I am loving the 2024 Skoda Kamiq version at 3400kms, quality Czechia build, great city car $34k drive away. Car of the year recently 22 &23. Recommmend 95 & 98 fuel 7% extra cost and 10k oil changes hopefully lower issues and better performance. Drive and sports settings, changed by pulling D back and releasing, check D & S on dash.
I parked beside one at work about 12 months ago and looked at the wheel hub to see who manufactured it. VW… I walked away from it and haven’t looked back…
VW isn't the best at anything, but it's good at everything, that's why people love it. Here in Croatia, the T-cross is very popular, and not very expensive, 20,000 euros for the basic model. For 24,000 euros you can buy a solidly equipped model with a 1.5 L engine, 150 horsepower, DSG. One rule should be followed with every car, always buy a facelift model, because mostly all the problems it had before the facelift are solved.
I owned the exact same version of the Tcross for over 3 years. Only major issues were the terrible stop-start, jerky DSG, Interior and exterior plastics that scuff and scratch easily and the folding rear mirrors - yes, they sounded like a grinder when opening and closing. It was a 7/10 car for me 😊
We bought a 2020 T-Cross 1.0T DSG Comfortline with R-line exterior brand new in 2020, and sold it in 2022 with 23k kms on the clock. Had no issues, other than the electronic release of the fuel cap malfunctioning once in 2021 which was replaced under warranty. Sold it for the top of the range 1.5T Highline DSG with R-line kit, also 2020 but now preowned with 22k kms on the clock, with all the amenities that comes with the top spec. Currently on 52k kms and has been absolutely flawless. The folding mirrors are a bit “noisy”, but I’d say it just sounds mechanical 🤷♂️. I will say the only thing is poorer noise insulation due to the thinner tires on the R-line spec. I can absolutely say that I doubt it’s a long-term car (plus five years, out of warranty), but it definitely is a huge upgrade from the 2015 1.0 EcoBoost EcoSport we had prior to them.
The most impressive thing about Volkswagen is how despite everything the brand is still confident FYI the T-Cross is build in Accra Ghana or Shanghai China, so no wonder the build quality makes you think Ray Charles put them together using just his feet
Their "build quality" wasn't any better when their cars were made in "awesome" Western countries. VW always had nasty customer service, eye watering prices and very unreliable vehicles.
Talking about depreciation, I bought a mg zst brand new in 2023 Feb for 33990. Just went to sell it few weeks back and it sold for 24k. So the depreciation was horrendous. Demand v supply at its finest.
Thanks for the review guys. I tried out a T-Cross a couple of years ago and was not impressed with the interior (flimsy and cheap), and worse there was the awful road feedback through the steering wheel (i.e. none at all). When I asked the salesperson about this he said "this is what people want". He also couldn't tell me whether the engine had a chain or timing belt. Ended up buying an XV which is much more solid and much more pleasant inside. Despite many reviews indictating the 2.0 litre non turbo is underpowered hasn't been my experience - never felt it has run out of power in a sticky situation. It is noisy though when you give it some stick as the reviews describe.
You’ll need to watch for the XV burning oil. I had one that did that after 30,000kms and 2 years old. I sold it before anything else went wrong and went back to Toyota. It was a fun to drive though, just not to own mid term
The infotainment system can be fixed with an update. The sound issues (including none at all) requires the amplifier on models with the Beats system to be updated. This could be fixed if Volkswagen enabled WiFi updates. In Europe the MIB3 gets updates OTA via LTE. But we don’t have that service. So we’re reliant on dealers to supply the updates. Unfortunately, many dealers take the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach to updates. When many owners will think these issues are just how they are. Making things worse, some service centre will just lie. I’ve had that happen to me. All I had to do was check the software version.
@@connorpallister6653northern Japan isn’t much different to Europe so not sure that’s an excuse for VW quality issues. The real problem is the bean counters cost cutting overriding what the engineers want … resulting in what we see now. DW (something like that, German channel) did a whole mini doco on the drop in quality across almost all German brands…. and this was from a German point of view so they acknowledge it’s a quality issue … so it’s not just here in Oz
Just adding my 2 cents here. And in full disclosure I have the newer (base) version, and only for a few months now, but I am globally very satisfied with the car. Yes to a few annoyances with apple car play needing to be rebooted and the transmission a bit slow to start but otherwise very happy and I have driven a couple of cars from the same category from rental and for example I would run away from a susuki vitara. The T cross feels so much more premium and also the level of equipment now from the base model is awesome from rear view camera to assists etc…
South African viewer here… I have the 2020 1.0 95kw dsg r line model. I’ve had almost ALL the issues moaned about. Centre console just freezes, Apple carplay super problematic, parking sensors go bonkers for no reason, super squeaky over bumps, wireless charger wants to make my phone explain from heat, mirrors have gotten stuck. Nothing at all wrong mechanically though, other than the car starting to roll! But I’m 100% over the vw price vs it’s cheap materials, so I’m likely not going back for more (I’ve had 5 Vw’s so far 🙈)
Funny the VW board is looking at Toyota as to why they to manage to make and sell more cars with half the work force and still have higher customer satisfaction. Hopefully they stop doing the boeing thing and stop focusing on shareholders and back to making decent cars
At the end of the day for us it came down to price. Our local VW dealer had a pre-facelift runout sale where the T-cross was cheaper than the CX-3 and vitara turbo. We’re not too worried haha it’s just a car.
What is happening with new car retailers? I keep hearing about poor after sales service and support. I have become a no particular brand owner. I now look at after sales service and support for my next new car purchase. It is why I look to Toyota and Lexus, Mazda Hyundai and Kia. And it appears that MG has got its act together too. I want a car that is supported, I don't want to have to go back to the dealer knowing I will have be be firm or even aggressive to get my vehicle fixed. The 3 pointed star has a terrible reputation too. I am from the group that knows my vehicle will have mechanical problems. I can deal with that if I have support. Sure the scratchie plastics are annoying, but if they last, that is more important. Thanks Adam and Jim, another great video with real information.
My experience with volkswagen after sales on my Tiguan has been really good. Solitare volkswagen never question any warranty claims and will rectify them straight away always providing a rental car (usually nicer cars like a golf r last time) and even offer to drop the car back off to my house for free.
To answer the title question, no. Especially when there are better built and more reliable options in this segment, or even other segments like the Honda HR-V, the Toyota Corolla Cross, the Corolla wagon, the Honda Civic, a lightly used Mazda 3/6 etc.
I was considering the t-cross almost solely on the fact that it is a small car and has folding front passenger seat and i wouldn't need to faff around with bike racks while doing short mountain biking trips. Maybe i'll look for something else..
Yeah, this is very localized. As in...your experience differs a lot from the european experience. In europe vw has never been a monument of reliability, but it has never been terrible either.
I've got the Polo GTI - Massive issues with audio not continuing after getting off a phone call with android auto, no issue in any other car. Some issues with the dash creeking and doors, issues with the handbrake cables being stretched causing brakes to rub at low speed. So, I fucked the warranty off and built the car with coilovers, golf r turbo etc way better now
After watching this I'll be T-Crossing this off any recommendation lists. The fuel efficiency of one if these is horrendous compared to the likes of the Suzuki Spacia. After seeing everything that goes wrong with them in comparison to what's good about them it makes me wonder why VW hasn't killed this car off already. Great video as always and and as per usual I look forward to Sunday's video 👍.
The interior colour reminds me of a 1987 Nissan Pulsar 🤮🤮 VW has been selling unreliable car's for all of this century, so I have no more sympathy for the badge snobs that continue to reward bad corporate behaviour by consuming that product 😂😂😂

