Draining A Swamp

- Draining a swampy area down to dig a 150' long ditch for another contractor to install a french drain. A friend of mine did the site work on this building a few years back and nothing was done with this area. It hadn't really been an issue until this year with all the rain. I was just hired to dig the ditch and he was going to finish the drain and clean it up with his Case loader. They didn't feel the need to put fabric in the ditch just some pipes and clean rock. I also found out I need to come up with some new mounting areas for the camera lol! Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Takeuchi #TB260
I'm so glad you saved this to post - draining swamps are always fun! To make a "conclusion" I suppose you could drive by and do a quick walk-around, but this was actually pretty interesting just with what you showed. It doesn't look like it probably smelled to good in there, but kudos for avoiding an actual sewer so far! With every dip, you get better with that grading bucket. Good job.
Dale Premo yeah it’s annoying I really don’t have a conclusion on this video but I wanted to use it cause of the other shots I got. I can definitely go back by and do a follow up. And yes amen on no sewer lol!
Love my 36 in grading bucket.
Yeah this is my first grading bucket! I love it can’t believe I didn’t get one sooner lol
You're working on the wrong swamp lol 😂
Josh Welner lol dammit
Don't know about MO but here in KY that would be a breeding ground to grow skeeters that would be big enough to carry you away!
Mrs. S.O.T. Metalworks same here!
Same in DC- except we call them 'Reporters' or 'Media'
Those poor people they aren't buying KFC they are renting it for about 30 min to an hour
Call chris and ask him what he uses for wash and wax actually ask Tim we know christine just bitches and looks pretty lol
gavin hirt lol that is true! And yes I would have to check with Tim on that 🤣
Glad you didn’t delete the footage! We got an awesome video and got to watch the new machine work! Thanks for sharing! And btw, when are you going to let BigDog37 get on the new machine?
Junkyard’s Garage thanks man! He may have his turn tomorrow 😉🤣
Good work brother
Kenny Sanchez thanks man!
Before I watch it.... hope you flush out some of those Congress Creatures!
Flush is right! I bet those folks in the drive-thru got a snoot full!
Good thing you got it in before yesterday’s deluge!
William Harris lol yeah no kidding what’s up with all the trump comments? Lol
Seems like everyone else had Trump comments too....... after all you did title the video "Drain the swamp". Lol.... some of us couldn't resist a little poke at it...all in good taste buddy
Trump has popularized the expression... you opened the door. I threw a little Mark Twain through it.
He was the first person I heard use Congress Creatures to describe the inhabitants of the muck in the swamp. He wasn’t particularly fond of them, “Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a Congress Creature. But I repeat myself.”
William Harris lol gotcha yeah Mrs. Elite filled me in on that this morning 🤦🏼♂️🤣. I guess it would help if I watched the news but I don’t keep up with any of that crap. I just don’t have the time lol
Always told ya you needed a meth head bucket! Now to just get ya a 4n1 for the skid loader and you will be big deal. Hope you’re liking the new machine. Can’t believe your already sticking it in mud holes.
SLC Farms lol yep I finally did. Maybe someday a 4n1 but I would hold my breath. Yeah I didn’t want to put it in the mud 😒
You're wrong. What you actually need is Donald Trump.
Just turn your head sideways, we can look through your ears 😂😂 Kermit the frog is going to hate you 😂😂 Great job love the picture in picture!
Kirk Overly I didn’t think about that, great idea!! Yes he is! 🤣 thank you!
I didn't realize you could reach Washington DC from there !! Lol
Tom Del Casale me neither lol
I liked it man. Nice seeing the new machine in action. Maybe you can do a revisit and show the end product at a later date. See if these guys work is up to par 😂
SLC Farms thank you! I could do that, I’m thinking they are not 🤣
Man, I’d kill for $2.15 a gallon up here in NY
Hey I love the equipment but I'm not sure about the legality of playing with retention pond attached to a gas station. Couple questions, first off was the county or State Environmental agency contacted about the correction of the water flow. Run off from gas stations or adjacent parking to a gas station normally has to be filtered was some sort of a substrate and annually cleaned and usually burned off. That is why over half of the gasoline stations in your state have built in incinerators or separation tanks that have the runoff collected in.
I am sure you're helping a buddy out here by using out your new equipment but, you have to be aware of the regulations for petroleum stations.
I've seen a few or your videos where I'm sure OSHA would have had a field day with you digging without side walls or providing the proper side grade. Those rules were put in to protect your safety so you can go home to your family at night. Be careful using the mini equipment on major jobs for the Savings of other people's money.
You LOL try paying $1.19 a liter
Ben Crossgrove I bet sure it’s not cheap up there.
Bill Mcdonald this wasn’t a retention pond it was just a low spot that was never addressed when they built the KFC. The gas station does have its own retention under the parking and an incinerator. It doesn’t run to this area. Yes I just did the digging for the friend of mine, he had engineered prints of the digging the ditch like we did. He just put two 4” pipes in instead of one 8” like the prints showed I’m guessing it was cheaper. I’m sure OSHA would have a field with a lot of what I run into. I would say I’m 90% of my videos I just do the digging for someone. If these were my jobs you can beat I would have a trench box or bench them back more than what I do for these others. I do a lot of work for cheap pushy contractors and it’s annoying as all get out. I am looking for a trench box because now the city has to be on site for any main you tap. Which is great because you will have to have a box. Much better chance someone won’t die that way. Thanks again for the concern
Brother, from my perspective, ALL video is GOOD!!!👌 that to me makes it real. Nice maneuvering around the irrigation lines. "You are one with machine 👲grasshopper"😂😂😂 GREAT VIDEO as always my my friend!👍👍
Silver Grizzly lol thank you! Good to hear. 🤣 I like that one with the machine 👍🏻
Gas here in Idaho is $2.95 per gallon and diesel is $2.97.
Clyde Acor gas in australia is 1.54 a litre so over 6 a gallon so you still have it good
@@bigears4426 yes much of the world has it a lot worse than we do in the states especially European countries. I've heard that California is around $5 per gallon now but not surprised. I've also heard that in Venezuela that gas is pennies per gallon, they can't hardly give it away.
Upstate-New York (Syracuse) $2.86, Dover Delaware $2.31
Clyde Acor I’m sure ours will go up. I pretty much quit paying attention to it, got to have it lol
😂 you joining letsdig 18 in the mud party digging mud 😂 he’s a pro when it comes to that
I think I will 🤣🤣
Damm........ $2.15 a gallon........ good deal 👍
Edmund Appel lol I guess
I am pretty sure that I saw one of those federally protected frogs! Yes, in fact, there appears to be a black SUV parked at the gas station filming you!
Marvin Carvin lol I’m on a list now 🤣
Yep, they will be breaking down your door and dragging you away. They will confiscate and sell your new Takeuchi for ten cents on the dollar. Hmmm... maybe Chris will pick it up? Do you think the TB260 can understand a S.C. drawl? :)

