Ave Maria was my Grandmother's favorite song. I sang it this past Christmas during mass. I hope to sing it again this Christmas for her. From a young age it has become my favorite and has helped me during difficult times.

I do the same . My mother adored it when I would sing the Ave Maria at mass. I sang it at my fathers memorial service but could not sing it at my mother's I was too distraught by her passing. This was my mum's favourite song. She didn't speak a word of English, nor understood it, but she'd listen to this at least once a week and dance on the balcony rain or shine, her children followed, and her grandchildren as well. She died last week and I'm trying to dance to this with a smile on my face remembering everything wonderful about her. She didn't need to understand the lyrics, music is truly beautiful like that, you just gotta feel it. Rest in peace mommy, I'll be there in a minute on that balcony with you dancing and hugging you. One thing a lot of people do not realize is why opera singers have such strong voices. When opera was developed there were no microphones. The opera singer had to be heard over a full orchestra and also be heard to the very back of the auditorium. They had to learn to project their voices by focusing on those people at the very back of the audience. Really. Amazing that that can be done. Think of Jesus talking to the 5,000. What a voice he must have had. Orators could talk to large crowds at that time.
My drill sergeant in Basic could be heard from the forest across a field while facing away from us reciting the Drill sergeant's creed in front of our families. This practice still exists. I could even understand what he was saying. I was at least 2 football fields + away for context.
Technically that Jesus was able to speak to 500 people is another miracle, since it was surprising how everyone could hear him clearly (and in different languages) since it was a group that was not determined (Corinthians 15: 6)

I grew up in a mixed Faith home. As an Orthodox Jew and a Roman Catholic, I am not sure who was more surprised at my song of choice. I had to sing a song from memory in Hebrew lesson and Ave Maria, in Latin, was the only one I could sing without music or lyrics. I'm sure my event made it to the Rabbi's ears, as well as Mother Superior's too! K to 12 of Roman Catholic Nuns and 21 years of teaching by a Rabbi. I don't know who prayed for my Soul more!

She didn't speak a word of English, nor understood it, but she'd listen to this at least once a week and dance on the balcony rain or shine, her children followed, and her grandchildren as well. She died last week and I'm trying to dance to this with a smile on my face remembering everything wonderful about her. One thing a lot of people do not realize is why opera singers have such strong voices. When opera was developed there were no microphones. The opera singer had to be heard over a full orchestra and also be heard to the very back of the auditorium. They had to learn to project their voices by focusing on those people at the very back of the audience. Really. Amazing that that can be done. Think of Jesus talking to the 5,000. What a voice he must have had. Orators could talk to large crowds at that time.

I grew up in a mixed Faith home. As an Orthodox Jew and a Roman Catholic, I am not sure who was more surprised at my song of choice. I had to sing a song from memory in Hebrew lesson and Ave Maria, in Latin, was the only one I could sing without music or lyrics. I'm sure my event made it to the Rabbi's ears, as well as Mother Superior's too! K to 12 of Roman Catholic Nuns and 21 years of teaching by a Rabbi. I don't know who prayed for my Soul more!

Played at my grandfather's funeral last week, a beautiful song, and one of his favourites, brings tears to my eyes every time.
