The battle on Hoth is a bit pathetic ... when none of the blasters of the defenders ever do anything to the walkers ... but a blast to the "neck" of the walker explodes it as if it was filled with petrol and explosives. This has been annoying with Hollywood special effects ... EVERYTHING explodes ... even if it is filled with ENERGY WEAPONS and non-combustibles ... AND it is a clear petrol "bomb". There is a better way to show that battle ... but you'd have to use logic and fight-planning to do it.

I never understand why people say this one is the best, because it doesnt work alone. A New Hope does ... and it is a great movie. Empire is a great movie, BUT it is obviously referring to "what has come before" AND requires watching "what comes after it". There is also the fact that the heroes are split into two very separate teams with Luke learning from Yoda and the "Falcon crew" trying to fix the rustbucket and escape.
@@Muck006 A New Hope is my personal favourite also. But I can see why a lot of people have this as their favourite within the context of an overall story though. It doesn't work a standalone movie I agree.
“How does he understand him?” Legend has it that the Wookie language is mostly vowels. Han is the stuff of Legends! Han SOLO is reportedly an orphan that was adopted and raised by a Wookie. The Wookie was a female member of a crew that worked for a smuggler.
✨Monica - try to be patient - anger leads to the dark side. Search your feelings 😁😉. . . You’re not supposed to understand everything. Even Luke does not understand everything at this point.
Millions of 3 to 10 year olds have seen the Star Wars movies and understood them pretty well. Now I'm not besmirching anyone's intelligence, but if a pre adolescent can grasp it, what does that say about someone who can't?
As an 11 yo seeing that final hand scene I was really impressed. At a Hollywoods Studio tour I asked why those ideas weren’t being developed in medicine. I still remember the tour guide laughing at me. Glad someone else was impressed like me even if we know it’s fake!
I love pointing out to young reactors that the Kenner toy of the Tauntaun had a slit in its belly so you could put your Luke Skywalker action figure inside.
That scene with the ice bear (called a Wampa) that attacked Luke was added at the last minute as a work-around that Mark Hamill was in a car accident and wound up with scares on his face
Star wars means so much to me. I've loved it since I was a kid and it'll never go away. The original trilogy are some of the most influential movies ever. Just movie magic at it's finest. And till this day, darth Vader is still the best villian in cinematic history. At least for my money anyway
Dunno if you guys noticed the reference in Captain America Civil War, when Spiderman suggests how to deal with Antman based on that "old movie"... Well, this is it AT-AT walkers.
Great reaction you two! 😊 RIP always to Carrie Fisher(Princess Leia)!!! This movie is my top favorite of the "Star Wars" movies, and in my top three all-time favorite movie sequels. Fun Fact #1: Mark Hamill was in a car accident before filming had started. And the Wampa(snow yeti) attack at the beginning of the movie was written in to explain the scars on his face. I always felt that Leia kissed Luke just to get a reaction from Han. And it did! Han and Leia's kiss on the Falcon is one of my all-time favorite "Star Wars" moments. And here we're introduced to two of my favorite characters: Lando Calrissian and Yoda. Love Billy Dee Williams as Lando. And Yoda is the freaking best! Fun Fact #2: Han's "I know" line was improvised by Harrison Ford during the carbonite scene. He's original line was supposed to have been "I love you too". But Harrison Ford thought it wasn't a Han Solo thing to say. So he changed it. And Han and Leia's "I love you" "I know" exchange became one of the most memorable moments. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
How is it a "great" reaction? I'm thoroughly confused by the fact that she's so confused - this whole story is incredibly easy to follow if you're paying attention and have a modicum of imagination and intelligence. My feeling is she started out deciding not to like it and so isn't really watching/listening. The expression on her face says it all - it almost never changes, no matter what's happening on screen.
@@gibsongirl2100 I'm with you. She sat there with her arms crossed like a spoiled kid in church and her eyes half-closed as if she were stoned. NO reaction to anything, not even the Mynocks.
Love your reactions so far :) Keep up the good work! One thing I want to point out is how Vader's mastery of the Force is overlooked (besides him choking Ozzel through a viewscreen). When Luke has the vision about Leia and Han's misfortunes on Bespin, it is the Future he sees. When he's about to leave Dagobah, Obi-Wan points out that he's walking into a trap: "It is you and your abilities the Emperor wants. That's why your friends are made to suffer." This means Vader knows enough about the Force to purposefully make Han and Leia suffer - including torturing Han - in the Future specifically to cause Luke to have visions in the Past and draw him out to him. He also knew that Luke would be able to find his way to him with the Force without having a clue where Han and Leia ended up at. What this also tells us is that the Force transcends time and space and Vader is well aware of that fact. So Vader is not just a brutal enforcer and right hand to the Emperor. He is a master of the Force in his own right.
