- A quick field report with young Gavin Swanson of the Luscombe Aircraft Corporation and a close look at a nearly new 2012 Luscombe LSA-8.
The Luscombe Aircraft Corporation also specializes in Luscombe Rebuilds back to factory specs in their factory jigs, for less than the cost of a new one.

Had a fantastic trip! Left Chino CA Sunday, March 7th, and made it to Jamestown NY Wednesday, March 10th! For my first long Xcountry as PIC, it went very smoothly! I'm blessed that the Luscombe Aircraft Corporation has given me these opportunities! I have fallen in love with the Luscombe Model 8 airframe and look forward to selling what I think is a fantastic airplane! In Chino, I had the privilege of meeting great people and having outstanding experiences, like flying 7 different aircraft types and having the privilege of meeting some outstanding people like Juan! Thank you all for the support it's been an amazing journey!
You rock...
Good to hear, wish you well
Love it, didn’t hear the hp
you gavin, you are a legend! just passing by to say this. i wish you well, you seem to be a good lad
Gavin - You are an inspirational young man. I am happy to see the "Resurrection" of Luscombe aircraft. In 1951, I was a Civil Air Patrol cadet with Squadron 612 - Chicago Heights, Illinois. I remember riding as observer on a SARCAP training mission with one of the squadron pilots who owned a Luscombe. Great airplane - operated well out of grass strips like Governor's Airpark where we were based. Very best wishes to you in your aviation endeavors.
18 years old.... this kid has a great future in aviation, smart beyond his years!
He does sounds like a scripted non-player character though. That natural conversation flow will come with time - he certainly has the articulation down.
He certainly cannot drag tail in that operation! Oh wait!
@@user936 But he really knows his stuff!
@@awuma yes 🙂 but you sell like that, it has to come from the heart.
This young man is a very good spokesperson.
That's correct :)
@@adameczek4541 That young gentleman is not only eloquent but very slick. One or two overly salesperson answers, but he is only 18. The more he absorbs the tech information the better he will get.
@@COIcultist I was thinking the same sort of thing. But I do hope he has a great future.
I sent an email to Gavin's boss (and got a reply) telling him he has a sharp salesman! Thanks Juan for giving this airplane international attention!
@Jonathan Rute I'm happy to hear you took the time to do that for Gavin, he truly represented the new Luscombe company very well.
Mr Swanson is an amazing young man. Luscombe is very fortunate to have him aboard. Great video, Juan
You want an ambassador for general aviation in the USA? Young Mr. Swanson is it.
That kid is going places! at around 80 kts, but he's getting there! :)
Juan, you must be proud and you deserve that feeling.
At 18 he’s a very impressive young man who acts more like 30.
Yes! Buy a new Luscombe!!!
Wow ! To say I'm impressed with young Gavin is an understatement ! I'm predicting a very bright future for Luscombe !
Sharp young man, he's got a bright future
Impressive young man, when so many airliners are being pensioned off due to economic reasons its good to see a bright future for GA aircraft.
That kid really knows his stuff! Very impressive.
His Civil Air Patrol participation and training are shining through in this interview. Knowledge, focus, articulation and command presence are outstanding. Semper Vigilans!
I’d probably be in prison now instead of a Former B52 Gunner and veteran if not for Civil Air Patrol, where I ended up the cadet commander of my squadron, and got a flight scholarship from them, getting me my ppl at 17.
Love the way he uses ‘Sir’ a lot😀
And I actually think he MEANS it!! In a very respectful way.
I've noticed that's a very American thing. That's not done here in Australia outside of school or business. We have other ways of showing respect.
UPDATE: Gavin made it home in record time to Jamestown New York on Wed. 10 March! Hopefully he'll post his stats here soon. Juan.
Good to hear.
Thanks JB
Where do I go to purchase a Blancolirio t-shirt? Thanks.
I want one of these. This young man is going to be known as the new "Mr. Luscombe". What a great salesman. This video is worth its airplane's weight in gold for the free marketing by Juan. Good luck Luscombe.
What a fantastic opportunity for both the young man and his employer, I hope they know what an asset he can be.
To inspire a kid with your old Luscombe to build you a new one a few years later. Life rarely gets that good
Good to see a young man carry himself so well. Never heard a you know or a stammer,,unheard of these days. Did you notice that twinkle in Juans eye? Hope he brings us along to pick up his new ride!
