This is exactly what I have been looking for long distance hiking/cycling. 33EUR (VAT included) is just amazing.
1. As lightweight as possible
2. Pliers
3. Scissors
4. Knife
5. Corkscrew! - much more useful to me than serrated blade, file etc.
6. Bit holder was not a must, could be usefeul though - especially with bicycle hex bits
7. Strap cutter - I have it on my heavy Leatherman OHT - so useful!

You should replace the corkscrew with an all purpose hook from Victorinox. That way you still have a way of undoing tough knots. Or a finger nail file would work too.

For me it would be great if SOG would just up their quality a bit (better steel, tolerances) otherwise for the money it's a fantastic multitool. Would make a great modding platform ..... maybe some SAK elements? Scissors, file, different blade ..... the pliers head just plain works, you can also use it to hold jigsaw blades (a bit of tape or heat shrink over the end of the blade and the bit driver will grip), you can also slip a blade beside the pliers a handle to get a good grip.
My solution to the "obsolete" corkscrew is to heat it up, straighten it and turn it into a traveller hook/bent pick ..... even more useful as a pick, scribe, hook, latch opener.
Haven't worked out what to do with the other part of the corkscrew the "cam", maybe cut a v notch and use as a nail puller?
Absolutely asounds me why SOG would not have included the handle lock into the PowerPint

Great little tool & convenient to carry. With ours we cut a little bit off the corkscrew to insert a SAK tinder & ferro rod. Slightly sharpen the end of the corkscrew so we can still use it to untie knots. We've seen one with an alluminium tube that holds a ferro rod or pen. Nifty little tool for outdoors activities. Cheers mate.

All of these multitools can benefit from careful lubing of joints/pivots, and careful adjustment of the pivot screws, once lubed and "broken-in". The 8mmx3mm magnet trick is worth pursuing once the tool is properly lubed and broken in in order to help keep it closed with one's pants pocket. I'm looking for suitable horizontal belt-carry pouches for these items.

Great video, Dom. I've used an 8x3mm Harbor Freight round or 12x5x3mm Amazon magnet on my PowerPint to keep it closed/replace the PowerLiter latch. My PowerPint file is quite aggressive and good. The scissors suck. I could replace the scissors on the PowerLiter with the file. I've usually got scissors elsewhere. I usually don't have that type of file readily available. You'd be trading the serrated blade on the Power Pint for the corkscrew and latching mechanism on the PowerLiter.

Otherwise I could not love my powerpint more

Just got mine from Ali a couple days ago. My only complaints.. a couple finish scuffs, kinda like it's been in a pocket already.. a couple sharp spots.. nothing that couldn't easily be ignored or fixed for a difference of 25 dollars.. also it's a wait.. but that's to be expected.. From a design standpoint.. I wish they would have made the handles a bit thicker. With those thin pliers, you should be able to fit more/ bigger tools when modding.. you're really quite limited because of how the handles are assembled. Also, double sided bits aren't really an option without and ext. Still though, great little edc tool for the price.. Best bang for buck in it's range I'd say.

• @repasiv

It is even cheaper now. To be frank, I really like that it got a cork screw. Just having the option to open a wine whenever is great. The only downsides of this tool are the built quality. I needed to loosen the screws to be able to open all the tools, and the outside part is not perfectly lined up when closed. I just don't understand why they missed out on flat-head screwdrivers on the bottle and can opener. There is really no reason not to have a screwdriver on top. But as it is a viable bit driver and you got a small flat head, it is not that big of an issue.

I think what i was most disappointed with is the general quality, the spring of the lock paddle is not good, the plier jaws are poorly cast and are not aesthetically pleasing, the frame is flimsy where it relies on the pivot pins for its structure. I must say I prefer a gerber crucial for this size tool although it is wider. I like the fact of the ease of plier deployment on the sog but i think if i modded the gerber crucial to have an awl or scissors where the flat profile drivers are or a bit driver or awl in the clip slot then it would out weigh the plier deployment benefit of the sog by far.

You have to almost 'carefully' pluck them out. And that to me is a poor craftsmanship. I actually removed a few of those tools out though (with help from your tutorials :P ) and it's a much more palatable knife. But I still stand by the fact that both SOGs have poor side tools - but excellent pliers and an ingenious bit driver system. Would love it if they could have side tools as good as Victorinox.

We got SOG multitool with gear mechanism from company as "EDC" for work. They all broke within a year at the gear mechanism. It's a weak point. For the same tasks I was using my own Wave (bought 2014) and it's still working with no problem so far. I don't want to compare Leatherman vs SOG, just saying the gear mechanism looks good, but it's also weak point.

Dudes, I got it!
almost...
You know the 8 shaped part of a bicycle chain?
Those flat connections on the outside that keep the chainoarts together?
Well, it seems to be just the right shape and size to connect one to the opposite screw on the power pint!
I'm going to replace the lanyard attachment with a modified piece of that 8 shaped plate and try to hook it underneath the pocket clip!
Huge that will work!
What do you think about that?
Cheers from Germany!

Doubt anybody will see this, but how hard do you think it would be to remove the knife blade and put a washer in instead? Wasn't sure if the locking mechanism would complicate things. My workplace has a strict no knife policy, but other than the knife, this has the perfect set of tools in a compact form

• @richard21-e
@richard21-e Год назад +1

I removed the knife because i did not trust it, it was flimsy, i could see it snapping if i tried to use it. I bought brass washers online to fill the gap and moved some of the tools about at the same time. You could fit something in its place such as a file or a larger flat driver. I also removed the corkscrew and fitted a number 2 phillips driver which comes out perpendicular like a t bar driver.

Mine's about to show up any day now. Definitely changing that corkscrew. That just look like it's begging to snag on anything and everything.
Update: It's actually much smaller than it looks. The corkscrew hasn't really caught on anything.. still gonnat replace it and the leverage bit with other tools but. Yeah 👍 Also also.. got mine off Ali and it was perfect. Couple scuffs and it looked like it wasn't as finished as a normal tool. IE sharp edges on certain parts.. but for a difference of 20 bucks? I already own sand paper.. so. The rumors about the ali ones is they were units that were rejected by QC.. maybe I just got lucky.. but everything lined up, was tight but not too tight, tools were sharp and correct.

Every multi tool (and knife fwiw) from SOG has been a disappointment. I've returned each one that I've purchased.
This one is looking like a strong pass as well. The Swiss tech/Ozark Trail one continues to impress me, and it is the one that gets used when I don't want to take my Leatherman Rebar (the woods for example). I don't want to lose my Leatherman or my Benchmade knives, so that's when the Ganzo firebird or the SRM $20 specials come out. Can't say enough good about the Ozark Trail multi force!
