Fantastic outcome Shawn! 👍 Looks great. As for the cable, it should have been buried long ago instead of having wires on the ground. Not your fault as you didn’t know there was a cable on the ground beneath the dumped dirt.
First of all, you removed the dirty grungy culvert, with a well deserved culvert pipe. Secondly, you made two, aesthetic openings to the pipe, leveling the ground with a smooth, leveled crown on top. And thirdly, you contoured the creek below, by also adding resistance to the downward flow. Indecently, it was big of you to repair and improve the groundwork near the media-post where the dump truck unloaded. One of the best video's I have seen in a while where you were able to show large scale redirection of water from point "A", to point "B!" Excellent Job GCF!
Great job Shawn and Ronald. Another example of function AND form. GCFD always is attentive to the artistic details (esthetics) that I’ll bet most companies overlook. The results match the beautiful setting and neighborhood. Few could pull that off as you guys did. 👍

If no one's mentioned it I appreciate that new 360 camera you're using it helps show the work you are referring to and the transition between you and what you were talking about is very smooth and doesn't disrupt the flow
Looks great and glad the home owners are happy with the result. I have to say that I do think the riprap looked more natural and in keeping with the lay of the land but of course the owners preference is what matters.
It's really beautiful, the riprap looks great but obviously it doesn't work in all cases, both the entry and exit were very well done, it's good to have the company of Ronald who knows your details at work and always brings good ideas, with Regarding the cable, I agree, more time is wasted looking for those responsible than solving it, period, a big hug ...
That Ronald is a super good employee, you need to take care of him. Teach him to operate that equipment for instance and good pay. The reason the exit side of that culvert is deformed is because you put all those big rocks on it without supporting it with some good clay all around it. Phone companies are notorious for leaving their lines lay on top the ground and not coming back to bury them for months, sometimes years, they did it on two of my properties.
I like the job you and Ronald did. When I see these deep gullies that are full of leaves, sticks and other crap right next to a beautiful lawn and house, I just shake my head. When they are first put it they do look good. After a few seasons of the crap in them, not so much. They are a lot of maintenance.
I think its the cat tv guys that scratched it in, in the first place. Although it was marked out it was not at the proper depth. You are the Cat's Meow! :) That's why you use fast setting concrete. I really like how you laid the concrete pad to stop head cutting erosion to the inlet. Burying that creek was the best idea and the ground will llok a lawn and forrest. some trees were ready to die :( as they were at the edge. Hence the chain saws! Great job with resuing the rock and making it looks real good the rain will clean it up. All those rocks would be a fortune to buy good move! Nice vdeo.
another great job! thank you for the explanation about why you went to a culvert, it made sense. the only thing i would add would be to embed rocks into the concrete as a visual transition.
This looked SO good compared to before, I understand why the owner of the property was happy with the hard work you put in, it looked very pretty when that small open part went into the culvert, nice also to hear that trickeling water :)
A mandatory 811 call would have eliminated the cable cutting. That is 100% on you. However, the trucking company should accept the responsibility of damaging the terminal and the resulting temporary line to begin with. Additionally, I believe that undercutting that poplar tree to the right of the discharge will eventually lead to its collapse as time erodes the little remaining dirt under it. The disfigured culvert on the discharge end could be a future problem as well. You 100% improved the aesthetics of that property and solved the erosion problem in that area. Overall, a good job and very informative and thought out video!
I mentioned on the King Ranch repair video that I dared you to make a video I didn’t like, well you haven’t succeeded, as you said I’d like this video. I appreciate the perspectives you put into the videos with the drone and especially the short clip with the camera mounted above the skid steer. It shows how tight of a space you were working in and I’ve “operated” a few before and it’s really impressive what you do. Great work again! Please keep it up, I decompress at the end of day by watching your channel and can’t thank you enough for the content!
Gate City Foundation Drainage - you asked whose fault was the broken internet line. I retired after 37 years with AT&T, most of that time was at a computer center help desk. Every phone, cable, and internet line I've ever seen buried by an installer was put barely under the soil. Some were actually on top of the soil. No, that wasn't a temporary fix, it's what they do. To get the line at the proper depth, the customer usually has to dig the ditch then request that the company put the line in the customer's ditch. I know that's not the right way but it's the way things are almost always done.