And he NEVER said "LIKE"!! I'm impressed!!
Juan is on the hook for sure 😀😀
Son-of-a-gun, this was a cool video.
Congratulations to this young man and the new Luscombe Company.
Good job !
I want to thank Mr. Swanson's parents! That young man is most impressive and it is no accident.
Mr. Swanson knows his product...impressed!👍
What an outstanding young man, renews my faith in todays generation.
The kids are darn good. Go for it. How does Juan find this talent? Very inspiring.
Who needs to go to college when you have better things to do at 18.
@@jandejong2430 Who? Many folk. At 18 years old lots of people are better off in college than "doing better things". Your guidance is very weak.
@@roderickcampbell2105
Not always. This young man is making his own future rather than to be set on a different path by indoctrination specialists. Pros and cons to both avenues.
Wow perfect! I flight in a luscombe here in Argentina, south America, the best news of week!
What a great passionate young guy
I would say the new owners have a good one in their stable and they better keep him running a good long time for them. Excellent work young man.
blancolirio DEFINITELY NEEDS a new Luscombe !!! The future is blurry, history is very clear.......
He’s just bought a new old plane, so no....
“The airport rat gets the cheese”. Truer words never spoken. My progression went from shop apprentice, line guy, A&P, Cfi, and then airline pilot. Hang out at the airport long enough and someone is bound to show you how to use a wrench and/or take you flying
Gavin is a terrific ambassador for this new Luscombe company! He has a real belief and enthusiasm for this new enterprise😉
Bright, impressive, well spoken young man ! 👍💯
Juan, the young man you spoke with is extremely polished for an 18 yr.old. I think his future at Luscombe Aircraft is unlimited ! He has the opportunity of a lifetime getting into a company on the ground floor. I wish him continued success in promoting the Luscombe Aircraft brand of light sport aircraft .
Very knowledgeable and articulate young man. He is going to have a stellar career in aviation. Thanks, Juan.
Impressive young man.
Great interview Juan, you treated that kid like an equal and that is really saying something, and he is a hellava confident well spoken young man!
Good Report. It fun to see young people involved in aviation.
If only more young people had this lad’s attitude
That young man is going places for sure and I wish this new company much success. And oh, if I were 15 years younger I'd seriously consider getting one. My Dad used to have a Luscombe 8-F when I was about 8 years old. It was a good performing airplane and I have many great memories flying with my dad.
Wonderful. My former Luscombe was made in 1947 and he is still flying.
Built in the USA but no longer in California! I wonder why? LOL! Very impressive. This young man is on the ball. So good to see young people with a sense of direction and purpose. He will go a long way in aviation.
Manufacturing anything in California is a real conundrum. They've been doing everything possible to destroy manufacturing.
Hope New York works out for them. NY suffers from some issues...that's a long story.
I have my fingers crossed.
The mention of Harris Ranch brought back some great and tasty memories. We would fly out of Buchannan Field in Concord and an hour later enjoy a fabulous steak dinner
Those night departures on moonless nights always got your full attention--especially departing to the south! Great memories (formerly LVK-based)
Tell Luscombe to give that kid a pay raise.
Good luck Mr. Swanson. You have a great future.
Wonderful to hear the passion of this young man. Something to see how his employment, like the aircraft, is ready to climb.
I’m the owner of 1948 Luscombe 8A N1441B, and I’m happy to hear this news. Gavin is a heck of a representative, my best to him ... nice job.
Ah, the exuberance of youth! Nice, intelligent and motivated young man, best of luck on your aircraft venture!
Ths young man has the "right stuff". What amazing poise and communication skills for someone of this age.
Young man knows his details, history and obviously loves what he's involved in. Enthusiasm and a solid business plan will take him far. Thanks for sharing this development, JB.
Civil Air Patrol should be very proud of young man . Parents should look into CAP for their children.
My first airplane was a 1946 Luscombe 8E, (N45765). It was the most fun plane I ever owned and regret ever having sold it. Getting rid of the mechanical heel brakes will be a big improvement! (If you had to use them hard, the cable stretched and no or little brakes till you readjusted them.) I earned my private license in my Luscombe. I bought it in 1975 for $4200. It wasn't a hard plane to fly or land, but you did have to pay attention. It made you a better pilot! I'm glad to hear it is going back into production. Long live Luscombe!