GLAD you mentioned NO Landscaping Fabric installed ( Per Direction of Client )
= NOT your choice / Scope of Work
Landscaping Fabric is a Critical Piece of an Overall LONG Term
( Once and Done Project ) in my humble viewpoint
Assists in a Large Way TO PREVENT Dirt from filling up the drain Pipes over Time
I agree it cracks me up how people think they are really saving money by not putting it in. They really pay for it later lol. Appreciate the comment
The best why I figured how to to under ground drainage system is a.
perforated pipe surrounded with the popcorn with a sock, this is a 3 in one system.
Is illuminates time,labor, & mess.
In most cases it’s cheaper or if not the same price as if you were to do rock with vapor barrier. (Also love your videos👍👍, just bought a th260 as well I love it
That sounds like a great idea. Thanks! Oh sweet! The 260 is an awesome machine!
Looks like somebody is starting to like the grading bucket. They definitely should have used fabric around that French drain. It'll work for a while without it but it would last a lot longer with the fabric I've found. I like the new machine though.
Blackdog Tractor/Excavator yes I love that grading bucket should have bought one years ago lol. Yeah that’s what I have ran into. But of course everyone wants it as cheap as possible even if it doesn’t work for long 🤷🏼♂️
I understand the reasons for doing this, and eliminating a maintenance and mosquito problem. BUT, I also think that planting the area with reeds, willows and other wetland plants would be better for both the physical and visual environment. Shame that people cannot chose what they want to see.
That would make sense but since it’s a commercial site they wanted to be able to mow it. Appreciate you watching
What size is the grading bucket ?...& Here's a prime example of where the heli- tilt/ rotator attachment comes in handy....mine is coming in first week in August..can't wait
Tom Del Casale it’s a 42” that’s cool
Great in-cab camera angle “of the back of yur head” 🙄😉. Honestly, at least this job wasnt a sewer line or a backed up septic system. 😂
D C thanks 🤪🤣 that is true could be worse
I'd have filled that in. Once the rains come, it'll all just slooch down there again, and you'll be back to square one.
It’s what the contractor wanted it’s held up pretty well since they used rip rap to line the pipe
Shouldn’t you have kept your 153 and given it to your mrs? Then you’d get some work done 😂😂
Oliver lol yes’s I should have and for muddy jobs like this 🤣
Nice project..quick 💰 makers.
Tri-County Masonry & Excavating 'Dirt Boss' that’s right! Got to love them!
Quick tip, go to farthest side, lay bucket flat, trak towards low spot , keeping slight down pressure, you leave a debris free glass smooth bottom for drainage.
david m thanks I will give that a try
Is it allowed to drain this in a legal way? Usually these areas are secured grounds for animals and plants, or not? Just a question, I am not a tree hugger ;)
MrPummi88 it’s not suppose to be holding water it’s at a KFC and the area is suppose to drain off but it wasn’t built right
no offense man. But i really hope that you loaded that dirt out otherwise you would be creating a silting problem which is the reason the drainage was so bad in the first place
We did the contractor I was digging for loaded it up in his dump truck
You have done a good 👍 job on Draining the swamp I love ❤️ your video 📷 the are so amazing I can't wait for the next video 📷 #DrainingSwamp

