I had a crane and did a lot of work for a sign guy. I got a kick out of listening to him and his workers talking about taking their girls on dates just driving all over town at night looking at signs

At first, I was thinking the culvert was overkill and would cost too much for some water but seeing all that water flowing was shocking. I would have been pissed from the very first time seeing that much water flowing in my backyard after buying that house and not being told about a river alongside your house. At least you were able to fix it and it looked good too.

I have a bad back from years working as a builder. I get pain from just watching your crew working with all that stone, and also doing it with care so it both serves its purpose and looks nice. You sir have a great team, remember to bring them a couple of beers on days like that. A beer-break in the shadow with your mates really lifts the spirit and rejuvenates your energy more than coke can ever dream of.
The one thing that makes you guys a good company is the fact that you guys go back when it rains to make sure it works so the customer is happy Keep up the hard work :)

We had a open pit mine near my former home where we could purchase everything from riprap to crusher run. The small stuff made for great top cover on driveways. I had never seen the big stuff used except on highways. Thanks for showing us how it's used in consumer applications.
Thank you! This was a big project and labor was a huge part. We couldn't access the channel with a truck so we had to hand load the rock into the bucket then hand work the rock in the channel.
Your company is the gold standard for this work. All other companies should have to measure up to your quality work. Love your videos. I have done some drainage work on my property and can see from your example that I have done a lot of things right. It works. By the way, I’m a 60+ women and love this sort of work.

Looks really good! What you said about keeping it an open channel to catch more surface water from the neighbor makes a lot of sense. It's disgusting that these towns get away with just dumping water on people like this. It makes me furious. If you are poor and can't pay to have this work done, you are screwed.
The homeowners kept telling me there was a tremendous amount of water, so I went with that! A drainage system that gets overwhelmed might as well not be there, so I always try to make sure any system will handle a ton of water. 👍
Shocking... An operator who knows how to straddle a ditch AND, the pipe joints were cleaned and lubed. Goes to show how many shoemakers are in here. Nice hand work with the riprap and lawn. Love you have before and after and of it actually working as planned. I checked as to why so few subs and I see you are new. We will do some word of mouth and try to get you a bit more settled in. It's funny you mention straddling the ditch...I about fell in when trying to get out of there. That big excavator is still a little intimidating, but I got it out. I've been excited to see the channel grow, so any referrals would be awesome! Thanks!
very well thought out drainage, I also built a rip rap (6' stone)style drain running along my driveway to 16' corugated drain pipe under the driveway to the other side then dumps over the hillside. The only thing that I dont like about it is 7 yrs later the weeds are growing up through the weed control fabric and its a pain to weedeat as it throws rocks and ebris all over the palce.
When he said a ton of water, he wasn't kidding. Another successful solution. Wouldn't surprise me if the neighbor calls after seeing how well it worked out
This is honestly beautiful. I would want the little pond fixed too with a FD or something but otherwise looks like this would be great for landscaping and making a cozy backyard.

Wow, great work. What an awful situation though! I would have taken one look at that place and said, nope, not buying it! I have it bad enough as it is where I live. I'm getting ideas on how to handle the Spring run off. But that was just insane! Water is very powerful! I just bought a 31 acre, mostly level, piece of land in NH (believe it or not). I live in Tasmania & draining roof water into the street is law. I run a landscape construction business & drainage is a critically important aspect of our work. Before I turn a sod, hammer a nail or drive a screw, the laser level is the first bit of kit on site. You do a great job on some big messes & mistakes. We had shonky tradesmen as well.
That is really awesome job and improvement. Rip rap really slows the velocity and may even catch some debris. Where we are at, we deal with too many branches, even small logs washing down into the culverts and end up having to oversize, or put in large entrance grates. Service clean outs along the culvert run sometimes. Residential area like that, not much debris. Thanks for posting the before and after water flow. Great result and attention to detail.

As someone who installs A LOT of drainage, it still amazes me how water finds it's own way to the lowest spots on the land.....You can try and direct nature, but nature will always find it's own way.
I like this sort of heavy duty channel being open to the surface. You can see if it's breaking down at any point, and fix it straight away, where an underground drain you don't know if there's a problem until it fails completely. It's also much easier for a new owner to identify, or other workers, if the property changes hands.
You guys did a fantastic job there at your customers property and then to actually see it working “WOW” and your customer must be happy with what you have done for them, because I know I would be, great video guys and I have also just subscribed to your channel as well as I certainly enjoy seeing this kind of work being done to such an high standard.
This is my second video of yours. If you don’t mind me saying. You should start incorporating filter fabric on your French drains and type 2 cement and molding plaster on your cement work will make your job easier and last longer. Just my 2 cents
Hi Bears - I don't use fabric because fabric clogs with fine sediment and kills the flow. By using gravel as a filter, I preserve the flow and that provides the energy to carry the fines through and out of the drain. 👍
@@GCFD where I’m from by code we are forced to wrap ballast rock in fabric so the rock doesn’t not get contaminated and the water is cleaned when absorbed by the ground
Nice job on this project. I was hoping to see the full path of the water as it was gushing through the entire channel. It looked like they needed some further work to handle the surface water coming downhill towards the culvert. That was quite a river through there!

You should try using dish soap on the rubber seal of the culvert when sliding them together. I’ve used it a few times when installing culverts. Plus I believe that it is really what the company recommends for lube because it won’t disintegrate the rubber over time. Dollar store dish soap would work fine at $1.25 for a bottle you would get many jobs out of a bottle!
The issue was all that water running along the back yard, into the front yard, and into the drainage basin. Now the water flows down the channel and through the culvert across the front yard. Water from the neighbor is impossible to stop from going in the basin but the homeowner has a front yard now.

Here in the Carolinas you just gotta pay attention to grades and stuff when buying a house. Its all clay dirt so the ground doesn't take anything in

Have you thought about spraying the weeds? I know that's less ideal for wildlife.
Spray it with a weed killer like Gate city said. There are eco friendly weed killers and can be made at home !

Keep in mind these are invasive European bees that are not native to North America. They are harmful to NA honeybees.

The issue was all that water running along the back yard, into the front yard, and into the drainage basin. Now the water flows down the channel and through the culvert across the front yard. Water from the neighbor is impossible to stop from going in the basin but the homeowner has a front yard now.
