Impact Marathon is no ordinary race. Runners from across the country get together to give back to the nature that makes our running so beautiful. Partnering with Trees Not Tees and working alongside Future Forests, this race isn’t just about running a marathon, it’s about planting hundreds of trees on the stunning Isle of Mull in Scotland first.
Join Anna as she takes on the challenge to run a super tough trail marathon - with 1200 metres of ascent!

This channel is one of my absolute favourites. I ran the Gothenburg half marathon this weekend and, standing there at the starting line, I was actually thinking about Anna and, more especially, about Rick. Last year I was hospitalized and diagnosed with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, and the doctors told me I would never run again. I proved them wrong. This channel has been such an inspiration and has helped me a lot. Thank you! (Btw, next year I will run my first marathon, believe that!)
I love all of the RC videos but I particularly like this one! It is so good to see Anna doing what she does best - being her brilliant & authentic self! The pure joy Anna felt came through in bucket loads - well done to everyone involved in this video & to RC!
I LOVE this! So inspirational and informative - and love the concept of Trees not Tees. Well done, as always, Anna!
I watched Flora’s video on this a couple of weeks ago and was waiting for Anna’s take on TRC. I am so super proud (super duper proud as a vegan) that you took something away from this race Anna, and I am happy that something like Impact exists for us to experience! Definitely thinking about heading to the next one myself. Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us, it was different and special 💚🌱
Super video: a change from running performance to explore how we might perform to look after the world.
A great way to teach, Before I became a gardener, many years ago, I use to volunteer in conservation and spend weekends away all round Ireland. I did forest management, hedge planting/layering, dry stone walling and wildlife habitats, Well done Anna, Looking forward to seeing if you grow chickpeas 👍👍
That sounds amazing, I should look for programs like that near me!
Wonderful!!! I absolutely love to see those more important themes to show up in the middle of the stuff I like to do and to watch! Grab on to the message people. Keep it up Anna!
Brilliant clip; more than a marathon insider, more than travel vlog... purpose and enjoyment... why we run! I admire and enjoy your approach Anna.
Amazing msg! Good on you Anna. Ty for using your platform to display this message!
Anna - You inspire. (as does the crew on this channel) Thank you
This is fantastic, it would be great if more races did this, thanks Anna for the awesome film
Loved this one! It is making me think what addl changes I can make to help our planet thrive again! Thanks for this!!!
what a wonderful things here. well done Anna and everyone involved in this run. the views are amazing on this little track.
We are all living vicariously through Anna. Awesome race and message. Go Anna!!
That looks amazing, and spreading the word about what we can all do in some small ways to make it better and enjoy ourselves while doing it!
Great video as ever, love Anna and her adventures. Such an important message too. Go Anna x
Great effort and beautiful surroundings! We could and should all put in a little effort, small things go long ways. Thanks for yet another inspiring video
Exactly Paul, small things do go a long way! Really glad you enjoyed the video 😀 Would you run an Impact Marathon?
@@runningchannel never ran a whole marathon. Halves at most, but this seems a good motivation to go the extra distance
Anna , you always inspire! ❤ Kudos to the TRC team for putting this together.
Thanks Natacha!
Great job Anna! And a great message.
Looks lovely 😊 always like to see more trail running content!
This weekend I have to set my alarm (also for 5am) as I am part of a team running the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia, Canada. It is one of the most scenic places in Eastern Canada
I loved the idea of planting a tree instead of a t-shirt at the end of the race!!
That looked amazing. Well done Anna! I love the “no new gear for a year”, a brilliant idea. Don’t know if I could stick to it though 😂
I love a trail run every now and than, some amazing scenes. Loved meeting you at the Running Show South, enjoyed talking to you so much I forgot to ask for a picture 🤦🏻♂️
Amazing views Anna well done.
So much awesomeness, go Anna!