So great to see a young person so passionate about airplanes. That was a beauty! Best of luck to him.
NICE!! And yes, of course, you should get a NEW plane! You can get your own hanger strip at your home base and start a collection that wont quit.
Highly interesting. Gavin is an excellent and enthusiastic spokesman for this aircraft/company.
A very well spoken young man, keep it up Gavin. Thanks for the update Juan.
Great video! Gavin enjoying himself, Juan asking the right questions.
That is soooo cool brining those old aircraft back to the forefront of aviation, especially with all of the advancements in technology and light weight materials.
I love it! My very first time in an aircraft was in 1973, a retired USAF SMSgt took me up in his Luscombe and opened my world to aerobatics!❤️
Get that kickstarter going. I'll support you!!
First GA airplane I ever rode in was a Luscombe. That was 60 years ago, I guess they have passed the test of time.
Outstanding guy! Thanks, Juan. Very nice job...
Wow, does this video bring back memories. I starting flying in 1965 and am checked out in 28 different type of airplanes, most taildraggers, and only flew for 21 years. The Luscombe 8A was by far my favorite taildragger and when you fly a Luscombe you will become a better taildragger pilot. The new Luscombe LSA has all the great options that were not available on the 8A. The young man who spoke for the new Luscombe company is extremely well spoken and a real asset to the new company. Wish you all the best.
It's great to see kids like him. That was me years ago when I could give all the stats of a B-17 at 12 years old and name all the gauges on the instrument panel.
Great video. Holy smokes, Mr Swanson is 18?? What a great spokesman for this company.
The young man did a good job. Get one Juan.
Pete's saving up his allowance
Best wishes to Gavin. My time was in an 8E Silvaire, then more hours in an 8A. Both manual starts. I used to help polish a bare aluminum AT-6; using Met-Al cleaning polish. Buffing was done with clean diapers and flour. Gave a show class finish.
If the new Luscombe Aircraft Corp succeeds and thrives, this kid will be a huge part of that. While I currently own a V35 Bonanza and I'm not in the market for a new airplane, his sales pitch and positive attitude made me want to buy one anyways.
Actually, I have a soft spot for the Luscombe, since I did my primary flight training in one back in the dinosaur days when I was Gavin's age. One thing I'm glad won't be on the new aircraft are the mechanical heel brakes that caused me considerable angst as a student pilot.
Wow! This kid Gavin is amazing! This was more exciting than watching Steve Jobs introduce the first iPhone.
How does an 18-year-old know so much about aviation? He talks about that plane like he's in his 30s. Wow! What a long, bright future he has ahead. :) Fantastic! And so delightful and positive. Very refreshing and very encouraging. I hope we have thousands more like him in our country. We've got Pete, that's for sure! :)
@Andrew Good news. There are thousands more. You may not see them, because they're busy.

Nice to hear and youngest who know his subject. Well done.
What an articulate young man! Best wishes for great success with the Luscombe Aircraft Corporation, Gavin.
My Heart sank, I thought you sold Pete's plane 😁 This young man can grow old with a great career ahead of him in aviation with the Luscombe. Simple, proven and safe is what the Light Sport needs to keep aviation alive at local airports. I grew up around the Cessna 150 with my Grandfather and today enjoy the memories of our afternoon flights on Sunday.
Man o man. My eyes are tearing up. I 'grew up' in a Luscombe 8 (in the '70s). My father had one and would take me up in it on the weekends. Seeing this, the memories are flooding back. Such a good boy! Im gonna start saving my dimes. :) (And yes, that kid is VERY on the ball. Great spokesman for the company!)
That kid is great, you can tell he has the passion like many of us. Good for him and already living out his dream at such a young age. Even though I’ve been living out my dream flying commercial, charter, corporate, etc for close to 15 years, and private for over 20. There’s a small part of me that wishes I was in his shoes. Awesome! Love it
So great seeing these aircraft. In 1967 through 69. I owned the Luscombe 8F it was such a joy wonderful to fly. I miss it
Wow, does this video bring back memories. I starting flying in 1965 and only flew for 21 years before I had to give it up. I am checked out in 28 different types of airplanes, mostly taildraggers, and the Luscombe 8A was by far my favorite. Fly a Luscombe and you will become a better tail wheel pilot. The young man who did the interview for the new Luscombe company is extremely well spoken for 18 years old, a good asset for the new company. Wishing your company the best.