Great video again Shawn and great to see the homeowners commenting on your videos. Ronald is such a hard working guy, you should get him trained up on those machines if he isn't already!
Thank you Smitcher! He likes the concrete buggy but doesn't like the machines. I can get him to use the trencher but that's about it. He'll take the buggy all day long though. 👍
Excellent work! Since you asked about the low voltage wire, I'll give my opinion now. It is your job site so you should be telling the dump truck driver where to dump. The driver should not have dumped on a low voltage pedestal. I don't believe the next part happened but even if you were asking him to dump there he should not have so really you're both wrong in that situation. As far as whose fault it is the low voltage wire broke that's the company who installed wire. They did not put it down in the ground far enough and if they are running temporary wire without burying it, it has to be very clearly marked. There is industry standard for how deep low voltage wire should be buried. Therefore you should not be held liable for repair of wire if it was not buried deep enough. Good video!
As a comms guy (I deal with plant maintenance, not single drops to houses) if a contractor hits a cable and tells me where they hit it, even helps dig it out, I don't even fill out the damage claim paperwork. I've had them hit a cable and before I got there expose 2 feet of cable on either side and shore up a trench for me to work in. On the flip side, I've had contractors cut a cable, place their shoring against it to hide it then play stupid when I showed up. The people responding to those calls don't care whose fault it was in the moment, we just want to fix it. Our performance metrics include how long an outage lasts so that's the 1st thing on our mind.
what a great Job you and Ronald done, you sure made improvments to that property. The one thing I like todo with the "Concreate inlets" is when the concrete is still moveable/soft I put/press some small "river pebbles" into the concrete, once the concrete get's hard the river pebbles can't move, you can power wash them if they ever get dirty etc..
Neat job, and you got to use three different machines for it. I can remember when, I think that you didn't have any machines and you got that one you stand on at the back. I may be incorrect on that but you're getting lots of interesting projects. Thanks for bringing us along ... Cheers to you ....
I’ve watched too many of these videos because I was wondering if he’d bring the harley rake😬👍🏻 As always Shawn, you’re attention to detail is that of a true craftsman.
An ugly duckling becomes a swan. Maybe not perfect, but that was a really complex convergence of multiple water sources. Great job and happy customers. What more could you want? And no bad hats. 😃
Looks, great. Tell Ron that the shovel was definitely not him. I would say the internet was a series of small things that alone would be fine, but when all together add up to 'oh shoot!' I hope the neighbor was understanding.
The neighbor was upset because it had happened once before. I talked to him (instead of trying to brush him off or avoid him) and let him know that we would help the tech with whatever he needed to get things repaired faster.
This job had many pieces and area's that came into play for sure regarding the continual water flow from three or four different sources YIKES. Just a thought here the cable company in my opinion should have done a couple of things differently for sure laying their unprotected cable and going over/through the culvert area...duh. Overall Gate City did an outstanding job plus had GREAT VISION as to the flow of the LAND AND THE WATER plus redoing the banks and corner for a smoother flow. GOOD JOB GUY'S!!! That's the difference between your Company and whoever originally installed the old system versus the PRO'S. God Bless you all.
Very nice as usual Shawn,! That phone lines a tough one.. I hate when they scab temporary lines and never seem to make it back to bury them properly. I don't feel I should be concerned with utilities while scraping sod per say but unfortunately accidents happen. Invisible dog fences are a pain as well cause they are extremely shallow and never marked since its a private line. Helping open up the damaged area at least makes it seem as you are sorry for doing it and I do the same. Enjoy watching and again, nice job!
Super impressed with the work ethic by Ronald on every job. The rock work around the culvert is so pretty. I started watching and didnt think the drainage ditch was bad until you finished, and wow does it look and function like a dream. I bet that is such a pleasure to mow now that all that riprap is covered. If I lived closer I would only have two questions: when can you start; also, is Ronald going to be on the job too?
