@transylvanian There are plenty of sociopaths who aren't becoming billionaires. The extreme mercantile/capitalist system in the USA obviously enables someone of that but then there are many fewer Scandinavian billionaires even with how much more millionaires arise there.
Last thing I expected when clicking on a channel called "How to Cook That" was an education into the possible dangers of content farming companies. Thank you for giving me this information.
Yes, I just adore people who can call peoples bs so elegantly. I remember watching this girl who makes dresses and after buying a rip off of her dress proceeded to tear into them with so much grace you'd think she was born centuries ago.
My daughter before she started actually cooking would make brownie in a mug often. They always turned out great. But my daughter likes physics and science so she knew to add baking powder. We watch ant man when It first came out and couldn't get through it without my daughter giving everyone a physics lesson. She just wanted to make sure we knew that this is impossible and this is why.
You daughter sounds adorable and very smart. Good on you for encouraging her passions! Seeing more and more parents like you gives me a lot of hope for the children.
Yea i visited one site it said "But the viral hacks aren’t just harmless wastes of time - as both Fox and Reardon warn, some of the suggestions offered in videos from the likes of 5-Minute Crafts and So Yummy are actually dangerous, and could result in real harm if someone attempted to, say, consume bleached strawberries (yes, really) or pour molten caramel on a spinning whisk. In 2019, a woman was sent to the hospital after she allegedly tried a recipe that instructed her to microwave eggs, which exploded in her face."

Hello! I just wanted to say thank you for helping out people by telling them the truth! I actually used to watch five min crafts, and I’m really glad I was too lazy to try the hacks. After I watched these debunking videos I unsubscribed from 5 min crafts, oh and Dave, thanks for being a good sport! And Ann your such a good cook and baker!
5 minute crafts be like: "Step one: Mix one cup of flour and one cup of milk and pour it into a glass Step two: Put it in the microwave oven for 60 seconds Step three: Take it out of the microwave oven and flip the glass upside down onto a plate Step four: Now you are done and should have a giant strawberry flavoured wedding cake completely decorated with fondant roses and gold leaf, using only 2 ingredients! AMAZING!"
I’m a historian in training and content farms are absolutely something we need to worry about. A lot of the “disinformation” shared on FB and other platforms wasn’t necessarily outright lies, but reinterpretations and slight revisions of history and current events deliberately designed to anger people. Don’t get your history from memes people, and thanks for another great video Ann!
It's really insidious stuff. And they do it on everything. People are getting terrible medical advice on channels like BrightSide. And with all the fake information going around about Coronavirus right now that can convince people to act incredibly stupidly (e.g. because they are convinced it is fake, or that summer is going to make it go away, or whatever other nonsense). It's really dangerous stuff that is even impacting people's health directly, not to even get into the political propaganda. False information is probably grounds to remove videos from RUclips under the EULA, but they only ever even have a human look at a video if tons of people flag it at once. Google's investment in moderation is frankly pathetic. Not only have they failed to deal with the shams, the shams even often take down videos like this one (e.g. TheSoul Media can just tell are their employees to flag this video one day). Far right white nationalist groups have also used these mechanisms to attack videos that set the record straight on things like WWII (e.g. Three Arrows has had them attack his historically accurate videos several times because he was correcting their racist lies). There are anti-semitic videos here on RUclips that I've reported more than three times but that had no action taken against them because I'm just person and it was a long video that slowly built the insidious narrative so it wasn't like I could give RUclips a time stamp where it would be obvious to a reviewer spending two seconds on it.
It's interesting that the same disinformation we see in these videos was used by the Victorians in the service of creating what they thought was a "progressive" society (but was in truth distorted, patriarchal, and imperialist). It goes well beyond history; how many people today still believe that a pride of lions is a harem controlled by the lion, and not a family of lionesses with a sugar baby/sperm donor in tow?
I get most of my history from memes and anime. Or more accuratly that's the starting point and then I read up historical texts on the subjects. One of the reasons why I always try to keep libraries open.
I’m blocking all the channels from this content farmer, I was avoiding them when I noticed the pattern of subtle false information. But now I really don’t want to give them any views if I forget temporarily and get caught up in the video’s good bits, and all the other content farmers, I’ve occasionally noticed a negative pattern and blocked them. Definitely, need to be more careful what content I watch when bored and relaxed, or tired. For example, didn’t like Logan Paul videos so I just used to ignore them on my feed, then after the suicide corpse scandal I was curious, then blocked after been shown all the clips that showed what he and his family were doing, that showed they cared too much about clout, and most of all money. I only subscribe to the real, true content creators with a good conscience, that cares about their viewers, channels like Anne Reardon’s.
She's actually smart, she doesn't only debunks videos, also she takes the time to attack the sistem that makes those videos viral in the first place, and even uses their own algorithm to attack the system.
He was SO happy before he went to pick one up! Poor Dave! Good bloke, good partner! We should really stop encouraging Ann to slightly poison the poor dude...... 🤣

Even with proper cooking videos, you will rewatch if you fail. I once tried to make molasses cookies and they failed. After rewatching the video, I tried again. Then I cut the molasses amount on my own. It did not work. I ended up calling a Baker who told me, my molasses itself was the issue. I watched that video about 11 times. I get what you mean and I hate those fake videos.
Why 5-minute craps isn't banned yet? It's a Russian channel. It's part of the conglomerate behind hundreds of absolute garbage channels. Also, if you look at the comments under their videos. It's just a bunch of bots spamming absolute garbage. Like this, for example: "Hey, you ! I want you to get up and take a little step 🚶🏽. I know I may feel impossible, I need you to work hard, trust the process, and have faith" "I really just love it when I get a notification saying "Someone has liked your comment!" or "Someone subscribed!" Terribly sad. In a country whose authentic cuisine would become much better and more useful content, they are forced to film this shit...
@@grizzlybear4 I would be surprised they would be able to since Cyprus is a Russian tax haven, so the government there would be likely to see it in its interest to suppress unionization and worker rights. I like how they’re like the debunking mom and dad of the Internet
The subtle lie is the most insidious. Looks like the truth, smells like the truth, but poisons you when you swallow it.

Step 1: Smash the plate, embed the shards into the cucumber, and stuff the cucumber into the shoe.
Step 2: Ta-dah! You made yourself a magnificent wedding cake. Don't @ me.
I have to try this!! 😍😍 Sounds amazing
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You forgot to microwave it
TheRhythmicTale, true
You forgot the main step, adding something that wasn't in the ingredients!!
I'm a lecturer and one day I caught my student sharing the footage from 5 min crafts and said how everyone should try it. I was like, OH NO!
Later on, I added the "game of deception" and "visual seduction" segments in the Media and Visual Design class when talking about visual culture and social media (usually these principles were applied in commercial ads so the audience are compelled to buy the product). I then asked my students to watch your debunking video and discuss it lol. Hopefully the hype surrounding these fake How-to can be slowed down, albeit a little.
You are the kind of teacher I'd want and maybe that everyone needs.
You're a good teacher :D
Dude you are an awesome teacher/professor
Thank you for doing some vital educating!
Kudos to you! Perhaps short term there will be a small improvement but skepticism around media/advertisement is a skill that will help tons when they enter adulthood.
Considering the situation with Ukraine, that political ad of Russia taking over Europe is extremely creepy
On the russian government TV channels they constantly talk about how they need to blоw up UK or take over Baltic countries or something similar. So this is no surprise.