What an awesome young man. Juan I think it would very fitting for you to get the first or one of the first new Luscombe's.
I grew up flying in my dad's Luscombe, to air shows and fly ins.
Stan Finberg, if you fly a Luscombe, maybe you knew him.
I wish he were still alive to see this, he loved Luscombe second only to his family.
This is great news!
Best wishes for the success of this venture.
Gavin has a very bright future. I hope there are lots of other young people that follow in his steps.
One more thing, I saw Juan grinning pretty wide during this whole interview!! I think he was proud of h is Luscombe, AND it's newest generation of supporters!! I agree, this kid IS the future!! And through him, it looks better!
Than young man is sharp as a tick just like his plane. Hope he has a safe trip back to NY.
Tick or Tack?
It's great to see another storied aircraft company return to the field to produce new airframes and parts. This new incarnation of the Luscombe company and Viking Air who purchased the type certificates for the de Havilland Canada will be able to produce new aircraft and the parts to keep the existing birds in the air is a win for general aviation today!
Great report on the new Luscombe and outstanding young man representing the new Luscombe corporation. Making me miss my Luscombe Juan.
What a fantastic young salesman.
I was his age when I had my first flight in any light plane, and it too was a Luscombe Silvaire out of a little grass strip near Vancouver. A great plane and good-looking too.
Old is new again, better than ever! Go for it Juan, purchase stock and a shiny new one!
When Pete is 18, Gavin will be president of Luscombe.
Maybe Pete can get an intership?
Great observation and comment. 👍🏼
The most impressive part about this video is Gavin, top lad and he will go far for sure.
This is one of the coolest videos I’ve seen in a long time. I’m currently a software engineer, having taken up many a long-abandoned open source project and brought it up to current standards. That’s what this feels like for this aircraft. Always a great feeling!
Gavin’s parents must be great to have raised such a together young man.
Truly, they did a great job. This young man stayed with us for a month. He's the real deal.
I hope they can make a go of it! What an amazing opportunity for Gavin!
Gavin has PASSION that fuels him to such performance, he'll go far as long as he still has it!
GO Gavin!
Gabby
Put passionate aviators in the same place & you get a great video!! Lovely to hear Gavin so upbeat about the future of the "mighty" Luscombe
Bellanca Viking, and Luscombes two of my
Favorites. Oh,to win the lottery.
Gavin is a natural salesman. His knowledge and enthusiasm is infectious. I own a G5 CIRRUS. SR22. Never thought id consider a 1950’s taildragger as a second aircraft . ( Till now).
I am sure those pilots in Alaska are going to love the new Luscombe
What a young man! I loved the "Mighty Luscombe" story!🤣 great video, Juan! Thank you.
He's young keen and enthusiastic. More please.🙂
Beautiful plan..... but I still love seeing the MMMMMMighty Luscombe flying with Juan.... and soon Pete.... at the controls.... you have the plane.
Juan, does Gavin remind you of yourself at that age?
Most 18 year old guys are no where near that single minded, knowing where they are going and how to get there! It was enjoyable to see him!
What a wonderfully articulate young man. I hope Pete gets to meet him before too long. And what a gift for this young man to have this time with Capt Brown. Talk about some really nifty things coming together at a given point. Absolutely love it.
Ok...now finished watching...good times, Juan. Very good times. (And yeah, I think you need to get a new one....)
Amazing fellow for 18 years old. He’s a smart dude and I’lm certain we’ll be hearing his name mentioned many times in the future in the aviation environment. Not many 18 year olds have a brain.
Love the Luscombe . Great plane. My first plane was a 108-1 Stinson and I got it at 22 years old. And since I had no instructions I sort of figured it out on my own so I have great respect for this fellow.
if you could fly any of the early taildraggers, you could pretty much fly anything. They weren’t easy but they were honest airplanes. Kinda separated the wannabees from the real pilots in the early days. Very cool seeing young aviators willing to put in the effort to get the job done. Rare these days.
Impressive Gavin Swanson....a great representative for Luscombe.
A number of years ago I visited the factory when it was located in Missouri... I was impressed with the amount of tooling required to fabricate an aluminum aircraft.
The Mighty Luscombe is A Beautiful Airplane!
Great Video! I learned to fly and used to work at Rio Linda Airport. The legendary Bill Mauser gave me my FAA checkride!
Yea! Scott worked with Bill for years!