I saw you do this with Flora Beverley on her channel, loved it! (Shameless plug for another great running channel. 😆) Loved the bagpiper! I already buy mostly second hand gear- that started as a budget thing, as I love high quality gear, but often can't afford it. My husband and I already use recycled paper products, and are cutting back on meat, down from 6 days a week to 3. We've found some delicious plant based options, and don't feel deprived at all! There's still plenty more small changes we're looking into, like laundry detergent, that can make a difference and easily be incorporated into our lives without taking them over. Loved this, would love more sprinkled between your videos, if you can withstand the political snarling that will certainly accompany it!
This is one of the best videos TRC has done. Thank you.
I turned vegetarian in 2019 precisely because of emissions and sustainable food supplies and I wring every last ounce of use out of my clothes and footwear whatever it is for. I admit to not giving things enough thought and I have been a member of Friends of the Earth since 2000. Greta Thunberg finally tipped the balance for me. Why do we look but not really see?
Consumerism has driven excess consumption which has driven exploitation of both natural resources and people but also accelerated the rate of climate change that Earth is experiencing.
Make your phone or smartwatch last four, five or even six years instead of every two and don't worry about being fashionable. In particular about fashion: it changes every six months driven by commercial pressures, not by necessity. Buy quality with as good a possible ethical credentials and make it last by looking after it.
Oh, and don't wash outer garments after one wear unless they genuinely need it. With mix and match you can wear clothing in varying combinations multiple times. Hang to air after wearing rather than scrunch in a ball on the floor.
Most of all: get out on foot and enjoy the beautiful world because that is what you are trying to save.
Some of these things aren't sustainable themselves though. Soya milk for example is very intensive in its water requirements. Anna is right, we can't all be vegetarian or vegan. So much food production relies on animals, eg fertiliser.
@@hairyairey Almond milk is the WORST. I used to use it thinking it was healthier, more humane, and more earth friendly... then I found out it takes 1-3 gallons of water just to grow ONE ALMOND!! Oat milk is the way to go- tasty, healthy, and the most sustainable choice. I truly believe EVERYONE can make small tweaks that add up to a big difference, vegan or not.
I run on Mull for the annual 10K road race every July - just a short ferry hop from home for me :)
Mull is stunning, hoping to go there this year. What a cool event with the education, ethos and the scenery. Great stuff Anna.
Wow! What a wonderful experience.
Much food for thought... to Mull over, even.
11 marathons, before you know it 25...
Thank you so much for taking the time to tell this story, Anna!
Sometimes we need to go to places like this to remember what we are... It's not something you think, more something that you feel if you are willing to and running in those places just amplifies it for me. It's not easy to come out of our routines because it takes effort and sometimes it means admitting that you did something wrong or not good enough until that point. It can be overwhelming but we don't need to change everything about our lives, some changes here and there can make a great difference. As you say many little changes from many people turn in a big change for the best of all of us and the best for all of us shouldn't have a political colour. Thank you once again for sharing this message!
Great message ty
Go Anna 😊🤗!! Sounds like a really lovely trip :)
Ran many marathons now, as a plant exclusive runner - glad we've finally started to see a mention of plant fuelled running on the channel 👌
I maybe wouldn't have gotten drawn into any comments about veganism here - the subject is polarised enough with people as it is, for better or worse. But we runners can do well on plant foods - living proof here...!
Environment awareness is also cool, and no, don't think was generally preachy here.
Looking up that Green Runners reference too 👍👐
If an Uber athlete like Lewis Hamilton can be the greatest in his sport (which is nearly impossibly demanding) and is vegan then everyone in every sport could imo.
@@simpedros4766 except some people cannot survive on a vegan diet. They can't get enough nutrients from it. And we won't mention how much water is used to make soya milk.
@@hairyairey you have got confused with almond milk there mate which hardly any vegan drinks. Soya and oat uses less water than cow milk in its production. And everyone can get the nutrients because the milks are fortified for that exact reason.
