    If I'm not mistaken, that's a Polaris ICBM, which is the same one launched in The Iron Giant, so this unintentionally became an Iron Giant diorama!

  • @PropGuru702
    @PropGuru702 3 месяца назад +412

    Fun fact, if you heat your iron up to 400c, this is the magic temp for soldering enameled wire. It melts it right off and never have to scrape or fight with weakened solder joints

    • @raymondo162
      @raymondo162 3 месяца назад +13

      allow me to explain: enamelling changed a few decades ago - the old-skool stuff did need scraping. the current 'enamelling' on copper wires is some form of plastic coating, which can be removed with a hot soldering iron, as you point out.

    • @PropGuru702
      @PropGuru702 3 месяца назад +3

      @@raymondo162 I have actually done this on some vintage enameled wire from old electromagnetic coils and heat is still the answer. Can't be open flame, but a hot iron won't have any problems 👍🏻

    For anyone curious enough, that missile in real life is about 50 ft tall and wide enough to climb inside. So in scale, that missile would be about 100 feet in air.

  • @shawnpgorman
    @shawnpgorman 3 месяца назад +84

    For styrene models that you are going to light up, you can avoid having a glowing model by painting the inside with a good coating of metallic paint.

    I feel like there is supposed to be a fairing poping off at this point in a water launch. If memory serves a gas motor propels it through the water and then that assembly breaks away in the air. Also I hear current limiting resisters are good for led life.

    Here's something interesting about missiles:
    The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't.
    By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation.
