Like another commenter said - You have a lot of black white and gold, I would add another color, . They suggested burgundy. I would suggest emerald green. You already have a bit of green with the potted tree and the magnolia wall hanging. Over by the TV consider a small round table and chairs for dining playing games or just extra seating .For the chairs I'd do emerald green parsons chairs (they will likely have a dark leg ) so match the table to them, over in the corner where the blanket basket is , put another green parsons chair for looking out the window - it could be moved over to the round table when needed . add a green pillow to the sofa maybe another small green plant where you have space, the blanket basket could go behind the sofa or just lose it and store blankets elsewhere..... or if you do buy a small ottoman or poof for the corner get one with hidden storage and put them in there. I hope this helps

I would pivot the sofa 90 degrees, add gold velvet curtains, real plants, put the chair to the left of the tv console, but to the right of the bump out. Smaller console, dark teak color. Good luck.

I think your place is coming along beautifully. The vibe has a very dark moody/ dark academia. However, I feel like the pillows on the couch are kind of mid century/pop art; they just don’t elevate the room. I would also concur with previous comments to reduce the amount of dried flowers, maybe some more greenery even a good quality fake plant. I also agree with the previous comment about trying the couch against the wall. I know you like it floating, but I just wonder if it would make it more rounded out and then you could fit your chair in the corner… Just a thought. Also agree that some curtains would definitely give you that cozy vibe that you love. I would look for some thing that has an old world feel but not too heavy . Oh , have you seen the three word method of finding your style? I would figure out what your three words are and anything that doesn’t fit with that style I would remove… For example, the pompous grass feels more neutral/ boho. It doesn’t really fit your aesthetic in my opinion. I also think you need to try not to overthink things… Get out there and some thrift stores and find some thing that really speaks to you that you fall in love with… You need something with a history something vintage. Perhaps a vintage dresser for your television… Glad to see you’re busy working . you look fabulous!

Yes! I have been thinking for a while that for me, it’s a lot of black/white and a sea of yellow and gold. I think you could leave your furniture but I think you need another color. If it were me, I’d add wine/burgundy/plum. Maybe a burgundy throw blanket and replace a couple pillows with ones that include plum. I personally find that much black and white and the large gold couch to be overwhelming and I think one more color might anchor it more.

I think darker wood would be a nice change from the lighter wood. I'm a bit more on the minimalist side when it comes to decor, so I wouldn't suggest adding anything more, but I would suggest maybe moving the mirror over to the blank space. Regarding wood tones, I think a nice dark cherry wood may look nice. I do really like light wood, but in this space, I think a deep, rich brown would be best.

Its already a goregous space tbh. I think adding another color for more dimension like a wine, plum, burgandy in your pillows, throw blankets, and plum flowers and pictures would help. When it is a little too matchy when it comes to colors can sometimes make places feel like a furniture store for example and you want to make it feel like its yours. I love the wallpaper and mustard couch contrast for example. I think there's abit too much black and white so thats why the plum\wine tones will help balance that out. Also please dont ever get rid of that one piece pillow. I love One Piece so much! Also Differrent ranges of wood tones will also bring more diverse dimension into the space. I think a darker wood would suffice for the dark mood you are going for. No more black furniture in my opinion. You already have so much black. A dark wood would give it the best complimentry contrast.

Move the mirror to the space with that dark hanging. I don't know that the tree (?fake) is doing anything for the space. Leave some blank spaces for your eye to rest. Curate the clusters of items, it reads a little busy/cluttered.

    Ok, here's my thoughts:
    1. It's quite possible that your couch is too big (not much you can do about that but a smaller couch would've given your living room more breathing room).
    2. With your angled wall and the very orthogonal layout, i think a round rug will soften everything.
    3. Lastly, CURTAINS CURTAINS CURTAINS.

