Ball joint press is only needed to put it back on. If you put the jack under the lower control arm and jack it up to pressure and hold the lower arm you have hit that with one half hit and it will come right out and save 10 minutes putting that ball joint press on there.
ball joints aren't on any state inspection checklist that I've ever seen. how bad mustthey have been that they were noticed? and why would you be driving a round like that?
Just ordered a pair of those for my 1999 Ford ranger XLT. I'm pretty much having to change my whole front suspension because some idiot that I bought the truck from pretty much messed it up and I didn't know til after I bought it but after I put on the new lower ball joints (because the have holes in them and don't hold any grease anymore) and switch out my control arm bushings (passenger side control arm had way too much play) and switch out my spindles(3" lifted spindles, one got severely damaged and it was on the passenger side aswell) it Should be a great driving truck lol.
Sounds like quite the job but at least you have peace of mind that it's done right and that maintenance is done for along time. I have plenty more Ranger repair videos if you're seeking addition info too :)
I have three videos on the subject: ruclips.net/video/WN_n4gpCorM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/cZ6tBZ4aqYk/видео.html ruclips.net/video/L48P2jlOQmQ/видео.html
Instead of buying anything you can just use a wrench across the top sleeve instead of the press piece to solve the clearance issues with the ball joint press
That would be the OEMTOOLS 24481 1/2" impact, here is the link www.mobiledistributorsupply.com/24481-heavy-duty-1-2-in-drive-jacob-s-chuck-impact-wrench-oem
I'm going to do this job on a 99 Mazda the control arm kit that I bought doesn't have a new pinch bolt do you happen to know by cross reference what size that bolt is ? Thinking it's a M10 65mm not sure .....
Just did them the other day. If you go to autozone you can get the upper control arm/ upper ball joint 1 piece assembly which makes it so much easier. It only consists of 3 bolts and it's pretty self explanatory once you take the wheel off.
I know this is a 4 year old video but god damn. It feels like my castle nuts are welded on to the lower control arm. Yes I made sure I was twisting the right way. I used a breaking bar with a 12 foot steel pipe as leverage still nothing. I used penetrating fluid before hand waited 30 minutes then did it. I tried heating it up with a torch and still nothing I have no idea I might just cut it off.

Easy to follow and understand, thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Great video. This is exactly what I need. I have the same whip with tortion bar suspension. Gonna do this and the outer tie rods on both sides.
Thank you and glad I could help! Yours must be a 4wd?
This is really good video on how to do a ball joint removal thank you so much
You are very welcome and thank you for the kind words!
Great video. Very timely also. My 2006 Ranger 2WD failed inspection for a lower ball joint yesterday.
Thank you. I'll have an upper control arm and tie rod replacement in the upcoming weeks. Just currently finishing up an exhaust system for this truck.

An inner bearing race fits perfectly.
After installation will the vehicle need an alignment?
En México con un martillo y un desarmador las cambiamos en 45minutos
Gave ya a thumbs up :D keep up the great work
Awesome, thank you so much for the support!
If you need to install a new upper control arm as well as a lower ball joint, does the order in which you install them matter?
It doesn't matter, just make sure to get an alignment done once the upper control arms are replaced.
like the green impact . which one is it? or can you put a link?
That would be the OEMTOOLS 24481 1/2" impact, here is the link www.mobiledistributorsupply.com/24481-heavy-duty-1-2-in-drive-jacob-s-chuck-impact-wrench-oem

I went to home depot and matched it cost me $1.79
I have to assume that you are somewhere in the north east judging by all that rust .
Good
Thank you!
what ball joint press are you using? can add a link?
Not sure where you're located, but here are the links for Canada and USA.

Are these ball joints directional
Nope, but they maybe an option depending on which you order and what type of suspension mods you have done to your truck.
Hey guys how how much harder is this on a 4wd?
Basically the same process. The only difference is the half shaft that you might need to disconnect for the room but you probably don’t.

Why is no one posting how to. Remove upper bail joints

How much does upper and lower ball joints cost for a 99 for ranger two wheal drive
My auto parts store charges 33 a piece for uppers and 26 a piece for lowers
what a rusty truck... clean then paint it.I would sandblast it first.
Already covered in another video, but with a more friendly at home method.