Beautiful thanks for sharing
Less about running, more about sustainability. 👍🏻
Best video on trc xx more of this please xxx
Am I the only one that finds these new thumbnails a bit creepy? Just the strange filter.
very interesting event! ... and by the way....I started my vegan journey 1,5 yeas ago mainly to reduce my personal footprint .... never regretted the decision 😃
Brilliant,well done 👏👍🏼💥
Enjoy this soooo much. Odd a Cow vs Puppy change.
Great video. Important message. No idea why anyone would feel "preached to" on the basis of a one-off video in the midst of several dozen that have no climate message whatsoever.
A great video and a must do 💪👌
Thanks Frank! has the marathon made your list?
@@runningchannel booked the Manchester marathon for next year and so looking forward to it. But would like to do more trail running but it's knowing where to look for them. Decent ones that is, I must say your videos gives me drive so thank you 😀👌
Beautiful!!!
Is it the video editing or Anna's awesomeness which makes a trail marathon look fun and easy? 😁
Oh yeah...... really really easy 😅
My first (and so far only) marathon was a trail marathon, and it was the most fun running I've ever had! Though not quite as gorgeous as this one!
I really HAVE to do a trail marathon in northern Scotland now!
Some serious green washing going on in this video. The Running Channel do this ONE video talking about travelling by train, eating less meat, not buying so much gear... but all the other videos involve flying to New York, Boston, Germany and loads of other places. There's lots of videos recommending new gear, there's never anything about second hand or borrowing.
Thank you for your feedback Sonia, we appreciate this video is not for everyone. Hopefully you'll enjoy our upcoming videos more 🙂
Anna you inspire me!
Really surprised by some of the comments, surely if this one doesn't tick the box, scroll on - I am not a fan of a couple of topics on other vids but there are so many to choose from that it's not a problem x quite nice for us trail type eco friendly peeps to have a very very rare 'yayy' vid plus who doesn't love a bagpiper during a race 😂
Being plant based does not have to be all or nothing. The more you fill your plate with veggies the better.
Meat free Mondays in my house are a thing now 🙌
“this got us thinking… if you could go for a run anywhere in the world, where would you go? 🤔”
Ireland!
Lovely content, I’m going to search for more impact-minded races near me.
Maybe one piece of constructive criticism though. The thumbnail styles on this and the 20k car-chase almost fall into the uncanny valley territory. I wonder if there are better filters. Take it for what it is and thanks for the content! Cheers!
Can I ask where the bag is from that Anna used for the run please??
Great video, something a little different from you guys. I liked it!
Please reconsider these thumbnails though! Not sure who is green lighting them. They don't do the lovely Anna and Sarah (in the last video thumbnail) justice!
Hi, thanks for the great feedback! We are taking your thoughts on thumbnails on board and will dial back on the filter going forward 🙂
These should be regular events all over the world. How wonderful, inspiring and educational. As a vegan runner I am glad you took something away from this Anna and hopefully many others did as well. 😊
More!
I’ve just ran my first half marathon over the weekend and my big toenails are killing me! I’m hobbling around like an old woman. Does anyone know how to avoid this for next time?
When’s the result of the 8 week program coming out
Want to try a 'normal' marathon that is EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL then try the Langdale marathon (Brathay Challenges), or for a half marathon try the Snowdonia half marathon (Run Wales), though be awhere of the 1:7 hill at mile 11!!!!! thats no joke!. And I would say the Snowdonia Trail Marathon is easily an equal to this, if not more beautiful!!! Any ideas??? Well done Anna 'the planner'.
A lot of these suggested changes are appealing on the surface level, but leave out a lot of critical context. Corporations are damaging the environment far more than individuals, and holding companies accountable for emissions and waste will do immeasurably more than individuals ever could for the environment. Additionally, while a plant-based diet does have many benefits, an overwhelming number of plant-based options available to people include ingredients like quinoa or palm oil, which have massive negative impacts both on the environment and on the lives of the people living where they are harvested. The horrible cherry on top is that the attitudes surrounding these changes are often very classist and look down on people who live in food deserts, who have no access to the types of healthy and/or plant-based foods in stores that are taken for granted in the places where most of the rather privileged people promoting these lifestyle changes live.