Not a great reaction when she just sits there, arms folded, looking bored. Feel sorry for Rico because her behaviour will ruin most of his future reactions if he continues to react alongside her. And you only get one shot at movies like this.
When this movie was originally released in 1981, I remember seeing the item on the six o'clock news as the distribution prints arrived in the UK from the USA and were escorted by security from London Heathrow to the distributors.
Wow, between predicting the keeping Luke warm and snow walkers looking like elephants you're getting so much right. The walker's motion was modeled after elephants
Luke’s Jedi training felt similar to my martial arts training in the beginning. I used to think “He wants the impossible!” many times when learning a difficult kick or form. Now that I’ve been in the master instructor role for a while, I have been known to reference Yoda quite a bit with “Unlearn what you have learned!” as well as the famous “Do or do not!” line. Most of the students get it, and appreciate their instructor has a soft spot for those movies.
54:09 - She's confused and doesn't get it? These films were made for kids! It's not Greek Tragedy, it is even has a simple colour code, red glowy sticks = bad 👿, blue glowy sticks = good.😇
1:43 so Han understands the wookie language just as Chewie understands basic (which is the basic form of universal language that is accepred across the galaxy). Now Han Solo may not speak Shyriiwook (Wookie language) but he understands it. Chewbacca is the same.
And that is WHY you should always watch the OT first. Because if you watch the prequels first it will kill this big revelation and the next one in the next movie. Cause the surprises didn't end here.
"How does he ( Han ) understand him ( Chewie )?" Han learned the language, that's all. I mean yeah, every Wookie sound is like a random noise instead of something distinct, but that's how it is.
41:53 Han has been professing love for Leia since the beginning of the movie. Go back and look at his body language around her since they got to Cloud City. Walking arm in arm. Him kissing her on the forehead. Heck look at hers toward him. He loves her and has known she loves him for a while.
I can legit see Millie Bobbi Brown playing this Leia. And about the ending: welcome to 1980. Just be glad you don’t have to wait 3 years for the next movie.
Man love watching people seeing the source to many pop culture references. Its like that meme with Leonardo DiCaprio pointing and saying "he did the thing"🤣🤣
The reason for the "I love you, I know." Exchange is because the actor was uncertain about his contract for the next film. So they made the love story open-ended. If he doesn't sign, then Han Solo is Carbon Frozen forever. If he did, then their love story can be written to continue somehow.
This is where the fun begins!!!! Empire Strikes Back is my favorite Star Wars movie of all time! My favorite movie all together! The story, the action, reveals, the stakes etc. Curious to hear you two's thoughts!! 🙏🏽💪
Definitely watch episodes 1,2, & 3 next if you guys like! It is the backstory of Vader before he became Vader, after that finish off with episode 6 "Return of the Jedi." This is called the "machete order" which maximizes the emotional punch of the entire series! Loved the reaction and how genuinely confused you guys are. Keep with it! It will make sense eventually :)
@@DarthBreezus Yes! Machete order is great for new watchers. Release order is outdated. Not only does Machete tell a great story, but they can even add in Obi-Wan, Solo and Rogue One (even Andor) before finishing with RotJ. Then they can do Mandalorian, BoBF and the Sequel Trilogy.
@@DarthBreezus The big reveal in RotJ is just revealed earlier in RotS. It's not a spoiler. It's not like a character looks in the camera and spoils the moment. The scene reveals it, as if it's being revealed for the first time. Purists need to stop thinking that these reveals are spoilers. It makes perfect sense, and it's a shocking moment, and sometimes emotional, for a new viewer. Go watch some Machete order videos and see for yourself.
21:48 Once you realize who Vader is this conversation takes on a different meaning. Vader is actually working to keep Luke alive. The Emperor just wanted to eliminate Luke. It was Vader’s idea to try and turn Luke. Even though he is consumed with anger and hate he is still trying to look out for his son.
The concept of Darth Vader being Luke's father comes directly from classic mythology. That idea was given to George Lucas by a mythologist called Joseph Campbell.
49:29 The Force is as much about your thoughts as your feelings. Through feelings you can begin to sense your connections to other people and other living things. Especially the connections between family
Now you get the reference Spiderman uses in the airport battle in "Captain America: Civil War" when he wraps a cable around Ant-Mans legs when he is a giant, he said it was like "Empires..."
