Man, the women's Gladiators team was in a tough state at the start of the season. Jet left due to her injury, Zodiac was basically gone as well due to her injury, Nightshade (whenever she appeared) was a shell of her past self and Panther had clearly overstayed her welcome at that point. Plus Rebel and Rio were still new and hadn't adjusted yet.
Pretty sure Adrean messed up his leg when he jumped off the beam. A fair amount of contenders ran and jumped off the beam for momentum to go up the travelator but he jumped too hard.
I always thought power ball was much harder for the male contestants due to the size different between them and the male gladiators compared to the women
Such a shame that Adrian had to drop out of the eliminator due to a injury to his hamstring as he was doing so well and unfortunately only this time last year Andy Farrell such a pity as he was such a young age taken from us far too soon
Series 5 Gladiators meets the Bristol Street Motors Trophy. Clearly the producers were inspired by what was then known as the Auto Windscreens Shield as the format of the competition mirrors English football's 3rd and 4th tier tournament. Northern heats, Southern Heats, Area Semi's, Area Final and the 2 area champions meet in the season finale for the overall title. What a start the graveyard claims another victim in Adrean he rushed it on the beam and problem the hard landing wrecked his hammy.
To this day I have no idea what the feck Adrian was trying to do during that eliminator, I mean he slinging himself into everything and there was need to he had a big lead. But the balancing beam was ridiculous, the first time trying to run across it with a 7 second lead was comical, but he was still massively in the lead on the 2nd try and still tried to run across it and then made a ridiculous 5 yard jump of it when all he needed to do was just get across and take his time ffs. Absolutely comical, even at the end he had a big lead when he was trying to run up the travellator with a busted hamstring.
A number of contenders from previous series came off like that, I think they do it to keep their momentum going for the travelator In case it turned out to be Adrian's undoing when he landed like a sag of spuds & did his hamstring
well, its easy to say that, but when your hearts racing, whilst your opponent is chasing you in the eliminator, its easier said then done mate, anyone could have made that mistake!!
Yeah he missed a few episodes due to injury but he was about this series. This was the only episode he did Duel in, his main events this season were Powerball, Gauntlet and Whiplash.
No gladiator was bigger than the show. Problem is it’s hard to keep something fresh and by this point bar hardcore fans things had become a bit stale for viewers.
The first attempt was just as bad,, trying to sprint across it with a 10 second lead haha. But the 2nd attempt proved he had no competition game management at all, a lead like that you can take your time and conserve energy and avoid injury,, its not often you get that luxury in competition.
@@gftyhify: She did! That entire season is on RUclips! I love Citv’s Finders Keepers, even though I’m from the states. I hope we see a full 2006 episode of the show soon

@@davidfearis7335 The whole point was for it to be quick and nerve wrecking, any mistakes would be punished so it was about handling pressure as well as being fit, strong and conditioned. This wasn't that bad though they totally jumped the shark in 1997,, the show was dying at this point not because of the revamping but because the contestants became poorer, they were people through that couldn't make the final 300 the previous seasons. This series was the last good series,, Reeves, Mottram, Damm etc were all good in my opinion.
She had a serious injury during training for POLE-AXE, so the event was scrapped until it was revamped with Safety Harnesses And also I think ZODIAC was pregnant during Series 5 so she couldn't do any of the contact games

Why the fuck did a professional rugby league player need to enter a entertainment show for? Lol,, it kinda loses some appeal when they start inviting already rich athletes onto the show,, probably why it lost viewers tbh,, it was mainly about the working public trying to win a amateur event.

@@therebel4332 He had a big lead in the Northern Final and don't think he lost any points due to the Gladiators treating him different, only event he didn't score on was Hunter on the Wall. Watching this in 2023! I absolutely LOVED this show and been binge watching them last few days. BEST SHOW EVER MADE in my opinion ❤️❤️❤️
Back in 6 weeks on BBC1
I loved seeing the good sportsmanship shown by Andy and Adrean after Adrean's injury.
22 years ago. Geez! I feel old.
I was 11 when this aired

On the same day the fifth series began in Britain, Australia aired the Ashes series (which wouldn't be aired in Britain until the end of the year).
Just imagine... back when there was no mobiles, no Social Media, no Internet. Our lives were so enriched.
The 90s were the best times of lives look forward the 2023 BBC revival coming later this year.
It's GREAT to Have Eunice Huthart back again on our Screens!
Anyone else think the runners up prize is better than the winners prize?
Yes and I was wondering whether anyone else thought that.
The pre-facelift Nissan Terranos of previous series appear to have become post-facelift Ford Mavericks here.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Cardiff in the SOUTH?
Your right
Seemingly if you lived outside the M25 circular you lived in the north. 😂

In the men's powerball how come nothing was said about the high tackles?
The rope climb and the travellator are the hardest parts of the Eliminator course.
Monkey bars too though the men's eliminator was worse because they got that awful hand bike thing instead, which was even harder.
