

Hola, muy buen video. Segui los pasos, pero en mi caso se me arruga la cortina cuando hago la prueba. Se termina saliendo de la guia. Te pregunto si hay que hacer algun tipo de reset del motor para que se ajuste la cortina. Será necesario? Vi un texto que dice algo de resetear...pero no tenia video.

Thanks a lot for the helpful video. Without him, I wouldn't be able to understand why my blinds never worked. The previous owner had it repaired at a workshop that broke a part and did not put the small metal plates on the guides at all. Now I ordered a new blind in the link you mentioned, but I don't know if these small metal plates will arrive in the set. Do you know what equipment the blind comes in and if these plates are not there, can they be replaced with something?

Yes, the set comes with everything included. the blind and the plates on both sides with the small metals that support the blind.

Thanks for the video! After I got the sunshade installed, which is after 7:30 , I have problem to install the base. The base seems can't be inserted to origional position, it was blocked by the motor in the middle, and can't get two side aligned with the rail. How did you get it in ?

Saludo, chequea el fusible no. 43 ó el botón esta malo. Si tienes algún liqueo de agua por el sunroof puede llegar al control donde funciona el sunroof y hace q no funcione. (Humedad)

Great video. I have one question. Is it possible that the rails also need to be replaced? Or the dispenser for the shade? My shade was making a bad noise when I tried to make it pull forward and now it is stuck. The motor won’t let it open anymore or close. Do you think just a new shade is needed?
