  • In this After Effects Tutorial, I’ll show you how to animate abstract shapes!
► Download the project file here: gumroad.com/ma...
It is not as complicated as it seems!
First, we set up the comps we need. We take the precomp, create a new main comp with it and in the main comp, we duplicate the predomp, flip it horizontally, duplicate it again, flip it vertically and one more time duplicate it and flip it horiziontally.
It's 4 times the same comp, which we now need to animate. It's mostly simple keyframe animations
of the rotation, scale and position of shapes. All nicely smoothed out be editing the speed curves in the graph editor.
Some small parts need to be done frame by frame though... It won't take long!
Finally, we add a layer style - bevel and emboss, and some gradient ramps, to give it a unique look.
I guess the main task in this tutorial is to figure out, how animating a shape in the precomp turns out in the main comp.

From what I'm gathering about this, it seems that it's all based on symmetry, and creating a practical kaleidoscope look. This makes so much sense!

this video does a brilliant job at explaining how to create these abstract animations.. but the question is... how to come up with such complex animations ??? how to create them in head before actually developing in the animation software.. are there some basics ? some rules ? how do we get started ??

It's a mix. You need to have an idea what you want to create and play around and explore things in After Effects. Things like this take a lot of time to create. There are no rules.

I did everything right but result of 1st composition is completely different? I think it's because your files I downloaded is messy. There are many differentadditional compositions that I didnt know did I chose the right one

It's all the same animation in the files, just for different formats.

    Hey, This tutorial is excellent.
    I would like to know
Like you set keyframes on specific location like 25,45,55 etc.
Is there is any rule or something to set keyframes or it is just hit and try method ?
    I'm confused
Like on which frames we have to put keyframes
    AND
How do we have to select FPS while creating Main Composition for animation ?

Hi! Thanks very much! So glad you like it!
I plan the animations before recording the tutorials. That’s why I know exactly where to place the keyframes.
      So that’s just my suggestion.
There’s no rule, where to put them. The animation should have a nice flow and some kind of steady rhythm.
If you wanted the animation to be slower, you would set the keyframes further apart from each other.
You choose whatever FPS you like. I chose 24 FPS because it’s most common.

Thx very much! I figure stuff like that out, before recording the tutorials… So when I record it I usually know the numbers.

    • @ManueldoesMotion
      @ManueldoesMotion  Год назад

You need to make all animations faster. Reduce the time between keyframes.

@@ManueldoesMotion I do music and video classes too. Background music must be really low, like a wishper, just to keep the interest.
