Having rented several cars in Portugal, absolutely get all of the offered insurance. With narrow streets and tight spaces the chance of damage is high. I've had to fold in the mirrors just to drive down a narrow street it was so tight.
Used my Sapphire Reserve card and booked thru Chase Travel when I got my rental car for our trip to Portugal last year for double protection. Doesn't happen often but using the Chase portal was actually the cheapest option. Another big one is a TOLL PASS. Make sure you know where you want to go and how you are travelling to get there. If you want to travel any distance at a reasonable speed (for example Lisbon Porto or in the Algarve) you will want to use the toll highways and it will be far cheaper and easier if you go ahead and sign up for the toll pass with the rental company.
@@traveltidbitsrus whenever we travel internationally, we always get the premium insurance from the car rental place. however, we did just get the Chase Sapphire card and wonder how the company is in regard to claims and easiness for reimbursements.
@@sfaznpinoy We have the Sapphire card too, but, we have never had to file a claim. So, I'm not sure how easy or difficult they are work with when you do have a claim.
I did not realize some companies offer only partial coverage. I would check to see what coverage your credit cards might have, or possibly use a different rental car company.

I rented a car for 6 days in the Algarve but they only offer the partial insurance. What do you think of that? I'll be in Portugal in 4 weeks