Han understands Chewy the same way an English person understands a French person or Hispanic person. The reason Yoda didn’t reveal himself immediately to Luke cause he was testing him to see if he could be trained. When they filmed the scene between Luke and Vader only Mark Hamill and Lucas knew that line. They had the actor playing the physical Vader said a completely different line.
Both scenes where Luke runs out of the Wampa's cave and where Obi-Wan first appears to Luke and tells him to find Yoda were shot about 15 feet outside of the hotel the cast and crew were using because of just how cold it actually was where they were shooting.

@@Muck006 A New Hope is my personal favourite also. But I can see why a lot of people have this as their favourite within the context of an overall story though. It doesn't work a standalone movie I agree.
It is far more about the Dark Side of the Force than ANH, and it has Boba Fett, more battles, more Vader
Han understands Chewbacca because he speaks Wookie.
Shri-wook, technically. /nerd
@@sandwiched Even more technically Shyriiwook
@@Zamrod Ahh, yes, my bad. * waves goodbye to nerd-cred *
It's like...not tear hard of a concept. It's almost like she just lacks imagination.
Really anticipating Monica's impression of certain creatures that'll appear in Return of the jedi.
People who talk about loving marvel but not caring for these movies smh, to each his own
Millions of 3 to 10 year olds have seen the Star Wars movies and understood them pretty well. Now I'm not besmirching anyone's intelligence, but if a pre adolescent can grasp it, what does that say about someone who can't?
Luke. So good and so pure that he would rather kill himself than give in to the dark side.
49:00 Classic! So satisfying 😌
As an 11 yo seeing that final hand scene I was really impressed. At a Hollywoods Studio tour I asked why those ideas weren’t being developed in medicine. I still remember the tour guide laughing at me. Glad someone else was impressed like me even if we know it’s fake!
and they are making serious steps in making that tech a reality!
I love pointing out to young reactors that the Kenner toy of the Tauntaun had a slit in its belly so you could put your Luke Skywalker action figure inside.
Lol
That scene with the ice bear (called a Wampa) that attacked Luke was added at the last minute as a work-around that Mark Hamill was in a car accident and wound up with scares on his face
How can she not understand it/ be confused. It's such a simple story. SMH
Exactly. Its not hard.
Only thing which could be confusing is the anakin skywalker identity, that could confuse anyone
9:37 the technician in the background stares into the camera like “right, don’t mess with the scary guy in the helmet. Got it.”
Star wars means so much to me. I've loved it since I was a kid and it'll never go away. The original trilogy are some of the most influential movies ever. Just movie magic at it's finest. And till this day, darth Vader is still the best villian in cinematic history. At least for my money anyway
over 5 million people in that cloud city......so Lando have to decide between sacrificing over five million people or his friend&co
I never thought to see a reaction from someone bored, just because it's my fav ep... Bro you better do them alone haha
Dunno if you guys noticed the reference in Captain America Civil War, when Spiderman suggests how to deal with Antman based on that "old movie"... Well, this is it AT-AT walkers.
Not only the greatest Star Wars movie, but one of the greatest movies ever.
Star Wars II, III and VI are better than V
I also think
Caravan of courage is better, but that’s just me
6 year old me understood everything that was happening in this movie...
IKR! I don't get why some people are so confused about a simple story like this.
You know what? I think she pretends to be confused. She went in with a negative mindset and acts accordingly. What a sad case.
Great reaction you two! 😊
RIP always to Carrie Fisher(Princess Leia)!!!
Han and Leia's kiss on the Falcon is probably the worst "Star Wars" moment
@Kephy_ you’re daft.
@gibsongirl2100 yup!
4:25 Luke has tracking beacon on his wrist gauntlet!! Captain Solo is trying to establish the signal using sensor
I mean...how are you confused? I saw this this in the theater as a kid and understood perfectly...🤔
Easily confused.
She's either pretending or she's not very bright
Love your reactions so far :) Keep up the good work!
One thing I want to point out is how Vader's mastery of the Force is overlooked (besides him choking Ozzel through a viewscreen). When Luke has the vision about Leia and Han's misfortunes on Bespin, it is the Future he sees. When he's about to leave Dagobah, Obi-Wan points out that he's walking into a trap:
"It is you and your abilities the Emperor wants. That's why your friends are made to suffer."
This means Vader knows enough about the Force to purposefully make Han and Leia suffer - including torturing Han - in the Future specifically to cause Luke to have visions in the Past and draw him out to him.
1:35 But you don't question why they're speaking English in a Galaxy Far Far Away! 👽
LOL Monica is NOT a fan. She looked disgusted through the whole movie.
