    I still rock the 909 after all those years. Had a few since (the great M1 and the Epic) but always switched back after some time. Finds the fairway and feels just amazing.
    I play off 4, don‘t be ashamed to keep your old trusty. It‘s worth it.

    The best Titleist I have had was the 905R 9.5 degrees, but I also really liked and kept while playing the 905R was the 983K 10.5 degrees. Just awesome drivers.

    I’ve had a *lot* of Titleist drivers, including a 909. It was released in 2009 (hence the 09 in the number). It then went 910 in 2011, 913 in 2013, 915 in 2015 , 917 and 2017. My favourite of all my drivers was the 905T. It was awesome.

    The 909 designation tells the year - 2009. It would be interesting to put the same shaft in both heads and see how the compare. With the 909 not having the removable tip connector that could get expensive.

  • @boydgrandy5769
    @boydgrandy5769 2 года назад +1

    For the 909, it looks like the ball is teed up to high for the club. The strike pattern seems to confirm that observation, based on the swing you deliver to the ball.
    Try lowering the tee height on the 909, without altering your swing patterns, and see if that doesn't improve the 909's performance in relation to the TSI3.
    Not just materials, but also the mass distribution differences in the two heads clearly affects the output, again based on your swing patterns.

    Mark is correct when saying that the spin was changing because of the strike and not the shaft, but I tend to believe that a shaft can influence where someone strikes the ball on the face. I know that this goes against Mark's beliefs, but shaft deflection is a real thing.

    Last year I did a driver fitting and it came down to the Tsi3 and the Sim 2. I went with the Sim because it was giving me some more distance and lower spin (an issue with my swing at the time). However, the dispersion and feel for the Tsi3 was better at the time, but on the advice of the fitter I went Sim 2. Basically, 15 months later I went back and did another fitting and ended up with Tsi3. For me, not only did the dispersion and feel still win out, but the distance and spin numbers now outperformed the several drivers I tested. Great video as always!

    The difference in Dynamic loft is shocking - except this is something I already know - and that is, 'older' shafts simply weren't as torque stiff and they would shut down / close the face at impact / make impact more variable. If you put that modern shaft in that older 909 D3 driver, it would be an awesome test - please do it!

    • @reallytalltom1712
      @reallytalltom1712 2 года назад +1

      Not with mark's swing.. Shafts make no difference to Mark's delivery, he has such a neutral delivery.. He's done so many shaft videos it's untrue. Bottom line, both clubs are good, the tsi is just more adaptable to Marks regular strike and face angle. A 910D3 with a bit of upright lie would be a fairer test.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 2 года назад

      @@reallytalltom1712 if shafts made no difference to Mark's swing, he would have been able to deliver similar dynamic loft - it wasn't even close - it was insanely different. Because the presented loft was so different, it wasn't even a useful comparison other than to highlight, someone as neutral as Mark, wasn't able to do what he usually can do because the shaft was wacked

    • @eballey77
      @eballey77 2 года назад

      @@wallstreetoneil He can deliver similar dynamic loft and has done so in many different videos. That wasn't the point of this video it was how much can he get out of both of these drivers and is there much of a difference over the last 15 years

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 2 года назад

      @@eballey77 look at time-index 6:48 (20.5 Dynamic Loft for the TSi3 vs 14.6 fr the 909 D3) - that's 2-clubs difference in presented-loft while hitting. If you think that is testing the difference in Heads, then I don't know what to say - it's not - it is for sure showing the difference between the clubs - which in this case, as I've pointed out, is exposing the wild difference in the shaft dynamics coming into impact. Mark, who is a walking robotic expert at usually being able to replicate similar conditions in order to test two different clubs, is just unable to do it in this case because of the shaft differences.

    I don't think they will go back to fixed necks but only because I think that going that way was a manufacturing price decision coated in Golf talk mumbo jumbo to start with. They can kinda adjust for the extra weight of the adjustable hozle in the design of the rest of the club so making one club for all biases is just a win win for them. The colors and designs are on a rotating schedule just trying to get your money into a new version but only having to manufacture one club is going to win their manufacturing cost-benefit analysis every time.

    On the 909 maybe a lower tee would help as it has a deeper face. Also comparing old clubs that have had their shafts whipping and flexing for 10+ years is going to be a factor. The carbon has to deteriorate
    over to time. Put a new shaft in the head and you might be surprised ?

      carbon doesnt really detiorate. It goes from full performance to broken very quickly (in other words, it stays "good" until its not). We learnt a lot about carbon fatigue in the bike industry (where Im from) as a carbon bikes ability and predictability is much more important if youre sitting on it that swinging it. Carbon has an extremely good memory (it behaves the same over and over) compared to steel.

    Golf always comes down to strike doesnt it....my thoughts are maybe a little strange but I feel there is alot of willy waving in golf and this is alot of the problem and also what you want from the game..i have friends who swap equipment every 2 minutes because they want the best because they believe it will transform there game or want to be seen as having the best clubs. I on the other hand have played golf on and off since I was 8 im now in my 40s but my drive was and still is to be the best ball striker so while I'm on the range zipping my 30yr old bladed tp19s down the middle and hitting 1 irons really very well the other 95 percent are smashing £400 drivers into the trees trying to gain an extra 2 yards 🤔!! My equipment often gets frowned upon!! My point!! Is the latest stuff better YES im sure it is by much??? Maybe not but its only going to make a sizeable difference to a good ball striker....because until you can master hitting it consistently out of the middle more often than not then the latest driver may well not be any better than a ten year old club....but lets buy it anyway 🤔 ive never understood this philosophy???

    Can you do a comparison between an older adjustable driver, something like an R11, and a modern fixed package set type driver?

    A black finish is terrible for wear on all full swing clubs shows every scratch compared to chrome or stainless which hides the raw metal since they are just metal.

    I wonder how the old tech works for irregular and inconsistent strikers (most golfers I know). Does the new offer more forgiveness?

    This driver was a dog! Immediately went back to the 905R which can still hang with the current lot out of the middle. Less so off centre hits. The 910d3 still works. TSR3 is the first noticeable upgrade on the 910.

    Wasn't the 909 released in 2009? For a while that was their naming scheme. Like 913, 915 and 917

    I assume the xxio 2022 compare against the xxio 2009 will be forthcoming soon. Or the Cleveland 2022 to 2009?

    Looks like the only difference really is the forgiveness. Hit tsi much more pure from a bigger sweet spot

      The sweet spots are the same 👍 the MOI will be so small a difference a human won’t find it in 30 shots. 👍

    How many have bought the 7 generations of Titleist Drivers , for a total of more than $3,000, for at best 7-12 yards? The way they are advertised and normally reviewed, it should be 70 - 120 yards!

    Forgive my ignorance, but I'm new to the channel just getting back to golf after being away for a few years. What are the white dots/stickers on the face of the clubs????

    Why not try the extra long shaft like you did a couple of years ago? Maybe you can reach 320 then?