Thank you! I try to get Ronald on every job, for sure! He and I worked today and even with two people we got everything finished up. Tomorrow we have Jeremy too.
I agree that you did a great job of smoothing over the land and correcting the drainage. About the cables, I noticed there were location flags. This indicates that cables and utilities were supposed to have been located and marked. From experience, I can tell you that those flags or paint marks are not 100% accurate. There are several things at work in this situation. The utility location was not very accurate or thorough. The utility crew that left a cable basically on the ground surface should not have done so, they were lazy. The dump truck driver should not have dumped the dirt where he did without prior approval. You did well in trying to rectify the problem. I recently(late September 2022) lost my telephone and internet connection to a truck taking out a telephone cable above the street and then having problems getting a new internet service connected. It seems as if many of these service crews are lazy and don't care how they do their jobs.
Sir I like the way you are doing business as a contractor if you keep doing business that way you will have nothing but good blessings from all of that and I think you're a good contractor if I could give you 10 stars I would give you two you for that so keep treating customers the way you would like to be treated as a homeowner a good luck with your business
I appreciate that you didn't lower your standards. I had the same issue, the school told me I had to pass everyone. I didn't, needless to say I didn't work there very long.
Lovely place the customer has. I can see why they wanted that ugly gully fixed. That turned out really nice Shawn. Ya'll do such good work. Cable companies can be lazy. After all they usually are a monopoly in a specific area. I had a temp line laying in my yard for at least 6 months. Pain in the butt mowing around the thing for all those months before they finally got around to burying a new cable. Feel real sorry of the guy that lost his internet not once, but twice. I bet he was in terror that it would get taken out a third time. 🤣
All four parties bear some responsibility. 1) Dump truck guy for starting the trouble. 2) Cable guy for half-assing the burial. He could have at least buried some caution tape a couple inches above the wire, marked it with landscape flags, or simply hung a sign on the junction box. 3) Sean because I didn't hear mention of having the locator service check it out before he started digging. 4) The property owner because I find it hard to believe the cable guy didn't inform them of the temporary nature of the cable, especially if they intended to come back later to do it right. Quite possible given the cable guy's quality of work but at the same time, they ought to know what's happening on their property,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Tom. I did have the utilities located, but they often don't mark internet lines for whatever reason. They don't charge anyone when the locate was called in but the utility failed to mark.
You can see they came and marked with orange paint near the new Inlet. Shawn knows better than to not have them out ahead of time. They just failed at their job.. Again

Love culvert videos. Looked great too without a huge ditch next to the driveway.
I am really happy with how this one came out 👍
I like your helper. good footage. Looks so much better. Keep that guy Ronald.
Yes he's a keeper for sure. Another commenter blamed me for being a bad operator, but Ronald just likes to stay busy.
@@GCFDYes. He get's in on his own. You are a good team and help out properties. from outside Philly.
great video. Awesome to see your mom also. thank you guys
@@GCFD Fair enough. He puts his other skills to good use anyway. Thanks for taking the time to reply Shawn.
Great work for only two people !! The area looks so much better too ...
Another awesome job! Man that looked like fun. I missed you guys. Keep them coming.
Thank you Andy!
What a crew. Professional as professional can be.
Thank you John! 👍
what a great Job you and Ronald done, you sure made improvments to that property. The one thing I like todo with the "Concreate inlets" is when the concrete is still moveable/soft I put/press some small "river pebbles" into the concrete, once the concrete get's hard the river pebbles can't move, you can power wash them if they ever get dirty etc..
Good job. Very nice to see how it all worked out.😀
Beautiful work.
Outstanding work! And a amazing property 🙂
Thank you! I really liked this one too.
Big job for just the two of you. Great job.
For sure. This one took a few days.
Neat job, and you got to use three different machines for it. I can remember when, I think that you didn't have any machines and you got that one you stand on at the back. I may be incorrect on that but you're getting lots of interesting projects. Thanks for bringing us along ... Cheers to you ....
