- Color Me Barbra was Barbra Streisand's second television special, broadcast on March 30, 1966 and is, naturally, filmed in color. The first sequence was shot at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with Streisand wandering among the masterworks and antiquities, even singing "Where or When" dressed as Nefertiti. Next she's among a circus of animals, singing "Try to remember" to the elephant or poking fun at herself by telling the anteater "We have so much in common." As with My Name Is Barbra, the final act is her just singing at a mike, with "Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home" and "It Had to Be You." Previously released as part of the five-disc Barbra Streisand: The Television Specials.

Barbra Streisand is just unbelievable. Where did such a talent like hers come from? There is no other voice like hers in the world! A natural wonder of the world! ❤❤❤❤
That's easy. She worked like hell. Look at her mouth when she sings. She gets all value out of every note, just like an opera singer.
She never took voice lessons. A natural talent.
Barbra gives a complete lesson in singing in this single performance. This is also the best ending to a television show I have ever seen & heard.
Mt grandmother was in audience to this day no one has impressed her as much.
God touched her throat and the rest is history! Definately a once in a lifetime voice that we were lucky enough to enjoy.

She really has it all. The voice, acting chops, directing , everything.
This was the template for the next 30 or 40 years...the unique phrasing, the incomparable volume (which gained as she went on, like a 500 horsepower car opening up), the ability to make time stand still when she sang...a one in a trillion talent.

I was fourteen. My Mom loved Barbra, had all her albums. When she was on TV, it was a major event at our house.

For someone with a catalog as enormous as Streisand's, so much of it brilliant and unforgettable, this is still the song and the performance that I return to for the thrill of it, frequently, so many years later. It is hard to believe she is now 80; I've had the blessed opportunity to see her live 3 times in my life and her body of work is a gift for the ages.

One of the best vocals I have ever heard-and I mean ever.
The control and clear as a bell diction even on the powerful long notes, brilliant. No one else has it nor ever will. I wish she could go on & on for ever.

I remember being so upset when Back in the day I could only find the studio album songs of CMB and not the Television Special versions
This is superb, but she outdoes herself with this one even more on the 1972 Live Concert at the Forum. Insane vocals.
I agree that this is incomparable, but so is the recorded version.

My love affair with Barbra started in the seventies when i saw A Star Is Born. I came away thinking i just saw the greatest singer in the world...my opinion hasn't wavered one little bit since then. Lucky enough to see her live in London twice...two magic nights I will never forget.

Oh the overwhelming greatness is just breathtaking. I’m so happy that I was around while she was in her prime and that her incredible voice has been recorded for generations to come. I’m still waiting for another talent like hers but I don’t think one will come anytime soon.

When this hour-long television special came to an end people all across the country knew they had just witnessed the beginning of a meteoric superstar career. Just 23 years old, one month short of her 24th birthday Barbra created a nationwide sensation. 28 years later, "The Concert" would play to sell-out houses, starting on New Year's Eve 1993 in Las Vegas and ending in Anaheim, California in July 1994.

One of the finest vocals by Barbra I have ever heard! I was only familiar with the version on her Concert At The Forum album but since I've seen this video I've watched other performances of this song and she is just absolutely incredible and it's too bad this wasn't a single. Thank you so much for posting this - and I've enjoyed so many of your other Barbra videos too! (BTW, you may have missed there's a typo in the title of this video! :) )

I somewhat agree. I don't hate applause, but I wish the audience were respectful enough to wait. However, we are all human and Barbra is the greatest singer in our life time, so I can understand the loss of decorum, in a situation such as this.
Different Streisand biographers have written about the taping of this special, revealing that it was 2am and Barbra was not happy with her performance and they cleared out the audience. She then re-did all the songs and they edited in the audience reaction back in. That's why there is no interaction between she and them.

That’s an opinion. You prefer Streisand over the others. Additionally, they aren’t in the same league, you’re right. They are all so exceptional that they divulged their own path. Which has placed them in a league all their own.
@David Westphal I totally agree with you. Streisand’s phrasing, clarity, control and purity of every note she sings are without equal. Streisand uses her superlative instrument in service ti the song, while today’s vocalists use a song as a means to show off their voice. Today’s singers are under the delusion that louder is better and so it is like a competition to see who can be the loudest. In contrast, Barbra singing this song is a complete singing lesson from a - z. She does things with her voice that nobody can do.
... and egos aside, all three of those gifted vocalists would agree.