Not a great reaction when she just sits there, arms folded, looking bored. Feel sorry for Rico because her behaviour will ruin most of his future reactions if he continues to react alongside her. And you only get one shot at movies like this.
@@gpreactions3194 There is no right or wrong way to react. They are not here to give anyone the reaction they want. Her reaction is her reaction.
Kids today just don't have the patience for non-flashy cinematics. Cheap thrills over substantive story.
@@cesarmedina7080 completely agreed!!
When this movie was originally released in 1981, I remember seeing the item on the six o'clock news as the distribution prints arrived in the UK from the USA and were escorted by security from London Heathrow to the distributors.
Why watch a movie with someone who doesn't like them?
Because it's a reaction video not a positive reaction video.
"You guys seen that old movie, Empire Strikes Back?" - Peter Parker in Captain America Civil War
54:09 - She's confused and doesn't get it? These films were made for kids! It's not Greek Tragedy, it is even has a simple colour code, red glowy sticks = bad 👿, blue glowy sticks = good.😇
Yeah, she doesn't understand anything 🙄. I got it in one viewing as a 12 yr old in the theater.
Han understands Chewie because he is multilingual. He speaks subtitles.
He just has a Babel fish ... tuned to Wookie.
@@Muck006 he also demonstrated his understanding of Huttese in A New Hope
Everything gets answered in Return of the Jedi.
You understand you just saw one of the best movies ever made right? top 50 easily in any pro/amateur list.
Of course they don't.
Monica was right Leaia was the other one Yoda was referring too
DO NOT, i repeat DO NOT do ‘machete’ order… some of the things that happen in Ep6 lose their impact if u watch prequels
I'm very confused by how confused you both are by the things that happened in this movie x.x
He looks at the torch like that as it reminds him of his lightsaber days ^-^
Monica seems like such an enthusiastic Star Wars fan... Perhaps she should just stick to chick flix.
If she thought this was confusing, oh boy when the prequels come around.
Monica is over complicating these movies.
"How does he ( Han ) understand him ( Chewie )?"
Han learned the language, that's all.
Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader its not another father.
It's great to see a reaction channel where the reactors (the girl) look like they'd rather be anywhere else than reacting to a movie.
I hope your saying this tongue in cheek.
"The Empire Strikes Back" is the BEST "Star Wars" movie and one of the GREATEST films of all time. Easily my favorite John Williams film score.
45:40 He shouldn’t be able to beat this guy to be fair… He killed someone in the other room!!
😂😂😂
The reason for the "I love you, I know." Exchange is because the actor was uncertain about his contract for the next film. So they made the love story open-ended. If he doesn't sign, then Han Solo is Carbon Frozen forever. If he did, then their love story can be written to continue somehow.
robot chicken made an amusing update on the hoth ice cave snowman (also known as a wampa).
NO!!!
@@MeanMrMustard1 no… what about the reveal in ROTJ which wont make sense at the end of ROTS.. stupidest thing in star wars along with The Last Jedi!!
@@MeanMrMustard1 going into it straight after empire its a bit of a WTF moment, in ROTJ its built up better…
21:48 Once you realize who Vader is this conversation takes on a different meaning. Vader is actually working to keep Luke alive.
The Emperor just wanted to eliminate Luke. It was Vader’s idea to try and turn Luke. Even though he is consumed with anger and hate he is still trying to look out for his son.
i wonder what their confusion with Vader being is his father is. Doesn't it actually make sense rather than confuse?
Rico! To answer your question of why Han can understand chewie its explained in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Very good and underrated film.
BEST MOVIE OF THE OT. 2nd best movie of all 9 Skywalker saga movies. Rogue one might be my favorite of any movie they’ve ever done
I have rarely seen people less interested
Guys stuff will make much more sense after you complete the trilogy I promise. It's supposed to keep you guessing and wanting to see more
Han understands Chewy the same way an English person understands a French person or Hispanic person. The reason Yoda didn’t reveal himself immediately to Luke cause he was testing him to see if he could be trained. When they filmed the scene between Luke and Vader only Mark Hamill and Lucas knew that line. They had the actor playing the physical Vader said a completely different line.
After you watch Return of the Jedi watch the prequels 1)THE PHANTOM MENACE then watch 2)ATTACK OF THE CLONES then watch 3)REVENGE OF THE SITH
All answers are in episodes 1-3.
Both scenes where Luke runs out of the Wampa's cave and where Obi-Wan first appears to Luke and tells him to find Yoda were shot about 15 feet outside of the hotel the cast and crew were using because of just how cold it actually was where they were shooting.
Yes!!! I’m so excited for this!
I've been looking forward to this❤️
