Thematically, Spirit of Fire is a fantastic name, but Halo 3 was my introduction to the series, and I’ve always loved the name Forward Unto Dawn. Actually, The Savannah was not only drawing fire away from the pelican with the slipspace bomb on it but also Jamming the communications of the Corvette. Preventing it from letting the other Covie Ships from learning of the ship being boarded and taken over by the Humans. It's why the Savannah couldn't break away from the fight in time. @@falloutgamer347 I assumed it was because she lost network access to the ship once the gravemind took full control of high charity. Another thing as well, while the Autumn's reactors detonating where quite destructive there are 2 things to keep in mind. 1. High Charity is a different shape, density and was in orbit of 05. 2. The Autumn is a cruiser that was refitted with a cutting edge power-plant before she left Reach, IAC is just a frigate with a standard reactor. The power differences make me doubt a blast would destroy the Halo and they city.

I would be fine with Infinity being destroyed (or wrecked, more accurately) so long as the Spirit of Fire comes in to replace it. I love the idea of Spirit of Fire slipping in to Zeta Halo to save the day, deploying hundreds of battle-hardened Marines and ODSTs to reinforce the beleaguered UNSC troops. More than that, I love the image of Red Team, assumed dead for 27 years, landing to back up the Master Chief. His brothers and sisters, people he'd known from the age of 6, people he'd grown up with, miraculously back from the dead to help him give the Banished some overdue whoop-ass.
There are good reasons why it can't happen, I know. Spirit of Fire was never much of a warship to begin with; the ship's entire purpose is to deliver ground troops and firebases, not engage enemy ships. After 27 years and accumulated battle damage at both the Shield World and the Ark, that's surely even more true. Even a single dinky Banished corvette could likely destroy the Spirit of Fire without much difficulty. Still, I like to dream.

Honestly, its more likely that its the Spirit of Fire that is toasted. Mostly due to the line about "new cortana" being sent to destroy "old cortana"...Basically, cheif is on a mission...For some reason, alone. He probably stumbled upon the whole mini-war between the SOF UNSC crews and the Banished, and was like..WTF mate. Also also, look at the pilot of the one ship that saves him..Scraggly, looking like he has been through some shit....One of the few humans that survived multiple covenant engagements and just wants to go home, lol.

Small correction: In Amber Clad did not detonate, Id say the Gravemind took control of the ship and disabled its engine before Cortana could initiate the overload. Otherwise High Charity would have been seriously damaged by the time of H3 but is instead very much intact.
Also, small SPOILER for the launch trailer of Halo Infinite below:
Within the first 20 seconds there is a space battle shown where a Banished ship cleanly cuts into the Infinities top forward hull section, suffice to say if she did survive the ram, she is most likely completely inoperable. There have also been suggestions that a large, blocky object in the background of many recent gameplay trailers could be the infinity as it had crashed onto Zeta Halo. It shows a rather distinctive form of damage that aligns with the afformentioned ramming.

The Spirit of Fire will always be my favorite Hero ship in the series. And if you look at it's history in both games it stared in the Spirit of Fire survived Harvest, Arcadia, being dragged into a Forrunner Shield World, a very upclose encounter with a Covenant Destroyer, escaping the same Shield World before it's destroyed, drifting aimlessly for nearly 3 decades, and a Banished Carrier with Banshees attacking it. The Spirit survived a whole lot, and that, along with the reasons stated in the video, is why I love the Spirit of Fire so much as my favorite Hero ship in Halo.

As for the Infinity's role in the Halo lore, I think it was sort of a promise for the future/gigantic bluff on Humanity's part. It was one ship more advanced then anything else, but it was still only one ship. And their fleets been extremely depleted. Any remaining threats would things be put down fast and hard to protect a recovering humanity.

The Infinity would have been much more compelling if it wasn't actually the big supership the UNSC made it out to be, but was a slap-dash mix of recycled parts and scavenged technology built as a desperate last hope.
No weapons powerful enough to crack small moons, or shields that can take head on collisions with other ships. The Infinity is powerful, very powerful. But it is a bunch of poorly understood technologies held together with duct tape, and is prone to breakdowns and weird malfunctions. And instead of being an entirely new ship design, it's built out of recycled ships and standard parts to take advantage of remaining UNSC construction (and their excess of scrappable destroyed ships).
Sure, it's not glamorous, but it's infinitely more interesting: a ships built by a dying navy, strapped for resources and cobbled together out of what they had and the most advanced technology at their disposal as fast as possible to be humanity's lifeboat. Now pushed into service as the biggest and most capable ship in the UNSC post war, until new real warships can be built.

For the longest time since it released, I couldn’t play Halo Wars. I was too young, unable to comprehend the thought of a Strategy game. The game that I played the most the most was Halo Reach. The atmosphere in campaign especially, almost every ship destroyed wounded you. The loss of the civilian ship and Savannah especially saddened me.
Though after reaching my teens, I began playing Halo Wars again, see if I can “this time” figure out how to play. That was when I feel in love with not only the ship, but the crew. Even playing it non stop between Reach for almost three years. If the ship is ever destroyed I would be devastated, even the thought of it hurts me.
Edit: I also miss the original voice actor to Captain Cutter. He reminds me of a grandfather figure, might appear cold but still deeply cares for the people around him. This can be seen each time you fail a mission, either scolding you, or sounding disappointed. The campaign especially shows it. The new voice actor seems younger, eccentric, and less cautious with regards to how he endangers the lives of his crew. The old character I doubt would ever risk a arch missile barrage while his men could be caught in the cross-fire. Yet had to appear more cinematic for a introduction to a new enemy. The new character and art makes him appear twenty years younger, which to me calls into question his role as “grandfather”. Yet that is my only gripe. Serena being gone also came as a depressing shock. Though I understood story wise and was able to quickly move on as the campaign progressed.

I love your work! It's always so captivating and informative! When you've got time, could you do an analysis of the G.D.I. walkers from Tiberian Sun, like the Mammoth Mk. 2 ? I'd love to see your take on them. Keep up the awesome work!

Couldn’t agree more about the spirt of fire, that ship and red team /omega team is probably my favorite story in the halo series. Doubtful of a halo war 3 Bc the player turnout wasn’t all that on halo wars 2. And I think the halo wars 1 as a game was much better. But if we don’t get a game I hope we go some books on it great story that needs to be told.

The design of halo all around is just perfect honestly. The ships on both sides are beautiful. The covenant give off the absolutely alien look they were going for and the UNSC give us a metallic blocky design that is honestly something I could totally see flying through space in the 2500s of real life. I’ve always been emphatuated with the names of the ships. Halo has always been my fav sci-fi and will continue to be.

Aparently, the names are all lines from poems.
As for Savanah, I think the fact that she was mismanaged actually shows just how bad things were. I know I might be just overanalyzing the whole sequence, but I wonder how many ops Holland was managing at the time? Like, you gotta assume that his command post was juggling half the Spartans in theatre. Nobody can do that perfectly.
