    Merry and Pippin were laid in the middle of Fangorn by the Lord of the Ents, who shepherds and speaks for the entire forest. Like Gandalf said, they're perfectly safe.

      "Fangorn" in Elvish means "beard (of) tree." So Treebeard IS Fangorn.

    The "charm" Treebeard says to the tree that trapped Marry and Pippin, was originaly said by Tom Bombadil, who even has the strength to withstand the Power of the ring

    the lore of the valar/gods in LOTR is so interesting, after finishing the series I would suggest watching a video explaining how it works with the 5 wizards (basically angels) and the story of them being sent just for your own knowledge.

    Enjoying your reactions! In most of Tolkien's story, Peter Jackson & Co. have drastically speeded up the time-line to make a more enjoyable movie experience, but this is one place where the action in the book moves faster than the movie. I particularly liked Theodred's funeral, which the book glossed over. The song Eowyn sings, and the words Aragorn speaks to Brego the horse, are in Old English, or Anglo-Saxon. In the book, the Rohirrim speak their own language, which Tolkien represented as Old English, although their leaders, such as Theoden and Eomer, can also speak the Westron, or Common Tongue. It would be too confusing in a movie to make the distinction, and the screenwriters wisely chose not to. Many reactors object to Aragorn staying Theoden from killing Grima Wormtongue. It is something of a plot hole, and bad things come of it in the movie. In the book Grima is given a horse, and will be judged by his actions, whether to ride with the King into battle and prove his loyalty, or else to go whither he would, "But then, if ever we meet again, I shall not be merciful." In the book, Grima arrives at Isengard too late to influence the battle. Much of the subsequent action, including the Rohirrim's trek to Helm's Deep, is not in Tolkien's story.

    I read a theory once that when Gandalf initially came to middle earth as grey wizard, he was sent by Manwe (I think it was) but when he died fighting the Balrog and was sent back, that was done so by Eru Illuvitar (God) himself and was empowered by him as well, which is why he was SOO much more powerful...even leagues above Sauruman at that point.

    • @MontgomeryWenis
      @MontgomeryWenis 3 месяца назад

      This is moronic. There is nothing theoretical about Gandalf's life. Everything is already written. He was sent back by the Valar to finish his task, like he says. Middle Earth was out of balance because of Saruman's betrayal, so Gandalf replaced him as the White Wizard so that Middle Earth could know balance once more. Because Gandalf was successful in the destruction of Sauron, the world no longer needed him or the elves, who sailed off into the Grey Havens. Gandalf was more powerful than Saruman because he didn't fall to the corruption of Sauron. That's all.

      @@MontgomeryWenis Have you read the Simillarion? Or the book where Gandalf states what happens when he is sent back?

    • @ThreeElves
      @ThreeElves 3 месяца назад

      @@MontgomeryWenis Nothing moronic about it.
      Tolkien pretty much states, that Gandalf was sent back by a higher authority than the Valar in one of his letters (Letter 156, if you want to read up on it), where he even clearly alludes to the fact, that the Valar only act within time and creation (read: the material world, that was created by the Music of the Ainur), and that Gandalf has passed out of space and time, basically saying he went most probably to the Timeless Halls, the place where Eru resides, and the Ainur, that did not join the Valar when they entered Arda.

    By the way, the boredom Merry and Pippin exhibit while being carried by Treebeard in the forest is perhaps an acknowledgement by Peter Jackson of the boredom many readers of the books had when they turned a page and saw that Tolkien had put in yet another of the various poems he had written. "Oh, no. Not another one!"

      @AngelusBrady 3 месяца назад +2

      @@lionhead123 As someone who created his own world and gave basically everything a background, I'm skeptical that he wouldn't have made a distinction. Wyverns may be a distinct form of dragons, but in the end, they're still dragons. And after a bit of digging here's a description Tolkien had of fell beasts: "it was a winged creature: if bird, then greater than all other birds, and it was naked, and neither quill nor feather did it bear, and its vast pinions were as webs of hide between horned fingers; and it stank. A creature of an older world maybe it was" There's also references of them being a beaked creature along with being nicknamed "hell-hawks". Not very dragon-like.