I am glad you guys did a video on this car. My mum was considering one of these, and the Suzuki Vitara Turbo was her 2nd choice. All your dislikes and issues is why i urged my mum so much not to buy this over the Suzuki. It was your early review video of the Vitara that also made her feel more like it was the right choice. I think the point of a small useless cabby in the back is part sharing. If you buy a Skoda Kamik or Scala or, heck, even the new Fabia, you'll get air vents. If you buy this, you'll get a lid.

No thankyou ill stick with my trouble free honest and reliable 2013 VF Commodore. Funny how many were critical of our locally built cars, were they so bad after all?
Nope, they weren’t. My taxi-spec Ford Territory has been trouble free in over 10 years of ownership and craps all over any poxy faux-euro SUV that VAG can dream up.
Used to have VF wagons for work, they were generally excellent cars. Holden had finally reached the point where I was seriously thinking of getting one before they stopped making them. Really sad. I've always been a Japanese car person for the record.
Here in the States, volkswagens sold here are built in mexico or Tennessee: Amazing pieces of crap 😢. Volkswagen is still a young company, give them a hundred years or so to figure out their quality control issues 😢.
It's rather sad appearing that anything European is best avoided owing to less than average build quality and premium price to purchase or service thereafter, and depreciation. No wonder similar class vehicles from Japan, Korea are a much better choice.

