For his long trips it looks like he would spellbook swap using his max cape at the end of his trip

rhino got it right the mage cape allows you to swap spellbooks 5 times a day so I could swap to standard book at the end of trips and alch all the drops

I didn't try it but I heard a lot of people say they used it. Imo it's better to just wait until the kill is over to kill the spawns but could be good for lower level people who can't tank the rats as well
