I think 80 is the ideal stat to aim for because it's a solid amount of everything.

That's very fair. I very rarely go for double or triple 100s. As you can see in the stompees build I had, I tend to only go for 100 resil in pve and 100 recovery in pvp. Everything else I try to compromise the T10 stat in order to get a high overall, but most people dont care about that and just want to show off triple 100s.

This is a nice explanation. Especially the bit about the stat buckets. Its also nice to see how Armor Picker tracks subclass buffs. I wish it also included non-buffed fragments in the loadout export. Are there any different stat-bucket distribution for exotics?

I know some older exotics can max out at 37/34 for a total of 71 overall.

Right now I think all my builds have 100 resilience for the 30% DR and 100 discipline for the fastest possible grenade CD with as few mods as possible. After that, I just try to build into whatever else is required. It's a lot less stressful than trying to mix/max everything. My biggest issue with D2 armor picker is the wasted stats feature is that it doesn't prioritize armors that can be used by multiple builds. So you might end up masterworking three chest pieces for three separate builds, but you could have just reused the same chest piece for all three if you were willing to waste a few stats. If you struggle to keep enough materials on hand, keep that in mind.

d2armorpicker has a toggle to only use armor that is already masterworked. If materials are an issue, I suggest trying this setting first.
EDIT: I also suggest using the drop-down below specific builds to see if the armor piece selected is already masterworked. I tend to choose ones that already have armor I've used.

D2Armor Picker is better than Dim?
    How?

Great question. d2armorpicker has a lot more customization than DIM Loadout Optimizer. In DIM loadout optimizer, you are limited to setting subclass fragments and selecting certain armor pieces/exotics. In d2armorpicker, you can ask the program to try and achieve your desired stats while minimizing the number of mods used, try to make a build with zero wasted stats, very easily see all the framents laid out with the stat bonuses easily displayed, request that it only uses armor pieces that are already masterworked (without having to search your vault for them), and even save your settings in a config for future use.
TLDR, d2armorpicker is a scientific calculator, when dim is just a plain calculator. Both of them work, but one can do more.