I occasionally drive a 2022 VW with the 1.5 TSI engine for work (company car not mine)and the car has been plagued with faults since new. Not a month without an engine check light on or some electrical/ issues. Its on its second clutch master cylinder and it has had the EVAP system and all fuel injectors change. These are the faults i have witnessed with it in the past 6 months, according to few other colleagues it has had major repairs before and the thing has done only 57.000Km and is 2 years old. VAG products are ABSOLUTE rubbish stay away if you value your money.
Volkswagen holds 6% of the world's automotive market which is second only to Toyota. In 2023 they sold over 9 million vehicles worldwide and many of those sales were to repeat buyers who were satisfied enough with their present vehicle to buy one from the same manufacturer again. There is obviously something about them that appeals to buyers and it's not like buyers don't have other choices. I have owned a VWs in the past as well as Japanese and Korean vehicles. I maintain my vehicles and overall the VWs were very robust. Not as reliable as the Toyota or Hondas I owned but better than the Nissans Kias and Hyundais.
Owned 4 new VW products since 2017, and T-Cross was the absolute worst vehicle of the group. Poor interior quality, infotainment connection concerns, poor ergonomics of the front seats, front brake pads/disc wear / replacement within 24,000 km, and a 2 day visit to the local VW w/shop to replace parts in the DSG gearbox. New model is overpriced, and the maintenance 5 year plan has increased by 55%. Just sold and replaced it with a Japanese SUV with far less ownership concerns reported, and a maintenance plan that is far more cheaper, for a far premium vehicle. VW, you have lost the plot, and a loyal customer.

VW…
I walked away from it and haven’t looked back…
VW isn't the best at anything, but it's good at everything, that's why people love it.
I would say it is expensive for living standard!People are obsessed with this brand still go figure!
VW were on such a roll over a decade ago, with the mk7 golf, mk5 polo. What has happened to them in the last few years, so disappointing.
The accountant is in charge clawing back losses over dieselgate
This may be the most brutal review you guys have done.
The tcross we get in my country is built in spain
Yes, especially considering Ray Charles has been dead for quite a while now
I’m in Australia and my car was built in Spain.. they still come from there with the New Updated model.
Just don’t buy a Volkswagen full stop…
I really don‘t know what‘s happening in Australia but in the rest of the world VW cars are usually known to be reliable🤣
@@bu7833 probs our climate. A lot of Euro cars aren’t fit for our temperatures. My dads Mk7 Fiesta ST has some serious problems on the really hot days
@@bu7833Europeans only buy manual and they provide 8AT in North America but selling trash like dual clutch in Australia
@@brainsmatter7067 never heard of a Japanese car have a problem, have you?
Another soulless car but a lot of Australians will happily pay 40k for this crap anyways
At the end of the day for us it came down to price. Our local VW dealer had a pre-facelift runout sale where the T-cross was cheaper than the CX-3 and vitara turbo. We’re not too worried haha it’s just a car.
Most things are fantastic with VW until something goes wrong 😑. VW service is terrible, even when nothing is wrong…… I can absolutely confirm that
What is happening with new car retailers?
How long before VW goes under or needs a bailout?
So, I fucked the warranty off and built the car with coilovers, golf r turbo etc way better now
I have an A3 with that engine and gearbox and I am dreading the maintenance plan coming to an end in April.
@@semicolon101 better sell it now.
@@TwistedDonners I’m averaging 6.5 per 100 so that’s not bad around town. On motorway drives I usually get 5.5 and has been down to 4.6 on a run from Sydney to Canberra( about 460 kilometre run.Small Tu rbos do use a bit more in city runs but I can put up with that as the longer runs make up for it.Am getting around 650 klm per tank of 40 litres.
Why oh why are people still buying these things?
i can confirm the parking sensor issue and the infotainment system switching off.
I test drove a lot of cars in this segment recently. On the same day I test drove a Mazda cx30 and then right after a T cross and I actually laughed out loud when I sat in the t cross.
Hate cross overs. Yeah, not touching that lol.
That was brutal 😂
Or it was just a spade being a spade
I am glad you guys did a video on this car. My mum was considering one of these, and the Suzuki Vitara Turbo was her 2nd choice. All your dislikes and issues is why i urged my mum so much not to buy this over the Suzuki. It was your early review video of the Vitara that also made her feel more like it was the right choice. You made me laugh when you said the T-cross wasnt as enjoyable as the Vitara Turbo, its a pretty good nugget to drive. Thank you for your videos. They help so much when car shopping and save me time doing some research knowing you've done all that to create the video.
I have had a Suzuki Vitara turbo for 3 years. Great car with no issues and the turbo engine is a peach.
@@bondjamesbond9041 yeah they’re a hell of a car. Definitely preferred it when we test drove them both.
At least it's got mystical powers😁. I'm so fed up with these dreary cars, but love your reviews of anything 😊
I think the point of a small useless cabby in the back is part sharing. If you buy a Skoda Kamik or Scala or, heck, even the new Fabia, you'll get air vents. If you buy this, you'll get a lid.
Personification of dull. I love the 1.0T triple tho, albeit I’ve only driven in a manual (Polo and TRoc overseas)
"Judging where the parameters of the car are" 13:23 Adam, it's not parameters of the car it's perimeter. Every video; enough is enough; I had to speak out.

