Chris, Another fantastic lesson. I don't know how you make every lesson look so simple. I have yet another request for you. Apologies for so many requests, but your videos help me learn so much better than any other content creator's lessons do. I would love to see a lesson on "Roanoke" by Bill Monroe. I went through your bluegrass playlist and didn't see it in there. Once again, beautiful work. Thank you for all you do for the community. Keep fiddlin' around. 😁🎻
Thanks! Heard this played in a jam session at a local Bluegrass Festival and was struggling to figure out the name of the tune because I only knew it from the Popeye cartoons!
The best version for me by far is the one at the end of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells with the legendary Viv Standshall giving a drunken guided tour of The Manor Richard Branson’s house at the time where Mike recorded his amazing first album Tubular Bells.
Hi Greg. My fiddle is French, by Louis Renard. Others may disagree, but I would say there's no difference between a folk fiddle and a classical violin. A good instrument is good for either. It's more the technique of playing than the instrument.
Nice one! pleaseeee could you do the wellaman and a tutorial :') I tried learning devil went down to Georgia with your tutorial may have been abit too much too soon.. not play since I was 12 and I'm now 28 x
I’d disagree on some of these. Sailor’s Hornpipe is meant to be a jumpy, bouncy tune for dancing on limited surface area. A sharp I found to be a little too slicing and cutting while B flat was a bit too smooth and plodding.
I agree with all your fans below, but want to add how much I dig the history and background info along with the technical details. very cool man.
Thanks Christopher, good to be appreciated!
Thanks Chris! Yet another great lesson!
So that's what Mark O'Connor was up to with this! The version on Appalachia Waltz is where I first heard it that way. Will check out the other album!
Just great!
THANK YOU!!
You're welcome Philip!
Kinda wild how Sailors Hornpipe is just Turkey in the straw and is just do your ears hang low but progressively more melodically condensed.

Glad you enjoyed this one. I'll have a look at Roanoke. It may take me a while to get it up to speed!

Thanks, I never heard that before! It even has an (unnamed) fiddle player!
Any chance of doing the Sportsman's Hornpipe? Wonderful channel by the way
Wow, that's a beauty! I'll put it on the list.
What make of fiddle? It has an ideal fiddle sound and is good and loud. My ancient classical violin sounds great but doesn't have the right sound.

Hi Faye. I've already done Wellerman!

I hate this tune... But I certainly enjoyed listening to you play it and the variations.
Cheers
Thanks Brian!
♫ Made popular by Popeye the sailor man ♫
