You don't hide things from the captain" and also, Auto played an old footage that was 700 years ago to the captain in order to convince him that its unsafe to go back home when its actually life-sustainable in the present. I don't think Auto was following his part here and it seemed personal so hence he is indeed a villain

I see a lot of hate towards Auto. But I'm gonna argue on his behalf. First, he was only following his command. A command which overruled all other previous orders, including all the captains. Second, he truly thought that staying in space is better for the humanity. When people go back to Earth, it won't be pleasant. Sure, Earth can sustain life, but the sheer amount of work needed to do that would be ridiculous. Not to mention time. Real farming isn't as easy as "plant seed and put some water." It needs a lot of complicated science to keep it going (there's a lot of dust storm in the future Earth, that will pretty much ruin the field instantly). And there's the fact that the plant only survived because it wasn't exposed to the harsh atmosphere, since it was kept in a refrigerator.

AUTO, as a robot, simply follows the orders as he is programmed to. The real villain is indeed the CEO, which shows the removal of responsibility that he tries to implement in the people. AUTO is just the method to acquire the goal.

Since Wall-E is a robot, he is a character that can never truly "die" because he can always be fixed. The excuse given about him is that because his AI developed a personality, and that was labeled as an anomaly in his programming, if that is lost along with his destruction, and not retained/backed-up, then technically the "person" that was Wall-E is lost. Clever way to get around the usual "robot characters don't die" cliché.
Can't believe a trash compactor like him had so much confidence. He tried to stop the thing as much as he could, with very low power and a fried GPU, sacrificing his own life for everyone else. He was a cool robot too. So sad to see him go.
(1:30): I LOVE how, out of all the people and robots, it's M-O who finds and alerts EVE of the plant. Really shows that he really did overcome his obsessive complusive programming and learned to care about his new friends other than their cleanliness.

Can't believe a trash compactor like him had so much confidence. He tried to stop the thing as much as he could, with very low power and a fried GPU, sacrificing his own life for everyone else. He was a cool robot too. So sad to see him go.
At least he struggled and succeeded.