All German cars have better engineered marketing than all other manufacturers. So they must be good. Right.
We didn’t know what we had until it was gone. I find most modern cars fairly awful - very intrusive “safety” tech.
Will keep my 380. Australian cars were good.
Used to have VF wagons for work, they were generally excellent cars. Holden had finally reached the point where I was seriously thinking of getting one before they stopped making them. Really sad.
I've always been a Japanese car person for the record.
@@thomasclayton169 I bought a 2008 VE Calais brand New and didn’t have anything major go wrong.Just electronics a number of times and woeful economy.
The coolest VW (peoples car) was the Karmann Ghia, 53-57 Beetle, split screen Kombi.
I have a T Cross Style with the Sound and Vision Pack .. 2021 model now with 38,000 klms on the clock. None of the dramas that you mention, except wiper blades not lasting long. Actually I’ve even tried the Wipertech ones and they aren’t any better. The only problem has been the Front Brakes warping.TWICE WITH ONLY 14,000 Klms between the same problem.First time VW replace the Rotors Free f charge but NOT the pads. Happened again at 28,00 Klms and VW did Not replace under warranty. They said as I had replaced the Original Not so good looking wheels with Speedy Wheels of the same size, 17 inch.. That’s what caused the problem I questioned that when the First set warped, I still had the Factory wheels on it.I even had the Factory fit Hankook tyres changed over to the new wheels. They wouldn’t budge ,however I insisted that Brake Pads be replaced as well. Total cost was $698! Yikes,
They don’t seem to be that good on Warranty work. Not sure I would buy another VW now. My previous car was a Golf which had No Problems.I have to admit that the T Cross drives well and is Not Noisy like some Reviewers are saying.

Looking forward to seeing an FK8 review on day 😀
Same issues as the Golf 8: sensors, sub-optimal build quality and most of all, 13 in a dozen appearance and market audience. You don't need an SUV.
Be interesting to see a video on 2nd hand Cupras, formentors.
Would be fascinating to see of Cupra built in Spain which is a part of VAG are built well....and of they have similar issues, they are fun to drive
In Asia the T Cross has Airconditioning Vents in that ridiculous Hole in the rear of the centre console. We just get a Hole there to remind us that we Don’t get that Hot in Australia so we don’t need Aircon ducting to the rear.😳
Bought a 2022 as a second car last year to run the dog around and do shop runs. Strangely for a car this size it's really enjoyable on the open road as opposed to around town (cough dsg). Cheap ass interior but I'm enjoying it so far. Only real complaint is the infotainment system compared to my wifes Kona NLine is shithouse!

Do you think you will review the corolla cross anytime soon?
Passenger space in these is more comparable to Mazda CX-5 rather than CX-3, with the latter there isn't even any comparison.

Guys can u plz do a review of Skoda kamiq?? Thanks in advance!
Funny how every other review says its really enjoyable to drive and way better than competitors like the mazda cx3. Maybe thats just the 2024.
Nice wrist watch collection!
My issue isn't about the poor build quality or unreliability, but why do these people keep buying these despite knowing the same thing for decades?
Dieselgate was devastating
I'm a fan of the styling tho
Question: is this related to the North American market Taos, or is that a completely different car?
I lost faith in VWs a long time ago with their antipollution exhaust.

About 5mln Volkswagens were sold in 2023.

HELLO IF YOU WANT TO REVIEW A CROWN MAJESTA I HAVE ONE IN MELBOURNE VIC OKAY