Zach Stanger the contractor I was digging for
We did that here in Houston and so far is worked out well, I even have a lake right outside my house. Now excuse me while i go and get my boat
DragonKidSlayer3 good to hear! It’s been working good so far! 🤞🏻
You are certainly the biggest, badest, guy on the playground with that grading bucket Brandon!

lakesideranch lol thanks! I love the bucket very handy! Thanks again
Took these guys a few hours, trump cant drain it after years???

Stagnant water must be ripe, plus breeding ground for west nile.
Dennis Brown oh yes it’s terrible
Pull up to the drive-thru window in your machine then extend the bucket to have your food put in it lol
bighurk30 lol funny you say that I put a picture on Instagram with me pulling up to the drive thru in the excavator 🤣
I'm sure Chris is going to jealous of that...he can't do that in the 160,220,250 !!!
@@delcasaleexcavating9508 ... yes he can, those things can go anywhere they want.
with no cover over drainage pipe it will be plugged within a year.
Zildorn it won’t even last that long 🤣
while On farms when I have dug them out they stay good for a few years but once the rain come down the soil in the ponds will moves the bed this swamp are not stable as long as there fast run off it would not have lasted the only why to fix this would have been to line it with concrete
jcr65566 agree it really just needs regraded it’s not even suppose to be a pond or swamp it’s just a low area
@@eliteearthworksllc You done a job as good a job as there going to get with out spending a lot of money As long as the water can get drain away the grass will eventfully grew.
jcr65566 thanks man
Stabilization fabric? you got the touch on that excavator.
Dennis Brown thanks! I was just doing the digging for another contractor on this job and I couldn’t talk him in to using the fabric. I think it was something he had to fix on his dime
This was a good video...dont delete the small jobs. Always something interesting to watch.