I always advocate for floating furniture off the wall as much as possible, but honestly I think you might need to push your couch back closer to the wall? Then the arm chair would be able to fit in that corner, and the layout might accommodate a rug better too…

So many opinions 😂 here’s one more. I love your decor and it’s very uniquely yours. You had a large rug there before, the pattern was just a bit busy. Does the one you have now come slightly larger? The view out of the window is stunning but wooden Venetian blinds would soften the transition from modern urbanity to dark moody interior. Just a thought. The one thing I absolutely loved in your studio was your desk area with the black patterns on the wall. I am still looking for something similar but I am not sure it exists in the UK. ❤️

I suggest 2-3 (preferably 3 per side), soft-white linen window panels on each side of the large wall of windows. Their solid white color, and there overall size (on each side of the wall), will help tone down, balance, some of the business in the room, but will more importantly give your eyes a calm resting spot. Plus, the soft white linen panels will help pull out more white moments elsewhere in the room, even help provide balance to the large blank wall space far right of the TV.

maybe things feel off bc of the big empty entryway hallway thing, everything is so lovely + curated then there's the big blank entryway space. there's so much potential in that space! some hanging/ trailing plants on that gorgeous huge window space would add some life + new colors into the space too. you have so much incredible light coming through, it would be a shame to not take advantage of that with some plants :) congrats on the costco presentation, i hope it went well!

Hi Steffi, wonderful post. And hello all the way from Australia 😊 You’re so on point about so many things (e.g. when you uplevel one area of your home/life you naturally start to see the bits that next need to be uplevelled to match it). With respect to the area you’re trying to uplevel, my thoughts are to keep that whole flank of the room light in colour from furniture to decorations to contrast/harmoniously highlight the opposite side with the wonderful wallpaper, couch, dramatic rich colours, detail and ornamental feeling etc (which are all so gorgeous). So simply painting the light wood doors of the media console a soft off-white or grey that tones in with the white-grey in the flowers of the wallpaper (avoid stark cold white - it will seem “unfinished”) + paint the mirror surround the same soft off-white/soft grey. Something just a bit deeper in tone then your wall colour so it breaks up the wall rather than disappearing into it whilst still providing a “contrast” to the other side of the room (a black console would make the room too “heavy” and itsy-bitsy.) I can’t see where your desk is located - perhaps paint it the same off-white/grey of the media console or paint it/replace it with a black one if it is NOT on that same flank of wall. You have a natural talent for combining colours, textures, tones, ornamental detail etc. If you’re interested in how to “consciously” choose the exact right white tone, highly recommend Maria Killam who shows how whites have one of 8 undertones. It provides a great structure to quickly problem solve around colours and will show you why you’re so spot-on with your intuitive choices. Replace the magnolia wall hanging with a piece that is NOT floral or nature inspired since that is the highlight of the main wall. (You’re right, the hanging is competing with the wallpaper.) Perhaps something modern & abstract but still soft, feminine and gestural in quality. (Contrast provides vibrancy and is more than just contrasting colours - contrast can be provided by mixing styles and ages, e.g. modern & vintage.) Perhaps something with soft whites + soft golds to indirectly reference the couch. Replace the blanket basket with a large comfortable pouffe to sit on with storage inside for the blankets so you get the best of both worlds (wonderful idea to have a window-gazing seat!) Put lockable clear transparent wheels underneath the pouffe so you can easily move it into position for the window gazing and then move it back to keep it out of the way for the rest of the time. Keep the pouffe light coloured, e.g. a soft off-white colour that tones in with the other white tones of the wallpaper, skirting boards etc). RE: the blank wall, if you love artwork, perhaps a floor to ceiling gallery wall since anything 3d will interrupt the flow and the spaciousness there. BUT: keep it loose and flowing - no identical sized frames all in a row or a grid… instead very large/narrow frames justaposed with medium and small frames (perfect for those greeting cards that are at the level of art!), even mixed up with other shapes, e.g. circle and oval frames. And keeping all the frames white or a soft burnished silver + the artwork soft and drama free so it is a foil to the opposite side of the room, not competing with it. (Soft silver would work well with your bronzes and amber golds - mixing metals is fine!) Look forward to seeing how you evolve the living room even further - it is already beautiful 😊

The back wall is beautiful but too heavy and isn’t balancing. Honestly paint the front wall black too and the light wood is going to be a beautiful contrast and will tie in. If you still don’t like it you can paint it back. It’s just paint at the end of the day. Much love.