This is not to say that people shouldn't make those changes if they wish, but they should be aware that these changes are minute in the grand scheme of things that "have a negative/positive impact on the environment" and those looking to make more meaningful change should create community networks and advocate for larger, more lasting changes.
What’s happened to Sarah & Alice faster 5k in 8 weeks challenge?
Love from THE GREAT INDIA ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
Great video, Trees not Tees and Future Forest Company are doing great work!
Feedback for TRC, the new thumbnail styles are really poor. They look terrible and don’t match at all with the high quality of your videos.
They really are doing brilliant work! Thanks for the great feedback Jamie 😀
Did you donate your shoes to the Lady who had pledged 'not to buy any gear for a year'?
Good video. Great values. One point though: it's entirely possible for everyone to be Vegan.
Possible but not realistic. Being vegan does take a bit more work, planning, and prep, even die hard vegans agree with that. My parents were healthy vegans for over 10 years, preparing delicious meals I loved going over for! As they got older, they simply couldn't handle the extra time and effort. They started replacing plates full of a fresh variety for frozen substitutes, and cut back on the variety all together, and started getting unusual health ailments. They're now both type 1.5 diabetics, unusual to say the least. They've started adding small amounts of animal proteins back to their diet, while staying mainly veggie based, and are doing much better.
The best way to sway opinion is recommending small changes first, let them see the difference in their health and life, and they'll be motivated to carry it as far as they can/ want to. I watched my step father alienate many people curious about veggie-based diets by preaching about veganism with a fierce all or nothing attitude.
@ 4:31 Ola Titoooo
Them bagpipes tho.
Got to love some bagpipes
I say we can all be vegan! For the planet, the animals and our health! Try it!
Hold on: Travelling to run for a marathon? The simplest is of course to not go.
Sure, we could sit in our homes, sew our own clothes, eschew all modern conveniences and experiences... this video is about actually LIVING a modern life with some environmentally friendly tweaks.
@@Kelly_Ben Hold on, there is a difference between going for a run or competing in a race in you own town (I hear London organizes a rather nice marathon each year?) and taking a 1000 km trip for a race with only a handful of participants and which can be done partly walking, partly filming and partly running.
If you are serious about climate change etc, you cannot go on trips like that.
hi
Hi!
Yes, let's monocrop the planet with GMO, pesticide laden sterile wastelands. How much of the land on Mull is used for cattle?

go vegan.....
I love the Running Channel and in particular I love Anna - this video though is not for me as it reminded me too much of a school assembly. There’s enough middle class angst on the BBC and although I’m sure everyone is sincere and well meaning not buying new kit for a year, for example, is a way of life for the majority of working class runners not something to virtue signal about. Anyway fair enough I can see a lot of folk enjoyed this focus but I visit the Running Channel for running content not to take the ‘Green Knee’. Just my opinion. 🎯
Hi J B, thanks for your feedback, it's always really appreciated 🙂 Completely understand that this particular video wasn't for you. Hopefully you'll enjoy our upcoming videos more 😃 What's your favourite video we've done so far?
I enjoy lots of them - from the challenges to the reviews. I particularly love the accessibility of the content - from the Parkruns that we can literally experience ourselves to the ultra marathons in exotic locations that we can vicariously experience with the presenters. Overall though I think the presenters - all of them - are the channels main asset. Good Arrows 🎯
“We interrupt normal programing to bring you a party political broadcast on behalf of the Green Party.”
Do you truly believe making small, smart changes to protect resources and use less of them is a political statement, instead of a common sense one? They're offering up simple changes that have scientifically proven impacts, that anyone can incorporate into their daily lives, to make a difference in air/ water quality, etc. That's not political, it should be common sense used by every human on the planet.