Yes I got the trencher, the small mini ex, and then the mini bobcat (that you stand on). 👍👍
Nice work Shawn and Ronald!
I’ve watched too many of these videos because I was wondering if he’d bring the harley rake😬👍🏻
As always Shawn, you’re attention to detail is that of a true craftsman.
You know it's gonna be a good time when he breaks out the Harley.
Thank you RP! I really like the harley rake!
Ronald seems like a good hand to have on the job.
He is fantastic for sure!
Love your work. Great job guys
Thank you!
An ugly duckling becomes a swan. Maybe not perfect, but that was a really complex convergence of multiple water sources. Great job and happy customers. What more could you want? And no bad hats. 😃
Haha Steven, the Sun's been out this week so the hats are back out!
@@GCFD 😖
Your best video yet, beautiful job
Roger is a hell of a worker!!
👍
Super impressed with the work ethic by Ronald on every job. The rock work around the culvert is so pretty. I started watching and didnt think the drainage ditch was bad until you finished, and wow does it look and function like a dream. I bet that is such a pleasure to mow now that all that riprap is covered. If I lived closer I would only have two questions: when can you start; also, is Ronald going to be on the job too?
Thank you! I try to get Ronald on every job, for sure! He and I worked today and even with two people we got everything finished up. Tomorrow we have Jeremy too.
Funny name you have there.
Hey Shawn, this is about the only time I've ever seen you use corrugated! 😁
This is double wall corrugated! It's rigid and smooth on the inside.
@@GCFD Oh, that's cool. I didn't know there was such a thing. Now that I think about it you did show that in the video 😁
Sir I like the way you are doing business as a contractor if you keep doing business that way you will have nothing but good blessings from all of that and I think you're a good contractor if I could give you 10 stars I would give you two you for that so keep treating customers the way you would like to be treated as a homeowner a good luck with your business
Another awesome video. Beautiful work!
Thank you Jonny!
I love your work 🙌🏽
Great video, good story-telling, thanks.
Thank you Bill!
Was happy to see you to straighten the lower gulley, a bit. Good work like usual.
Thank you Erwin!
Looks great. Well done!
Thank you D
A beautiful job Shawn. 5 ⭐️
Thank you!
Great vid and content..... Solving drainage problems, Thats GCFD
Thank you william! 👍
Thank you for the special educational entertainment I enjoyed greatly! 💙
Nice looking job Shaun, well done you guys. Regards
Thank you Alec! 👍
Great job guys looks very nice
That looks way better. Nice work!
Thank you!
I appreciate that you didn't lower your standards. I had the same issue, the school told me I had to pass everyone. I didn't, needless to say I didn't work there very long.
After 15 years of teaching I'm doing drainage work. Who would have thought?
You really have the coolest scenery there!
Josh
Lovely place the customer has. I can see why they wanted that ugly gully fixed. That turned out really nice Shawn. Ya'll do such good work. Cable companies can be lazy. After all they usually are a monopoly in a specific area. I had a temp line laying in my yard for at least 6 months. Pain in the butt mowing around the thing for all those months before they finally got around to burying a new cable. Feel real sorry of the guy that lost his internet not once, but twice. I bet he was in terror that it would get taken out a third time. 🤣
Thank you! Hopefully his internet people will lay that line properly and there won't be a third time!
Great job man!! You do awesome work
Thank you!
Must be pretty strong culvert to take the weight of the skid steerer. Nice job
Yes that's double wall corrugated. It's good stuff.
Again
That could be a fun waterslide for the neighborhood kids during the summer! I did't expect the inside to be so smooth!
Yes that's double-wall corrugated culvert pipe. It's smooth on the inside.
That neighborhood must be so safe and peaceful since it's protected from random people driving or even walking by. A lot of work though. Nice job!
👍👍
Thalweg! That’s a man that knows his drainage.
Hahah, From my days working as an aquatic ecologist/entomologist.
I like the Flinstone like stone placement work around the pipe.
Thank you! It's a very creative process to select stones and try to make them look nice.
Great video, Shawn. Curious mix of function and appearance but looks like you did a terrific job as usual.
Thank you!
