    I spent about 18 months working at an Karting track (now a TeamSport) and I never once saw anyone flying out of their kart.
    The worst incidents we ever saw was someone breaking a leg and crying because the paramedics had to cut her jeans, someone broke their hand, but the most common was people being sick in the toilets afterwards because we had lack of air ventilation at the time (it got closed for a few weeks to fix it)

      I used to work at few of the Teamsport tracks. I once saw a kart drop 12 feet from the mezzanine level and land on the drivers head, someone else died at one of the tracks once, saw someone thrown out of a kart but their shoes were still stuck to the peddles, saw many broken arms and legs and saw some kids long hair get caught on the rear axle and get scalped. Once saw a manager accidently lock customers in the building too lol.
      Those were the days.

      I broke my upper arm without even crashing in an electric kart. I was wrestling with the steering wheel in an hairpin while the back of the kart was drifting out. When it snapped back to straight line when I stepped on the throttle at the end of the corner, the steering wheel somehow broke my arm. Still don’t completely understand how that could cause it. Tried to look up similar cases online but I got no clue. My radial nerve got damaged in my arm and my wrist and fingers were paralysed for half year, I’m doing fine now and everything is same as old. That was my first time karting, was always a bit afraid of it but I really like racing and F1, don’t know what to think of it now. Not the best first experience

      There wasn't even a gap... he was way off the racing line based on the previous turn and the driver ahead was proceeding as expected. That close to the inside wall of the -hairpin- tight left-hander would only ever result in a dive/contact vs smartly backing off the throttle and biding time til another opportunity. • @EmmieGoesRacing
      @EmmieGoesRacing 7 месяцев назад +23

      It's because without a roll bar or crash structure it's more dangerous to have seatbelts. You're more likely be trapped under your kart without being able to escape or if you're in a high speed crash you'd have all the forces transfer to your body instead of being ejected and negating the forces. Because of this seatbelt are only used in slow rental karts with a tall roll hoops.

    First of all I hope the driver is okay. Beyond that the move is not there, the opportunity is not real. In karting there’s no mirrors so you can not rely on the driver in front that he’s seen you. Also at the turning point he was even alongside and had no right to try the move. I don't like those barriers made of tyres with a rubber belt covering them. Sometimes you can just "touch" the rubber and it grabs the kart and pulls it into the barrier, stopping it almost instantly. This isn't professional kart racing, and errors are to be expected. The barrier should be designed NOT to break your neck!

    Lotta comments from armchair experts about how #8 should never have gone for the move. And whilst they're correct, here's the thing: They're rental karts. The people who rent them aren't exactly Lewis Hamilton. More Jeremy Clarkson. The last time I went to TeamSport was in Nottingham as part of a Stag Do.
    There also isn't a professional racing driver alive or dead who hasn't made stupid moves on-track in their careers. It's how people learn. Especially if they get Shadow Realm'd in the process like #8 did.
    Hopefully he's okay. He'll have felt that one in the morning for sure.

    I had a much worse crash at the outside track at Lakeside in the summer. Some complete moron pulled out from the side while I flying down the straight at around 50mph (this is despite seeing us bearing down). No time to react, flew head over heels out my my kart, over their kart, and ended up rolling on the track, with karts flying around me. Instant red light, and I kid you not, every Marshal on the track ran over. The one who came over to me looked more terrified than I did. Very lucky escape. Tweaked my knee slightly and bruised my hip. Carried on after that but couldn't recover pole and ended up 3rd.

    Safe to the point of boring. Real kart racing is anything up to 150mph and similar to a bike in term of protection. When you’re racing safely is the last thing you’re thinking about.

    @adamkhan7736 4 месяца назад +1

    When you look at again a few times it's not a clear case. There actually was a gap. The front driver knowingly or not closed the door on him very quickly. The driver was correct to go for the pass but should have backed out. Easier said than done. In racing you can't hold back all the time or it'll become a habit.

    I still remember the crash I had while go-karting 4 years ago, as I was approaching a corner someone had already span out so I pressed the brake peddle to slow down ( and to avoid both the member of staff and the guy who span out ) as I pressed the brake peddle the go-kart didn't slow down and I tried to steer out of the way but the back end stepped out so I yelled "GET OUT OFF THE!" and I slammed side on to the go kart and I had to go to hospital as I was badly injured ( and before any of you blame me for the accident I wasn't at fault as I had a go kart with faulty brakes which led to the accident and I broke 6 ribs on one side )