Personally I would move the console on the wallpaper to the left and put an armchair and small side table where the olive tree is. Perfect morning coffee corner! Also Black velvet curtains not to be closed but to elevate and match the black wallpaper. So you don't even need them to truly cover the entire window. Money saved cuz it's quite large and would probably require 4 panels... but as decor you only need 2!

I'm not sure I'd move away from the lighter wood in your console and desk. They have a lovely grain pattern that creates interest and movement. Painting it black (respects to the Rolling Stones) would hide that. If you wanted to go darker, maybe a cherry or whatever color the frame of your standing mirror is. But honestly, I like the contrast of the light wood with your darker decor items.
One thing I noticed that is different between your current decor and the clip of your studio apartment you showed is that you utilized more light-reflecting surfaces in your studio, specifically in your textiles. Your current place leans into matte finishes and I wonder if you might feel more balanced by bringing in something shinier, like maybe a satin throw blanket? You could put Helo's chair in the niche beside the TV and move the standing mirror to the adjacent wall. With a satiny throw or that sequined pillow you had on the chair, it could catch the light.
I don't dislike the magnolia art on that wall - I think it reflects the wallpaper rather that competes with it. But if you did want to put your triforce there, maybe install a thin temporary shelf and place the bottom two triforce triangles on it to get them leveled first? You can create a 3-D template with painter's tape around the outside edge and back of the upper portion of one triangle, marking where the nail hole should go. Then all it takes is quickly penciling around the outside of each triangle and lining up that template with your pencil line and marking where each nail goes.
I do like the idea of layering the rugs in the living room that another user suggested. It creates a very bohemian feel. And another user suggested curtains - I'd go with something sheer just to frame out the window and provide some texture. Best of luck - can't wait to see what you come up with!

You've got dark academia style behind the sofa and quasi bohemian style in front (and I never understood the music posters mixing with the dark academia/gothic style you've got). Choose one. The floral wall hang should go on that blank wall by the TV; it doesn't compete with the wallpaper, but compliments it. Paint the front of the doors of the TV stand black. Move everything out of that corner between the TV stand & the corner, move the chair there, put a table in the corner next to the window to compliment the chair. It will absolutely fit this way.

I would say, and maybe this will be slightly hard to hear(or read), but as a fan and viewer from your old studio apartment days, I think what's "missing" is personality, your personality, and a layered depth of self expression. Your old studio had variety; there were different areas that were decorated with different things that expressed different aspects of YOU...... There were the music things, there was the Zelda refferences, there was the wall treatment in your office space.....every area had its own statements, but everything came together in a cool multilayered way.....skipping over your cohabitation efforts because it might still be painful for you, this apartment, yes, I've watched all the videos, is SORELY lacking your personality.....its very overbearingly monotonous and repetitive with big, bold, graphic black and white florals everywhere, and now even the big floral wall murals. Please don't take this as being overly harsh or critical. It just shows you have evolved and you haven't realized what you've evolved into yet; it shows you lost yourself, and your confidence. Your space and your channel even has always been a domination of your evolution. Hang in there, you'll get it there.

    oo so exciting...
many people mentioned curtains, and that would have been one of my first additions if it was my room, layering some sheer ones with some that are heavier, making sure they pile up on the ground and extend high to the ceiling. i love to control the light that comes into the room. 🪟id loooovveeee a window seat, and keep trying to think up how i can do it. so i really hope you do that, it would be so satisfying. ☺does your couch happen to flip around so the longer side can go by the window? thatd be convenient.