Hi Brandon. I am glad to see the new machine in action .it is interesting also to see the views from 2 different angels.that is awesome . I wonder what you gona get to replace your aging skid dteer.. and a small tipper all the best .
Job well done .
Rafid Ishak thank you! I’ll probably get a new TL12R2 at some point. It may be a year or two from now. Thanks again!
One mosquito pit emptied! Your gas is 30 cents a gallon cheaper than here in Nebraska.
Rich Wielechowski lol yes that is a mess. That’s crazy on the gas
You need to get a" Timmy" so he can dig around the pipes and do the manual labor... I know you're good at operating but it's a lot of work if you hit one of those irrigation lines
Tom Del Casale maybe so, the irrigation lines aren’t bad I installed a ton of those back when I was landscaping
I don't have a Timmy either because I don't have the patience to deal with whiny "babies" crying every time I tell them to pay attention to what I told him to do instead of worrying about who's texting you !! And all they care about is when's lunch and what time are we working until ? WTF !!!!
Like any new thing you use time will make it easier, can't expect to look like a professional on it after 3 days just keep plugging away.
barry hansen that is true. Thanks Barry
Wrong application for a french drain!
Drop inlet boxes, fill and grade to the boxes that you install:)
French drain will collect the underground water, the surface rock will fill with silt and clog and then you'll have a flooding problem after diminishing the retention area:(
Bold Guy it wasn’t my job I just did the digging for another contractor. It’s not even suppose to be a retention area just a grass spot really just needs regraded
@@eliteearthworksllc I realized that, sometimes our job is more than digging!
By the look of it, it has become a defacto retention basin.
I sometimes call our job, nurturing towards a positive conclusion:)
Bold Guy I agree with that! Lol
Sounds like something our awesome president would say......lol
Randy J lol
Damn spoil pile always in the way, lol! I use the heal of my bucket when trying to get water to move, don't have to worry about holding grade with the cutting edge so much and leaves that slick finish. Congrats on the new machine too. It took me a bit to get used to using a grading bucket, like anything else time will get you there. Might want to think about making ground contact after your bucket change, cant always rely on that button. I know a man personally that had a bucket drop off a big machine on the back of his leg in a ditch, lucky to be alive. Another not too long ago was not as lucky unfortunately.
OpEng Chris lol yeah I wasn’t even thinking 🤦🏼♂️. That’s a good idea cause using the cutting edge was a bit of a pain. Yeah I normally put the bucket on the ground to double check, once again I guess I wasn’t paying attention. Thanks again
Is that a swamp or a small ditch filled with rain water....
It’s a ditch at a commercial site that was never graded right
Lovely Takeuchi mate! 👏🏻
Thank you! I love them!
Even these clipped videos are great. I will still watch. I like them all.
Joel Hershberger awesome thank you! Appreciate that
Brandon....really like watching your vids. Question for you but first quick background. I am a small time landscaper. Looking to do bigger jobs. I have skidsteer, dump trailers, etc. I am looking at a 2013 Tak TB138. It has 1900 hours. Looks to be well taken care of. Can you tell me what I should be looking for before buying? Also, can I add a quick coupler to it? It's manual connect with pins and it would be nice to switch out buckets from inside cab. Also, do you use a 6 way blade much and should I look for a machine with that or is a straight blade fine for most applications? Thank you.
Thank you! Make sure all the pins and bushings look good and there is not a ton of play in them. Check the boom for any cracks especially around where the thumb cylinder is welded on. Check the undercarriage sprockets and rollers. Also for any leaks or wet areas. Make sure you can lift the machine by pushing the bucket down tells you how strong the pump is. Yes you can add an aftermarket quick coupler, my new one has a Werk Brau hydraulic coupler on it. The angle blade is handy but not necessary so I wouldn’t sweat that. Best of luck with the purchase too! 👍🏻
@@eliteearthworksllc thank you!
aj12271 your welcome!
Do you know if they put catch basins in on either end? Here if they don't use fabric they use washed concret rock usually 3/4 or 1". Being washed there isn't any dust on the rock to blind the drain holes. And you didn't think you were gonna need a grading bucket.
Brian Gardiner yes they did and that was 3/4” clean rock we backfilled with. Lol yeah no kidding that’s all I used again today
nice job sir,you will be a pro in no time.love your vids and the two camera view can't wait for the next one.

Is that grading bucket a 42”?
Yes 42” Werk Brau
I kind of have some swampy areas on my property instead of having swamps. I kind of want to turn them into large ditches to regain some land. Do you think this is possible to accomplish?
You should be able too if you can get them to drain off and dry a bit
Elite Earthworks LLC well I don’t think I could get them to drain completely. They’d just have to be turning into ditches instead of swamps. What it is, is a big pond but the back of it is open so then the swampy areas can drain into it. However whenever it’s high... it makes the swampy areas fill back up. So instead of swampy areas I want them to be ditches instead. It’ll still be able to expand and contract but into ditches instead of swamps. Biggest fear is getting equipment stuck back where I’d need them.
I gotcha may have to find some mats like Letsdig18 has if it’s that soft
